.............
See you tomorrow GABRIEL, Sophia's mum said as she entered the car and sat beside her husband. Alright ma, thanks for the visit, I said..

Let me find something for my son, Sophia's dad said as he dipped his hand in his small wallet always clutched under his armpit, he brought out five(5) clean hundred naira bills... I started blushing, that's the most important reason I always want us to have top visitors around, something has to drop, at all at all na im bad............ Huh, you don't have to bother, my mum called out and by the way it's too much. I didn't even bother about whatever she was saying as I stuffed my money in my jean pocket. Thank you very much sir, I said as I bent in appreciation, then I waved at Sophia as they drove out.... Guess what? She blew a kiss!!!

Don't close the gate yet, my dad said as he went inside hopefully to get his car's key. I'm even tired, I need to rest, my mum started, I don't have to go with you dear, do i? Well you don't have to if you don't feel like it, my dad said.....

Ah, it won't be good mum, I started protesting, you know those families hold us in highest regard, it won't make sense if they see dad and you are nowhere to be found, they might not show their level of disappointment, but trust me, they will be disappointed.....i made my case hoping for God to intervene and change her mind.

Huh, so you knew they are that important and you decided to stay back Abi? Monkey.... That's uncalled for, why would you be calling him monkey, i dont like it..my dad said as he unlocked his Mercedez.... You can't imagine how my heart leapt for joy as she said, bring my purse, It should be on the stool by the sofa...okay mum, but please drop the kitchen's key I beg you in the name of God, I said as I went to get the purs...... I came back to see them arguing.... For whatever reason, you shouldn't have locked the kitchen, why would you do that to your own son for Christ sake? Sometimes your actions bothers me alot, my dad kept on ranting as my mum just pretended like she wasn't listening to him...Get the keys on the fridge, she said as I handed her the purse...

After locking the gate, I went to confirm if the key was on the fridge as she said, I opened the fridge and brought out cold fruit juice and gulped it as I was starving at that moment, I was going to open the kitchen when I heard a massive knock coming from inside.... lol
You have to chill bro, I thought, i saved your sorry ass... I took a deep bite on my chicken as I proceeded to open the door.
He was right there at the door as I opened while Chioma sat down on the chair by my piano, trying to press the keyboard... This gal hasn't learnt her lesson I thought...
Obviously, they knew my parent have gone out, they must have been watching the proceeding through the closet window...

So you went to eat first instead of you to come get me out of here eh? He said frowning... I kept quiet as I stare at him in disbelieve... what an ingrate he is, this is why some people don't want to render help.... I thought silently.
Gab, I'll like you to teach me how to play piano, I don't mind paying for the service, Chioma said as she switched on the keyboard pressing the keys... No problem, I said as I walked to the bed and sat waiting for my uncle to take his babe out of my room...

C'mon let's go Chi, she stood reluctantly and followed him out of the room, bad gal I thought as I flung on the bed in full fledge thinking about my new found friend and trying to read meaning to the kiss she blew. I didn't realize all the while I've been smiling as I reminisce about our earlier conversation until my Uncle barged in with a can beer stuck in his hand and asked why I was smiling all by myself...lol
Anyway, I'm going out and won't come back until late evening, he said as he went out........

It was 5.30am Sunday morning, the bell was rung as usual, we all found our way to my mum's room for the usual morning devotion. She started by praises, then to hymn songs after which she then proceed to reading out the bible, she would then ask questions regarding what she had read.. All the while, my dad would be on the bed sleeping and unconcerned.
My mum is a deaconess in her church and also the children/teenager department's matron, so she always go to church early enough by 7.am, by which time we must have been ready too. Whoever wasn't ready by the time she drives out would definitely follow my uncle who drives my dad's car to church every Sunday, and he must be in church too latest by 7:40 am. That's always the arrangement while my dad stays back home sleeping.

After the church service, I was so in haste waiting for my mom to instruct my uncle to drive me down to Lekki, she was busy interacting, greeting all the church officials and whoever comes her way paying no attention to me, that was when the youth coordinator also came. Bro Gabriel, can you please proceed to teenager's chapel, we youths are having meeting there please, he said as he went into the church to inform some more youths.... youth meeting my foot, I said as I went to hide by the car outside, waiting for mum. Not long after, I saw mum and Mayor coming towards the car, we've been looking for you all along, so you've been here? Mayor said as they approached. All your mates are in that meeting, but I know things like that doesn't appeal to you, my mum said. Anyway, I've given the address to your uncle, behave yourself when you get there, tell them you are leaving by 4pm, their driver will come drop you off at home ok? Okay mum, thank you!

We were in Lekki by quarter past 1, we didn't have too much problem locating their house, it was a beautiful white duplex not far away from the estate gate. Without wasting time, Mayor started honking at the gate, it wasn't long when one short chubby Hausa man came outside the gate towards our car....
Oga na-go-de, who I dey find? He said as he bent talking to my uncle, we have appointment here, Mayor said... how does Mayor expect this man to know what appointment is I thought silently..... affointimenti? Wallahi, affointmenti no dey hia....... open the gate my friend, Mayor cuts him short, I knew the gateman won't open, so I came down from the vehicle and told him, we dey find Oga, trying to describe him with my hand, and then mentioned Sophia... and that was it... He laughed, Sopia dey Sopia dey he said as he went to open the gate.
Bloody bush man, Mayor said as he drove in, we were about alighting when two tall, big headed dogs appeared from nowhere barking.... wtf, I exclaimed. Sitting back in the car stiff, they were massive, a dark man appeared not long after and ordered them back into their cage, their gardener I guess... we stayed put in the car until we were sure he has secured them, then we hurriedly walked towards the main door!

