Ray97:
A Bank Verification Number (BVN) search may have exposed more accounts linked to the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen.

Detectives are understood to have written three banks for details of the alleged accounts of the suspended CJN.

The banks are Standard Chartered Bank, Union Bank and Heritage Bank, according to a preliminary report on the activities of Onnoghen by the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) and other agencies.

The CJN is accused of false declaration of assets. A six-count charge has been filed against him.

Further investigation into Onnoghen’s accounts notwithstanding, the United States of America, the United Kingdom and the European Commission (EU) yesterday urged caution on the part of the federal government in its handling of his case.

The US called for due process to be followed in the matter while UK faulted the timing of the suspension.

Sources knowledgeable about the investigation of Onnoghen’s finances revealed to The Nation yesterday the turn-over in the alleged accounts of the CJN as follows:

USD account from October, 2012 to September, 2016 — $1,922,657.00
GBP (£) account from 2012 to September, 2016 — £138, 439.00
Euro account as at September 30, 2016 — €55,154.00
Naira account from September, 2005 to October, 2016 — N91, 962.362.49
A document sighted by The Nation correspondent states: “Upon receipt of the report, a preliminary investigation was conducted during which the following actions were carried out:

“A request was sent to the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) for a report on the suspect.

“A letter of investigation activities was sent to Standard Chartered Bank, Union Bank and Heritage Bank to provide the statements of accounts of the suspect;

“A BVN search through the NIBSS platform was conducted on the suspect and six (6) more accounts were found to be linked or connected to the suspect;

“The statements of accounts of the suspect were analyzed and further to that, a letter was written to Standard Chartered Bank requesting for additional information on suspicious activities in the account.”

There was anxiety yesterday over alleged restriction on the movement of Justice Onnoghen.

Security was tightened at the official quarters of the Justices of the Supreme Court.

Journalists were turned back from gaining access to the quarters in the three arms zone.

A reliable security source said: “Yes, the security around the quarters was enhanced but I doubt your insinuation of restriction of movement of the CJN.

“With the tension generated by the suspension of the CJN, security agencies are only taking pre-emptive action to prevent the judges from harm.”

There were also strong indications last night the battle over Onnoghen’s fate would shift to the court tomorrow.

A counsel in the defence team of the CJN said: “We will go to court to challenge the illegal suspension of His Lordship.

“We hope the Federal Government will respect any court order reinstating the CJN. Anything otherwise is a judicial anarchy.”

He is the chief Justice of Nigeria. He is saving his money. Some lawyers and SAN may even have more money.

Is FG fighting him doe being corrupt or for having various bank accounts?

Now that you have helped him to declare his assets online to the world. Do the heedful.

People never really understood Buhari from the onset, he’d always maintain that abacha isn’t corrupt, meaning he didn’t steal, but took money from the government cause its his birthright as a Fulani army general, you expect someone that served under abacha to add anything meaningful to the lives of Nigerian, someone that didn’t bother to improve himself. History will never be kind to Obama, Kerry and Hilary for forcing Buhari on Nigerians.

No matter the amount of propaganda/ media trial, nothing will justify this nonsensical display by the cabal and APC.

