How do you manage to use plastic mulch in this our weather?
Please let me know about mulching, will plant next week but I read somewhere that it's not suitable cos of the heat now.

The mulching usually retain water at the root of the plant. We have not had any issue with heat.

We have been using mulching for quite some time now for all of our crops.

Also I don't know if its actually waterlogged. I'll put up a picture

@jethro2 please what is the average number of bags to be expected from an acre of cucumber farm?

With our raised bed system we have been having 5 bags per bed.

An acre has 80 bed with our kind of measurements.

However several things need to be put into consideration
* Manure application
* Plant population at planting
* Water management
* Pest and disease control
* Staking and training
* Prunning etc

It's only when you get all this right that you can attain that average no of yield

Pointsett and marketer have low price just like they have low yield and longer days to maturity

Murano, tokyo, Greengo, monalisa are expensive just like they produce more when taken care of and they mature in shorter days.

Those are recommended for Lagos market

I will suggest you buy smaller samples of each to test. With that you can decide which best suit your area.

What work in Asaba might not work in Onitsha

I think greengo has the best resistance to downy mildew than any cucumber variety in Nigeria now,it will be forgiving if u don't apply fungicides properly,to me its best for a new rookie farmer.

Where and how can I get this plastic? And when is the right time to apply it, when the seeds germinate or before?

Good day Ma. Please, I'll like to know. For the Tokyo/greengo, will one have to face pollination problem, and have to resort to hand pollination?

New method of staking.

I want to believe this will be costlier, except you have a free source of bamboo.