.........I was at Mayor's side on the look out in case those beasts appear again so as to know where to run to, he rang the bell twice in quick succession, we were there for some seconds when a lady who wore apron appeared by the door, hello... She said with smile on her face, you must be Gabriel? I nodded as she made a hand gesture that we should step in as she closed the door. Do make yourself comfortable please, and what do you care to drink she asked as she lead us to the well furnished, queen styled decorated living room, I was in awe looking up and around fantasizing living in such opulent palace. I will like a cold beer if you don't mind, my uncle said... haba, beer in this kind of place? I thought to myself, just give me warm water, thanks. She went away, there was no one in sight but I could hear a faint sound coming from upstairs like that of television set. Uncle, why would you ask her for beer, it doesn't speak well of us, really? He asked... first impression matters alot you know I told him, well I don't have to impress anything on them, I will take my leave as soon as i greet them, their opinion of me doesn't matter, he countered. The lady appeared again with a tray containing a glass of water and two chilled canned Heineken, I saw a brief smile on Mayor's face, this guy sha, I thought.....

You will have to give me some few minutes so I can announce your presence ok? Alright, thank you ma, I said as she went up the stairs!

After like two minutes, I saw Sophia running down the stairs in a bum short and a short top revealing her navel, oh my god I said silently..as i looked at Mayor who was busy gulping his beer, stay strong he said in a low tone....

Look who we have here, she said as I stood to shake her, she ignored my arm as she gave me such an awesome hug, what a splendid smell oozing from her body.. how are you doing? I said in a cool tone, I'm good babe... She replied, this gal is hundred steps ahead of me in term of orientation as she knows what to say to make one feel comfortable... Meet my uncle, we call him Mayor, Mayor meet Sophia... I said.....i think say you no go introduce me before make I break your head, he said as he held out his hand to greet her, hello beautiful.....hi, Sophia said briefly as she shook him. You look breath taken, Mayor continued, she blushed as she said thank you... I was already uncomfortable as Mayor was leading her on, and i was getting jealous already.

What of your parent, Mayor asked, oh they are having their quiet time, that's their normal routine every Sunday after church service, they will come downstairs by 3pm... She said... I was elated knowing no one would interupt us except the auntie who opened the door.

Oh, Mayor said, then I will have to take my leave now, he said as downed the remaining content in the can as he clutched the other in his hand as he made way for the door, greet them for me ok? He said as he disappeared into the compound, he was barely out when he rushed in again, please are you sure your dogs are not on loose? Nah, they are always in their cage... always in their cage? Myself and Mayor exclaimed at the same time..... yea sure, she reiterated except in the night though she continued.....but they were loose as we drove into the compound, I said... that must have been a mistake on the part of our gardener...she said as she volunteered to follow Mayor into the compound to ensure his safety.

She came back not long after, so how are you handsome? She said as she sat close to me and flicked on the television set, I'm good... were you in church? She asked.... Yea ofcourse I said. We kept quiet for some seconds while she browsed through the channels.... So your auntie isn't observing her quiet time? I asked, who? She paused and looked in my direction, the lady who came to open the door... Oh, that's auntie Debby, she is our cook...oh, I said...... And by the way, are you hungry yet, she asked focussing on the channels, not at all, I said.... I couldn't bring myself to saying i was hungry despite dying of hunger inside.....
She dropped the remote as she looked in my direction, good to see you again Gabriel, she said as she smiled....her smile melts my heart sincerely...same here beautiful...i've already said those words before I realized what I said, did i just say that? I thought silently confused...
She saw through my confusion obviously... You are a shy type Gabriel, she said..... no, no, no I said protesting, I'm just a bit reserved, I'm not shy, I said as i tried redeeming my already battered image.
Oh, reserve indeed, how does your galfriend cope with all of these? She asked....the question caught me unaware and struck me like a thunder.......well, well...aahm he, sorry she understands I said stuttering... She smiled, you are funny Gabriel, you don't have to lie ok? We both know you don't have a girlfriend, and promise you are going to be free with me? She asked, alright I said embarrassed.

We chatted through freely laughing and giggling when we saw the parent descending the stairs, I quickly glanced at the wall clock and the time was 3:20pm... wtf, I haven't even eaten all along, and i have less than 40minutes to leave, I became sad all of a sudden.... Gabriel boy, hope you are not angry with us, her mum called out as she was coming towards me, she hugged me as she patted my head, we were just observing our quiet time like always, she said.. I made to prostrate for her dad when he pulled me up and held me by his side, Gab,Gab he said as we both walked towards his chair, I sat next to him, thanks for yesterday sir, God bless you, I said.... Oh, good boy!
Sophie, her mom called, have you entertained your husband? Mum, he only demanded for water, I will make sure he eats before he leaves though, she said... why haven't you eaten Gabriel? Have you eaten anything today? The mum asked, no ma, but I.. ...she cut me off as she instructed Sophia to inform auntie Debby to serve me immediately, omg, this woman bailed me out I thought.. the worms were already feasting on my lungs as they've been making crazy sounds all day... infact, never mind, I will go to the kitchen myself, Sophia's mum as she stood and went towards the kitchen, Sophia followed suit leaving myself and the dad in the living room... He asked me some few questions related to education and if i have the plans of coming to United States soon, that depends on my dad I said... ofcourse, I will talk to him he said.

Gabriel, come over please, her mom signalled to me as she arranged the dinning set alongside their cook, while Sophia was clutching a bottle of fruit wine in her hand with two cups obviously for both of us... it's good to be rich I thought quietly. It was a plate of jollof rice with salad in another different plate, then sliced egg & sliced fried beef in a small plate by the side, the fried turkey was in a different bowl staring at me.... I smiled as I saw all of these, how I wished i was in the corner of my room with all of it, I would have devoured it all with no apology no anyone, but here is a different ball game, I need to be civil....