Almost everyone on social media voiced former Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun into resigning. Some even asked that the President remove her to prove that he's truly fighting corruption. When the brilliant woman saw that she truly erred by submitting a fake NYSC Exemption certificate, she did the honourable thing. She tendered her resignation letter and left. She RESIGNED!
By that time, those of you ethnic jingoists didn't see Kemi as a Southerner. You screamed at her, cyber bullied her and even hurled abuses at her. Now it is the turn of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, who admitted himself that he 'forgot' to declare his domiciliary accounts which was loaded with £23,409, €49,971 and $391,401, including 55 houses undeclared, and by so doing, he breached the Code of Conduct as a Public officer and was suppose to have resigned straightaway if he had any modicum of honour, integrity and shame as the custodian of the Nigerian Law, but he didn't. Instead, he was doing everything to stall his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal. All those times, you didn't call for his resignation the same way you did with Kemi, you didn't bully him to resign the way you bullied Kemi, you were instead urging him to stay on, you were drumming support for him and some of you that were deceiving yourselves with your forming neutrality didn't say anything all this while too, you deliberately turned dumb. When it was first revealed a fortnight ago that the Chief Justice of Nigeria didn't declare his domiciliary accounts with dollars starched in it, all you were vituperating was that the President wanted to remove him because he's a southerner. You acted dumb on the offence he committed. Now that the CJN has been suspended, those of you fake neutralists are now crying foul. You're screaming that democracy is in danger. Can y'all see how nonsensically hypocritical you are? Your hypocrisy is legendary. Your hypocrisy stinks. You shouted and bullied Kemi Adeosun into resignation but aiding Onnoghen who can't explain how he got the foreign currencies starched in his domiciliary accounts which he didn't declare plus 55 houses. A whooping 55 houses.
Instead of the CJN to resign honourably and go clear himself, he was busy running from pillar to post buying injunctions to stop the case against him. Just a couple of days ago, another $630,000 and $800,000 was discovered in his separate domiciliary accounts again. Y'all pretended you didn't see the news, abi? Sensing that he could be suspended by the NJC, the CJN quickly suspend their meeting indefinitely. Why? So that he can stay on. You can imagine!
You asked Kemi to resign but Onnoghen who was selling justice for dollars and deliberately didn't declare those dollars in his domiciliary accounts including 55 houses should stay on, and he should be left alone.
Arrant nonsense.

Re: Onnoghen: BVN Reveals More Accounts by TB27: 9:22am On Jan 27, 2019
Its really sad that in a desperate attempt to remove the man from the seat, politicians wld spare nothing & wld go to any length to achieve their goal.

First off, there's no $3million anywhere its all hogwash; its $519k and going by today's rate that's 189m+ and this money has been there way back 2011 when the dollar was barely 150 or even less so what are we saying. Next, you might ask how it got up to 519k, hes got investments in treasury bills and over the yrs liquated them plus his savings which hes been able to build up to save for his retirement ; he's been a supreme court justice since 2005, been on the supreme court bench in the Gambia for years, ( im sure most of you don't know that) represented the judiciary for years overseas and all this come with estacodes in dollars, for heavens sake last yr alone he went on trips countless times, don't know how much he got as estacode but know for certain that junior PAs get between 3 to 5k Dolz. The man decided to invest his money overseas and the proceeds are paid into hes account here in Nigeria, he's accounts officer is alive let them go check. Except its a crime to buy shares anywhere in the world then i don't know what crime hes committed cos he never hid it & he wldnt be so stupid to put money in he’s account he can’t defend.

Granted he did forget to declare the account in 2011 cos he believed the accounts were opened earlier and that his 2005-2009 asset declaration form captured it, realizing this when next he had to declare in 2016 he filled out two forms covering the period he omitted and then 2016-2020 covering the period till he retired , he's never hidden anything, going by CCB act, no crime there as he did admit to having missed a period and put it in writing since 2016, so you have to ask whats the issue here abinitio.

Then there's the pounds and euro account, 50k+ pounds and 40k euro, all his savings and that's how he prefers to save his money as they hold more value, so when he gets his emoluments he coverts and saves and hes been doing that for years, going by today's rate the total isn't even up to 50mil.and he didn't just start today, this has been there from way back. Then some millions not even up to 10m yet pple are ready to crucify him.

Heard also he hasn't spent from his salary in 18months, for Gods sake this isn't even an issue, what does he need to spend his salary on, he dsnt pay fees, dsnt feed himself, hes got a farm and he does eat from there and also the judiciary provides budget for the CJNs house that let me tell you he's the first to have lived there after a while, the past 4 or so CJN never stayed but Julius Berger had yearly facility management contracts, dead frogs had to be removed from the pool, ill leave the rest to your imagination what's been going on, he doesn't fuel his car, he uses official vehicles what exactly should he be spending on? please, let's be objective. Im sure even the president dsnt spend his salary on anything cos of his position.

Read he's got 55 houses, this is all a lie, but what i know there's 1 in maitama bought from the govt, it's in his forms even Tanko got the one in Garki, the one i know in Calabar is so old and he stays there when he visits but his kids refuse to stay its that bad, they grew up there and its what they still have, ill leave it there.

please i dont speak for him cos im not his mouthpiece but it's been difficult reading the lies peddled around, had to register just to say what i know.

This is all politics, the aim was to oust him before elections by tarnishing his image. They know they don’t have a case.