The mum left both of us at the dinning as she went to meet at her husband at the living room, she kissed him as she sat beside him... Love is sweet ooo, but when money enter, love is sweeter (in Davido's voice). This should be the ideal home for every children, at that moment, I wondered if i have ever seen my parent pecked not to talk of kissing....i wonder how they gave birth to us even as they rarely display any form of affection towards each other in the open.

I love your parent, I said as I start devouring the food, oh don't mind them, they can be so clingy to each other... they intimidate me so many times, she said as she smiled. I like to have that kind of lifestyle when I get married, I said... She looked at me giggling, really? Why do you wish for that? She asked.... well, it's a personal decision, life is too short for one not to be happy, and do what makes one feel good, I concluded. You are right though, it's a matter of choice, one can decide to make life complicated or make it worthwhile..... She said. Sophie, please you will help me tell your mum I need to leave by 4pm ok? She quickly glanced at the wall clock frowning, why so soon? It was quarter to 4pm already.... You are not leaving by 4pm, she said protesting, Uncle Willy will drop you off at home, so you don't have to bother about public transport ok? She said..... how do i tell this gal my mum already told me to leave by 4pm I thought within myself, Sophie, left to me, I like to even sleep over, but....... good idea, you can sleep over, I will prepare a room for you, she said as she interrupted me. I sighed, okay I will leave by 5pm, it's one hour drive from Lekki to Maryland, atleast I will be home by 6pm, I said...

I thought you said you want to sleep, Pleeeeaaaaaase Gabriel? I will have my dad convince your parent to stay, she pleaded. I smiled at her desperation, you are so sweet Sophie, I said without thinking again, but this time i wasn't that shocked like the one I said earlier, is that your way of saying yes? She said as smiled broadly impressed with my openness I guess... Oh, not that, I need to be home to do somethings regarding my admission, I will be going to University of Lagos tomorrow, so I need to get some documents ready tonight, I lied.... okay if that's the case, no problem, she said. She handed the wine over to me to open it, she filled the two cups halfway as she ask me to make a toast, at this junction, I looked at the direction of her parent, her mum was looking in our direction smiling...i caught her dad looking away as soon as i looked at their direction, omg.... I haven't even made a toast before, where do I start from... I held my cup up as she lifted hers looking at me smiling. I cleared my throat, it's good knowing you, I started in a low tone, and i wished I've known you long before now, well, I wish we can build on this and be friends forever.....i said.... To being best of friends forever she said as we both clicked our cups, and drank...i gulped mine once to exert the anxiety that has built inside of me while she just sipped hers... I looked at the direction of the parents again, I saw the mum whispering something to the dad while he laughed... This is really intimidating I thought....

I made sure I dealt with the food, but not as I would have done if it were to be only me in my abode, but i still made sure I did justice to it, I touched everything on the table....
Let me show you my room, Sophie said as she came back from the kitchen where she took the plates, auntie Debbie followed suit to clean the rest. Your room? I said not sure if her parent will be cool with that idea, common she said as she held my hands towards the stairs, I followed like a sheep being lead to slaughter. We entered another living room as we reached upstairs, what a well furnished gold settings living room, another big television hung on the wall with flower vase by each side of it, then we turned to the left and walked down a small corridor and came to her door, she pushed open and I saw well arranged bedroom, with several teddy bears on her bed, a lamp was close to her bed side while her pictures was all over the wall, some which she took with some white folks in their cheerleading uniforms, and some with her parent and grand parents.
Did you design all these by yourself, I asked. I did most, she replied, my parents helped out too though. Quite a taste you have here Sophie, this room is worthy of a queen which you are. I dropped another line again, I think I'm discovering myself bit by bit I thought silently....
Oh thanks babe, I hope you will invite me to your room when next we visit? She asked... my room? I asked laughing.... there is nothing special about my room Sophie, you will be disappointed I said... I will like to see nevertheless she said as she walked towards me and we hugged each other without letting go for sometime before I made the first move to pull away, and it happened...... She pecked me!!!

..........
I got back home by 7:25pm, uncle Willie dropped me off as arranged, my mum wasn't furious as i've thought. As soon as i dropped the frozen turkey Sophia's mum gave me to deliver to my mum, I dashed to my room immediately to count the new notes Sophia's dad stuffed into my pocket, though I tried rejecting it but my effort didn't yield any result after he already gave me a package earlier in the evening which contained a gold wrist watch & a gold chain, and i haven't had time to count because of their driver's presence. Here is Mayor in my room practicing on the piano....

Bros how far, you haven't improved on those keys, it's getting worse each time I hear you practice, I said mocking him...It should be on note that I play keyboard for my mum's church whenever I'm in church....
What's in that nylon in your hand was the next thing he said ignoring my jab, and hope you no fall your hand with that girl? He asked... I think I've discovered myself, I said as I entered the rest room, locking the door behind me, brought out my new bills of 100 naira notes and counted 10, #1,000 for this little me, JESUS!!! God bless you sir I said silently smiling sheepishly like someone who is made for life.
As soon as i came out, I dropped 100 bill on the keyboard for Mayor, he paused immediately obviously excited, that man dropped cheese for you? Yeah he did drop cheese, I replied... How much did he give you? He asked..... This question is not necessary bro, what's important is that I gave you something substantial & you need to appreciate me for that...
For you to have given me this much Gab, that shows that man gave you up to #500 I can bet with my life.... I smiled silently, if this bros knew I had up to #900, he would want to bargain for more for sure. So I just ignored him for the rest of the evening till we were both called for dinner......

Wednesday morning, I was up early dressing up for a trip to University of Lagos, my dad dropped the bombshell the previous evening when he said his prof friend told him our result has been pasted, I was elated and at the same time scared of what the outcome would be. Not that I didn't write the exam well, just the anxiety that comes with fear of the unknown......

Mum you haven't even taken your bath? It's almost 8am and you know that place will be jam packed with loads of people, just give me transport fare, I will find my way there, I said as I was visibly disappointed for the fact that mum wasn't taking the whole thing serious. She was suppose to drop me there and leave for her supermarket while I join her there after I must have checked the result, that was the arrangement my dad had with us before he went to his office. And here is my mum still far from getting set.

Exercise little patient, i will be done before you know it, she said as she went to her room.
It was 8:55am when we drove through Unilag gate, it was a massive crowd by the time we made our way to the administrative crowd. You don't even know when you are going to leave this place today with this crowd i'm seeing here and I told you to eat before leaving the house ehn, well you are not a baby anymore, you can take care of yourself as those are your mates standing there, she said as she held out a #50 rumpled note. I took it as I carried my backpack and hurried out to join the long queue.

It was shocking after about an hour and I felt a hand on my shoulder, it was my mum... Mum, you are still around? I exclaimed. Yes, I parked not far away, i'm just a bit worried about this crowd, and the fact that you haven't eaten, she handed out a nylon of fish roll and coke, oh mum you know you are the best? I asked as I would have hugged her if not for the people staring at us already... Just eat so you can have little strength atleast... I had to convince her after sometimes before she left for her place of work.

We got back home by 3pm, I went into my room immediately, I'd barely removed my shirt when mum entered, she sat on the bed staring at me, go ahead and take your shower, she said.

I've been crying since I saw my result around 1:30pm, immediately I got to her supermarket, she knew something had hit me, she didn't ask much questions as she told her workers to take care in her stead as we headed to the car. It was in the car I explained everything to her, how could they have given me Bio-chemistry when I put in for pharmacy? Mum I'm confused, I don't even know what to do... don't worry, there will be a way out ok? You need not worry yourself about little things like that.
I was going to counter her about referring to such as little when I looked at her face and saw she was even more confused than I am....So I let her be.

As soon as i came back from the closet, she was still there sitting with her hands clapsed between her thighs. Mum, everything is going to be fine, I believe so, I said to calm all nerves... sure, sure she said relaxing a bit, if you don't want to study that course, then maybe you will have to join your sister in her school then abi? Since you will have the course you've always wished for eh......i didn't allow her continue as I cut in, mum just forget that, I can never go to a private university, not for anything...

My hatred for private University began when my uncle told me it's just an advanced secondary school, he listed how they are been restricted from doing certain things, get to eat what the school gives them and all, have to apply for permission before leaving the school premises. I was in awe when he narrated all these, it wasn't different from my experience in boarding school. What further convinced me was whenever we visit Kicky in school, she was always complaining of the food and the rest, God forbid, I won't be part of this.....

Nitel officials visited our house the previous week, we were connected and we could now use our land phone dad has bought several months ago lying fallow in his room all the while. We all waited till he came back around 10pm, my mum narrated everything to him while he sat on his usual spot. After so many deliberations, he reached out for his diary and seemed to find what he was looking for, then he dialled the number as we all watched in silence, I doubt if he still awake, he said more like to himself.... hello sir, he finally said as it seemed the person eventually picked, after exchanging pleasantries, then he went to narrate my ordeal, after he was quiet for sometimes, he said.... well he doesn't seem to have much choice as it stands, I will prepare him for the arrangement, thank you very much sir, he said as he hung up.

Who was that? My mum asked, my uncle working in University of Ado Ekiti (Unad), he said he should come around as he promised he could make his admission easy, my dad concluded as all eyes shifted on me, I was confused... Ado Ekiti? I doubt it, I thought silently....
Dad you need to give me time to think about this, there is no time as he said you need to be in Ado by Monday, he fired back..... whaaat? I said with more confusion, Monday? I felt i needed to use the restroom immediately and I rushed into my room immediately. I was seated on the closet for so long a time lost in my thought. One positive thing I could pick from the whole thing was that I would be far away from my parent's overbearing and ofcourse the course of study, apart from that everything looked odd.

You still dey inside toilet? That was the voice of my uncle, whenever things become tough like this, my parent always send my uncle to convince me and make me see reasons.... I kept quiet as I quickly clean up and flushed...
They sent you to me again? I will think about it on my own, thank you.... I said.
Mtchew, must anyone send me? See, if Unad is not a good school, you know I will tell you outrightly? Apart from the fact that the state has the slogan "FOUNTAIN OF KNOWLEDGE", I can tell you that State is one of the happening State in the country in term of education, social activities and the rest. The first girlfriend I had in secondary school even chose the school ahead of OAU, so you can imagine...he concluded.

What Mayor explained to me that night really helped in calming nerves, I started preparing for my trip to Ado Ekiti, dad already made arrangement for Saturday so I can have Sunday to relax before I follow his uncle into the school on Monday.. ..perfect arrangement, but it wasn't a good idea as far as my mom is concern, she doesn't want me to go far away from her as it takes 4 good hours to drive from Lagos to Ekiti State.

The days preceeding my trip was the longest days of my life, I was already looking forward to starting a new life, to become a man of my own who takes decision without recourse to anyone...my mum was emotional for those days, she was always coming to wherever I was and starting conversations both the relevant and the irrelevant.

It was on Thursday night prior to my trip, I was outside sitting on the boot of my mum's car discussing with my uncle about University life, when Ella (our last born) came calling me, dad asked me to call you, someone want to speak with you on the phone, she said..... Me? Who knows me? I said as I followed her inside. My dad was still on the phone when he announced to the other person he was talking to, he is here as he handed the receiver to me....... Hello, I said being inquisitive, no response, hello, I repeated... I was about giving up when the voice came... Gab, are you there? I kept quiet for some seconds to regain my sense.....Lo and behold, it was Sophie, my own Sophie.....Yea I'm here, how are you? I asked.... I'm not happy with you Gab, you couldn't call me all along, it was my dad who asked if I'd like to speak with you, I didn't even know you guys have a phone, she said in her usual accent, though I could read disappointment in her voice. All the while, my siblings were staring at me while my parent were watching the tv set, though I knew they were listening to my conversation.... I'm sorry Sophie, it never occurred to me I could speak to you through the phone, I would have done that if I'd known...
I miss you though...i said as I threw caution to the wind....
Eeeeeeeeh, my sisters shouted as they started laughing, my mum smiled as she cautioned them........ Who were those, Sophie asked..they are my siblings, I said embarrassed, then excuse yourself please as I want us to have an uninterrupted conversation ok... She said....
The phone is wired and connected to the wall, I tried explaining while she kept quiet on the other side for a moment before she replied.......... Well, I'm going to be brief then, I heard my dad saying you will be travelling on Saturday, I'll like to see you before then as we will be travelling the coming week too ok? So what's the arrangement gon be like? She asked....... what do you suggest? I asked... You tell me how you want it to be like as you are the man here Gab.....
Okay, can you have your driver bring you around tomorrow?
Yea sure, so when is the ideal time to come around huh? She asked
C'mon, whenever you come around is okay just make it a bit early, I said almost whispering not wanting my mum to hear... I heard her laugh briefly, okay I think 10 am should be okay then huh?
Perfect, I said..... What would you want me to bring over? She asked

........
Events unfolding for the past few days have been so emotional for me and my loved ones, it's like I'm going on a journey of no return. I now became a celebrity all of a sudden, everyone now pays attention to me. My sisters have been so helpful in ensuring things I will need in school are purchased, that's the essence of family, isn't it? We fight, quarel, makeup and laugh, but whatever it is, the bond is strong as ever!

It was Friday morning, dad drove out early as always, mum was preparing to go out too when she asked if I still need anything, so she could get them on her way back. That's the problem, I'm just like Oliver Twist, I always want something, who wouldn't anyway..... She drove out around quarter to 9 after I've told her my needs and she has also prepared fried rice and fried plantain that morning to ensure Sophia is well taken care of when she comes. She already spoke to her mum on phone and arrangement has been made that their driver would bring her whenever she is ready.

I went immediately to arranging the whole house, cleaning and putting other things in place as soon as she left, I then proceeded to my room to carry out thorough cleaning and rearrangement, changed my bedspread and pillow case. God knows that bedspread hasn't been washed & changed as long as I can remember, it's mum that always helped in washing and changing it whenever she comes into my room for pep talks......After I was satisfied of the whole settings, then I proceeded to take my bath, it was 10:15am and Sophia hasn't come yet. I was on the dining table with Ella when we heard the honk at the gate, I directed Ella to get the gate as I quickly packed up my food and put it inside the fridge.

As soon as Sophia stepped into the living room, her perfume filled the whole atmosphere, she was putting on a pink sleeveless shirt with a black jean and a simple black snickers, a pink ribbon was attached to her hair making her look glamorous and out of this world..... She had a black back pack clutched in her hand.... Sophie, I called gently..
Hello boy, she said not smiling, I knew she wasn't happy with me... I proceeded to introduce Ella to her, after they've exchanged pleasantries, she asked after my parent and my other siblings.... they've gone to their place of work, Kicky is in her room while my other sister followed my mum, Mayor has gone out too...i concluded... what about your driver, I didn't hear him drive in, is he outside?
Nah, he just dropped me and left, he will be back by 4pm, she said as she sat on the sofa, I sat beside her trying to make her smile, she was avoiding eye contact. She opened her backpack and brought out a pack of chocolate, she called out Ella who was still at the dining eating, she handed it over to Ella as soon as she came.... i got it for you, she said
Oh thank you, I really appreciate, Ella said beaming with smile as she went back to the dining. She quickly rushed her food and dashed inside obviously to show off the chocolate to my sister.....

I'm sorry Sophie, if I'd known, i would have called earlier trust me, I really missed talking to you, and I'm really going to miss you more now that I will travelling to Ekiti State and you will be out of the country in some days time, I just hope we can find a way through which can always communicate as I will always want to hear and read from you often......as I continued, I saw tears rolling down her cheek....damn!
I had to reach out for her hand and held it while I told her everything will be fine, if I have my way, I will ask you to follow me to Ekiti so we can start a new life there, I said as she brought out her handkerchief... She smiled as she looked at me for the first time...
I would have wished for that to happen but you know it's not possible, and i still don't understand why your parent would want you to go that far to study, they could have as well make preparation so you can study abroad....she said

We were in the living room for the next hour discussing about the pros and cons studying in Nigeria and far away from one's parent...

Personally it's my choice wanting to study faraway from my parent.. I said
Spare me all that Gab, you actually want such space so you can explore without restrictions and boundaries...
What am I exploring Sophie? I'm actually going to study hard to achieve my aims...
We both know those girls will be too handy to be ignored, and here you are wanting to explore, she said looking away and folding her arms at the same time....

I knew immediately all she needed at that point was assurance and reassurance, she didn't want another lady to take her place in my heart and at this point, I knew i need to choose my words carefully.........
Look Sophie, my primary objective going to that school is to achieve and set a mark, though I will make friends during the process, but none that can take your place in my heart, you are that special friend that understands me and cares about my well being, I won't trade that for anything at all.........i've barely concluded my statement when Kicky strolled into the living room staring at Sophie..

You must be Sophia, she said as she came close obviously to shake her, it's good to finally meet you, I've heard a lot about you... She said as I stared at her wanting to ask a thousand and one question...
Oh the pleasure is all mine and hope what has been said about me are good ? She said smiling...
For the record, I quickly cut in.....i don't remember discussing you with anybody, so i don't know where she got her info from........ I needed to be a step ahead of Kicky or else she will say things she shouldn't have said, she can be that mean.....

Well all have been good, she said ignoring my protest, I can see you two are getting along so fine, it's a good thing seeing him coming out of his shell, he can be so boring and uninteresting, it amused me to see you are...... Kicky please stop, I said almost pleading...
Okay, okay, I get.........so Sophia have you been entertained? What do you care for?

I'm okay for now, we've been having some pressing issues ironed out, before you came in, I will have those things as soon as i feel like it, and oh by the way, I got you something, she said as she dipped her hand and brought out two packs of chocolate...one for you and the other for your other sister, she said...
Oh, so thoughtful of you, thank you so much, God bless you... so has he told you about his trip yet? He doesn't want to go to same school with me, so he'd rather prefer a state owned institution with little or no funding to a private well equipped institution..... Kicky continued and the two got into a conversation effortlessly thereby sidelining me in the process... they were moving from one topic to another, I knew there and then I needed to excuse myself.
Where are you going? Sophie asked as I stood up, just wanna get something in the room, I will be right back, I said heading towards the room......

It was almost 30mins, and i could hear the two still laughing and enjoying their conversation, Ella has joined too. It annoys me how Sophia could forget me so easily, I was actually feeling jealous....
After another 5mins, I went out, not to the living room though, I went to the dining and brought out my food from the fridge, she must have seen me from the living room, she came to meet me and saw that I wasn't happy. Are we eating that food together, she asked smiling.....
Not at all, this is for me only, you can tell Kicky when you are set, she will set the dining for you... I said walking towards my room, I was surprised to see her following me as she smiled.. ...she eventually entered my room and commented how the room was clean, well arranged and smell nice..... thank you, I said eating the already cold food....she sat beside me on the bed....
Won't you feed me, or you'd rather prefer I starve whilst you satisfy yourself?
The food is cold, you won't like it.....i said.
As long as you are eating it, I don't mind eating it with you..... I handed over the plate to her, she refused and insisted i spoon feed her....Well, I was left with no other choice than to do that...

After sometime, she was lying on my bed while she insisted I play the piano for her, I chose Bob Marley's one love and did justice to the song, she was so very happy when I was done with the keys, I've never seen her so happy and blushing. I didn't waste time when I switched to Celine Dion's I'll be waiting for you, she stood from the bed and came standing next to me in awe, impressed and at the same time emotional. I stood as soon as i was done and we held each other in a tight embrace and emotions was running so high.............We were then staring into each other's eyes, there and then, I reached for her lips, it was the toughest decision I've ever made, she didn't hesitate nor turn away, then I felt what it was like to kiss an opposite sex, it was such an heavenly feelings I can't describe... her lips were so soft and warm as she parted them for me to explore, throwing caution to the wind and oblivious of our surrounding........

.......................
Hey sweetie, Sophie said slowly with eyes closed as we kiss... I paused as I looked into her eyes, are you fine?
Yea, I'm fine, she said as she held on to me so tight, I just want to be sure we know what we are doing Gab, almost whispering.....
I love you Sophie, I'm sure i do now, you are the best thing to have...........
Is the door locked? She cut in...
It's not, I said panicking, my heart started racing very fast, like it was going to drop from my chest......
Can you please lock the door? She said quietly.
She followed me to the door as I twisted the key, we resumed back immediately, this time she was more in control with intent and hunger.... I was there like a novice I was, my hands was static on her waist while her hands was roving over my body throwing my feelings and emotions into confusion at the Same time......
I pushed her gently to the wall, as she reached out and pulled off my top revealing my bare body, she then reached out to my nipple as she tease it with her finger, the sensation was going overboard, she then place my hand on her left breast, as she told me to handle gently....my erection was not hidden anymore, I've never felt that way before as it all looked confusing and interesting at the Same time....
I pushed up her pink top, revealing her black bra, she quickly moved as she un strapped the bra thereby revealing the two firm breast with slightly thick black nipples, she then pushed my head towards them.....
I sucked gently expecting a sugar like taste, I was surprise when it was tasteless, I took consolation in the good smell oozing from her body...
Sophia then reached out for my belt as she moaned softly tilting her head backward in ecstasy.......

Out of the blues came the knock, we paused to be sure, then the knock cane again and the door knob shifting like someone trying to force his way inside, and it jeered us both back to reality....
Sophia seemed not to be really bothered, she was a little disappointed with her look as she wore her bra and top reluctantly.... i quickly dashed to pick my top and wore it with every urgency left in me... I'm coming, I said as the knock came again...
Sophia settled on the chair at the keyboard staring at me as I went to get the door...... Where is Sophia? Her mum is on the line....and by the way, I've been at the door like forever, what were you guys doing? Kicky asked..... I ignored her as I followed Sophia as she went by her ahead to the living room...

She picked up the receiver as she settled on the sofa......Sweet mama, she said as she made gesture towards me to get her water, she was still on the call when mum honked at the gate, I went to get it....
You came back early mum, I said as she alighted from the car......Yes ooo, I came back early because of Sophia, I need to entertain and give her Africa treatment before she travels back, where is she? She asked...
She is on a call with her mum.........
Oh, mum's girl....she said as she opened the car trunk, we carried somethings she bought and we headed inside.....
You cannot greet abi? I said looking at Bella, my immediate younger sister, she is the prettiest among my sisters with good height that compliments her structure, though others didn't agree she is prettier than them....... must I always be the first to greet? Will heaven fall if you greet me too? I've been working my ass off all day to ensure you lots don't starve to death and the least you could do is greet and celebrate me, she said laughing as she ran ahead of mum because she knew I could slap her for that....

Sophia stood as soon as my mum entered with the receiver still clutched to her ear, and she made to kneel as my mum held her up, we will greet when you are done talking, she said as she walked into the kitchen, where are your sisters, did they not hear me drove in? Call them for me.....

Mum, my mum want to speak with you, Sophia called out as I quickly went to call my sisters....Mum was already on the call by the time I came back, Sophia by her side as she giggled eavesdropping on their conversation whilst mum smiles.....

I sat close trying to get her attention but she ignored me...
Hope they've been keeping you entertained all day eh? Don't worry, I will make pounded yam for you right now with egusi soup and bush meat ok? Let me quickly change my dress, I'm coming...she said as she made to go into her room, then Ella and Kicky came into the living room..... Good evening mum, Ella said as she went to hug her, she is the baby of the house.... You heard my voice and still stayed inside, you don't deem it necessary to come and greet me Abi? I'm too small to be greeted... my mum went on as she walked out of the living room, the two followed her inside as Bella stayed behind engaging Sophia, they are in the same age bracket, same height and both full of life...

Mum came out and went straight to the kitchen together with Kicky, while Sophia and Bella were talking and weighing Nigeria education system with that of the United State of America... I was all by myself staring blankly at the television set reminiscing on what just transpired in my room and the sudden change in the behavior of Sophie, she has been replying every of the conversation I initiated with mono syllabic replies avoiding eye contact me.... this was bothering me and I needed answers to this fast, all I needed was privacy and it seems to be eluding me.........

Sophie, can you please spare me a minute? I said cutting short their conversation... I couldn't take it anymore, she stopped like she was in deep thought not looking at me, then she excused herself and stood and walked towards me as Bella rushed to her room to change... I had that privacy at last ....
Why are you suddenly cold towards me, what's my offence? I said as she sat close to me with her hands clasped in between her thighs, she stares at the floor avoiding my gaze, please Sophie, don't give me this treatment, I don't deserve it....please look at me.... I said
Her eyes was full of tears as she looked at me, there and then, i knew why she has been avoiding my gaze...... she was angry that she will soon be leaving and the fact that we don't even know when next we are going to see, that was her second time of been to Nigeria, the first was when she was just 3years.

I don't want to betray my emotions in front of your family Gab, it looks like my world is crashing before me and I have little or nothing to do to stop the impending disaster... I don't know if I can survive without you, I've come to be very fond of you these past few days, it seemed I've known you like forever...i'm so confused right now Gab, she said with tears rolling down her cheeks uncontrollably...... I got so very emotional seeing those tears flows freely, I didn't know when tears flows down my cheek too, and that was when mum walks in from the kitchen with her soldiers behind her........
She stood transfixed confused, what's wrong, she called out...
She walked briskly towards Sophie and sat beside her, what's wrong Sophie, why the tears? The more she asked, the more the tears flows down her cheek. She pulled her up, held her hand and they both disappeared towards my mum's room...

....................I was so downcasted, emotionally drained & wished I could turn back the hand of time or perhaps fast forward the hands of time till when I will see Sophie again, she has fully captivated my heart, she has shown me the other side of myself which I didn't know i had until she came into my life. She is highly intelligent and doesn't hide her feelings unlike what we have around these days...

I was in my room for the remainder of the evening after Sophia's driver came to take her home. I've been the worst hit I guess, I feel so very empty and everything around me seemed to seized existing, I lost appetite virtually for everything. Mum has been to my room twice after Sophie left making jest of me and at the same time trying to make me see the importance of time and how time heals everything.

The look on Sophia's face when she emerged from mum's room should have lightened me up, but it made me more dejected, she wore a smile that assures everything will be fine, how could she be smiling while I was depressed?
She came sitting beside me, staring at each other without saying anything, but our silence meant alot as we were communicating through our eyes. We were alone in the living room, I could see pain and uncertainty through her smile, despite her effort of trying to conceal it.....Then she reached out and held my hand, she squeezed it lightly..... I don't know when next I'm going to be back in this country, but be rest assured that whatever little opportunity I have, I will always find my way back... dad has been cajoling me for years to always come with him to Nigeria whenever he visits, he wants me to aquaint myself with the country, I think the opportunity just present itself now.... she said patting my shoulder...
The rest of the evening was uneventful as her driver came around much later, she couldn't even eat the pounded yam mum made for her, she had to pack it for her so she could eat when she gets home and feels much better. We had a group hug before she entered the car, she was looking down as my siblings and mum were waving goodbye as the driver drove out of the compound...
The pain of seeing a special one drift away without having any power whatsoever of stopping it from happening is really devastating.

Are you sure you won't eat Gab, you need to eat so you can have full energy for your trip tomorrow, and you need to ensure every of the things you need is already in that suitcase lover boy, did you hear me?.... Mum said as she left me in the room all alone with my thought.
Sophie later called that night, we had a lengthy conversation assuring and reassuring each other of our commitment to eachother and how we would defy all odds to be with each other sooner than imagined.

The trip on Saturday morning was devoid of stress, my parent ensured the bus they chattered came to pick me at home and to ease conveying my luggage to the park. It was much drama as I sat beside the driver and made to drive out of the compound, Ella started crying, then my mum joined.... it was really a sight as the driver was laughing all the way....

We got to Ado Ekiti at exactly 11:43 am, the driver has been given the address of the professor I will be staying with before I secure my accommodation, we located the house without much hiccup, the building was located at federal housing estate, it was a duplex and two bedroom flats attached, the gate man opened the gate after the driver honked, he didn't ask much question as we drove inside... The prof and his family occupies the duplex while the other flats was rented out. A tall light woman in her late 50's came to open the door as soon as I knocked.... Good afternoon ma, I'm Gabriel Wellignton, I'm the son of.............
Oh Wellignton, how are you? My husband has told me about you, you are welcome, come inside, she said as she called out a name.... Dammy, Da-mmy!!
Yes mummy, she answered reluctantly from the direction of the kitchen...she appeared walking from the kitchen with apron wrapped around her body.
Dammy, meet Gabriel, the son of your daddy's brother he told us about.....
Gabriel, this is Damilola, my 3rd child... we exchanged pleasantries as she smiled and shook me...
Damilola is in her early 20's, she is a law student in the same university, she is tall just like her mum, with the same complexion.
Help your brother carry his other luggage as we show him his room, the mum said leading the way upstairs, she knocked before opening a room, that's to say I'm going to have a room mate, interesting....

Daniel, our visitor is here, she said as she peeped Into the room, can we come in?
She waved at us to enter as she held the door for us, so this is Gabriel, she started the introduction again just like she did with Dammy....This is Daniel, my second child, so obviously, you two will be sharing a room, is that okay by you Gabriel?
I smiled, it's okay ma.... not that I have any choice, I thought...
Daniel stood from the bed as he came to shake me...
He is in his mid 20's, he is a tall handsome guy, he is in faculty of engineering, he look very sociable... can you now excuse us now? I will help him unpack... Daniel said as he stared at his mum, Dammy left as soon as she dropped the luggage obviously because of what she was cooking....
No, i need to help him feel relaxed, or Gabriel you want me out too?
Oh not at all ma, but be assured I will be fine, I said as I sat on the bed.....
Oh, that's a way of discharging me, anyway feel at home, your brother will help you unpack, take your bath thereafter and come downstairs as soon as you are done so you can eat ok? Dad will soon be home too, he went for a meeting early this morning....
Okay ma, I will be downstairs as soon as I'm done..... then she walked away!
So how are you bro, how was your trip? And how is Lagos? Daniel asked in quick succession...
I'm good bro and Lagos is there as always..
Dad told me about your admission in Unilag and how you turned it down, must you study medicine? You must be a book worm boy....
I didn't even want to study medicine, I started.... it's because I'm left with no choice as pharmacy is not yet accredited in your school....
Oh, he exclaimed.....well don't worry you won't regret coming here, University of Ado Ekiti is a good school, and their faculty of medicine has the finesse professors in the country... and by the way, you will enjoy the social life too....
What level are you? I asked
I'm going to be resuming as a 400level student this semester..he said
And what about Dammy? I asked him again...
Oh Dammy is a 200level law student, have you met Tobi yet? He asked
Tobi I haven't, who is Tobi? I asked...
Tobi is our last born, she will be resuming with you this semester as a fresher, though she is in Accounting department, she must be in her room when you came in.....
Oh Okay, I said as I tried arranging my bags and he was of immense assistance.
Oh, I exclaimed as i opened a ghana must go bag, I shouldn't have brought this upstairs, it contains some bags of semo, poundo and ingredients my mum told me to give your mom.....
That's no problem, Dan said, we will take it downstairs as soon as we are done...

Dan has a mobile phone that his elder sister sent to him from UK, though the network always fluctuate as network providers in Nigeria then were just building structures and not yet established...
His phone rang, then he quickly went to the side of the window where he placed it, and picked....he spoke not for long as he hung up....
So you have a phone? I said surprised...
Yea I do, though the network isn't that good, that's the only place you can find network in this room, pointing to the window side, it's very frustrating...

Well, please can you allow me dial up a number? I pleaded...
Oh no, I don't have calling unit, I only receive calls on it...you can make use of the land line in the living room downstairs if you want to call. He concluded
Oh okay, I said as I walked into the closet to take my bath....
I was barely out when the door open, we both looked at the direction in surprise only to see a man in suit walked in with a sense of authority around him, he is not as tall as the wife, he is not light either, he has a spectacle on, he looked through the top of the spectacle.... I knew without anyone telling me he is the professor...
I quickly prostrated as he walked in, good afternoon sir....
How are you? He said briskly like he doesn't care if i was happy or not..... you look just like your dad, how is he?
He is fine sir, I said
Your mother and siblings? He asked again.. They are all doing fine sir, I repeated....
Tell me, why medicine? He asked not giving me room to catch my breadth...
Well, I started explaining how i opted to study medicine instead of pharmacy, the benefits and what I stand to contribute to mankind and the society at large.... he seemed impressed but not showing it...
Hmmm, he exclaimed, well get prepared, you are going to be writing an exam on Monday at the medical director's office, so that will give us an incline whether you are qualified to study medicine or not...
Okay sir, I said trying to figure out if that's how all professors behave...
Daniel, ensure you take him downstairs when he is done, your mum calls for him, see you later Gabriel.... he said as he walked away...

Don't mind him, Daniel said as soon as the dad left...all that he just did is shakara, you will get used to it before you know it...
I smiled not sure if I can get used to such behaviour....
We were soon downstairs before long, the dining was already set, I settled down to eat a plate of beans and bread.
I was on the dining set with Dan and Dammy while their mum went up to meet her husband....
Daniel was demonstrating to Dammy how their dad was bombarding me with questions when he came upstairs.... she was busy laughing and repeated same thing Dan told me not to worry myself as it was just an initial gragra......
This two already makes me feel welcome, I knew with them around, there won't be any dull moment... we discussed several topics as we ate and laughed interminently.... Their company was already something I cherished and look forward to until I saw the game changer descending the stairs with a book clutched in her hand......... Tobi
