I honestly don't know what that priority date means. I had thought its only applicable for family visas and spousal visas.

Concerning scheduling, I think you are having that issue because no date has popped up yet. If it has, you will see something on the lower left section of your profile page saying: "First Available Appointment is..."

Additional info on the K1 Visa.

'A K-1 visa is a visa issued to the fiancé or fiancée of a United States citizen to enter the United States.

A K-1 visa requires a foreigner to marry his or her U.S. citizen petitioner within 90 days of entry, or depart the United States. Once the couple marries, the foreign citizen can adjust status to become a lawful permanent resident of the United States (Green Card holder).

Although a K-1 visa is legally classified as a non-immigrant visa, it usually leads to important immigration benefits and is therefore often processed by the Immigrant Visa section of United States embassies and consulates worldwide.' (Wikipedia)

'K1 Visa Process

1. USCIS Filing: The United States citizen sponsor files the K1 visa petition with the USCIS by mailing the completed I-129F petition package along with a check to the Department of Homeland Security.

2. Notice of Action 1 (NOA1): Two to three weeks after mailing your petition, you will receive a notice of action (NOA1) indicating the USCIS has received your petition.

3. Notice of Action 2 (NOA2): Usually (currently), between 5 and 7 months after mailing your petition, you will receive a notice of action (NOA2) indicating the USCIS has approved, denied or requests additional evidence for your petition. If approved, you do nothing at this step. If you are denied, (end of story, marry your partner and file for a spousal visa). If you receive an RFE, you need to respond to it with the evidence requested.

4. NVC Phase: The service center that handled your petition forwards your case to the State Department’s NVC (National Visa Center). This will happen within two weeks of your approval. The NVC will run a security check on your fiance.

5. NVC to Embassy: If your fiance’s security check comes back clean, your approved K1 visa petition will be routed to the Bureau of Consular Affairs. The Bureau of Consular Affairs will send your file to the U.S. Embassy in your fiance’s country via DHL.

6. Embassy Letter: After receiving your visa petition, the U.S. Embassy (usually in the country of origin) sends the fiance a letter with instructions for scheduling the medical exam and interview.

7. Gather Embassy Documents: The U.S. Embassy will instruct the fiance to return some of the documents immediately. Other documents will be kept until the interview.

8. Medical Exam: The fiance must have a medical exam. The package sent to the fiance by the U.S. Embassy will explain how to schedule the medical exam.

9. Embassy Interview: The fiance must attend an interview at the U.S. Embassy. All applicants must bring their passport, including children of all ages. If children are joining on a K-2 visa, they must also attend the interview.

10. Visa Issued: If approved, there will usually be a wait of up to one week. The visa will be delivered via courier.

11. Travel to U.S.: The fiance has 6 months to use the visa to enter the United States. He or she will be given a package of documents by the U.S. Embassy which he or she will surrender at the Point of Entry (POE) into the United States.

12. Wedding: The petitioner must marry the alien fiance within 90 days of entry into the United States. If a wedding doesn’t take place within this time, the fiance must leave the United States. The 90 day clock starts on the date you enter the United States, which is normally stamped in your passport. The K1 visa beneficiary can only marry the person who submitted the petition. Eventually the alien must file an adjustment of status petition to receive the green card.' (RapidVisa)

Please sir I would love to know more about the k2 visa and it procedure.

K3 is no longer considered for Nigeria, I'm told. Don't know about other countries though.

When K3 was still considered, it's usually faster than K1.

K3 is a combination of Spousal Visa (IR1/CR1) and Fiance Visa (K1). So what happens is that a married couple (USC and Alien) commences the IR1/CR1 visa process but decide not to wait for the visa. They therefore go ahead and apply for K1 visa while the IR1/CR1 visa is still on. So if the K1 visa is approved before the IR1/CR1 visa, the Alien travels to the States to be with his or her USC wife/husband pending when the IR1/CR1 visa will be granted. At that point when the IR1/CR1 is granted, the Alien gets his or her green card.

The essence of the K3 visa was to shorten the waiting time for the couple to be together. But like I said, it's no longer applicable in Nigeria.

@kunlelikeme,

You are right concerning the green card. You'll get the green card faster with Spousal Visa. In fact you will get your green card not long after you enter the States. For the Fiancee visa, you could wait up to 6 months. However you can get your work permit while waiting for your green card if you entered the States with Fiance visa. You can also apply for Administrative Parole while waiting for your green card. It takes around 2 months to get your work permit/admin parole combo card while waiting for your green card.

Also the Fiancee (K1) Visa route is more expensive, I'm told, compared to the Spousal Visa. Also the petitioner for K1 must be a United States citizen (USC).

However, the K1 visa enables you to be with your woman/man as soon as possible. You can permanently be with your better half within 6 to 8 months of your application while it could take up to a year for Spousal visa.

So each have it's pros and cons. The choice is up to you. This thread is for those who have made their choice and chose K1 smiley.

Administrative Parole allows one to travel out of the States while waiting for his or her green card.

When you get your K1 Visa and enter the United States, you are not supposed to leave the States until you've gotten your green card. However if you have an emergency and need to travel, you can do so with Admin Parole.

P.S.: I had replied your Private Message in the past. Just check your gmail (the gmail you used to register on Nairaland), you'll see my response there.

NO! is the answer.

once you are sure there's no detail in your DS-160 that could change before the interview and you've booked an appointment, just go and do your medicals and wait for the embassy so far NVC has issued you a case number.

infact that's the best thing to do to avoid delays.

no how no how the embassy will call you before the medicals expire.

then let your police certificate run from the date around your appointment date.

Yes. It's better to wait until your green card arrives. And yes, you better apply for the Work Permit and Advance Parole (it's a combo card and the application is free if it is applied together with the green card) which gives you the right to work and travel. If you leave US without any of these documents, your case is closed and you can't get back, unless your spouse applies for a spouse visa for you and you wait for about 1 year or more and gather all the documents again.

You've already proceeded na.

You have filled the DS-160 form, made payments and have even created your ustraveldoc profile. So you have proceeded already grin. Or am I wrong?

If you have proceeded already, no problem. Just keep on checking your profile until dates become available. When it does, go ahead and book an appointment before going for your medicals. Please make sure you book your interview appointment before going for medicala.

If you haven't proceeded, no problem. Wait until you get an email from the embaasy then you can go ahead and submit your DS-160 form, make payments and upload your ustraveldoc profile. Keep checking for available dates so you can schedule your appointment interview on time.

If all the paperwork is real and well done and you have a face to face time with your fiance(e), you will be approved. Family of the US citizen rarely is denied, only if the embassy see lies, fake documents or criminal record. Also from the past year is the rule for medical exam checking for drugs in your blood and they can detect it as far as last 2-3 years use. But even if they find that, they do not deny yet ask you to stay clean from drugs for 1 year (as far I remember) and apply again.

I am trying to book an interview date but something is.not clear to me.

First I picked 15th march as the date I will travel to the U.S fin the DS 160 form, does that means I must book an interview date before this date?
If I see interview date Opened for April, does this means I can't book an interview date around this period?

Secondly, from the email forwarded to me it was stated that ("You must attempt to secure an interview date that falls before the expiration of your approved Form I-129F petition, since the validity of your approved petition may not be extended.)

Does this means if I don't get a date before the 18th of Feb,  I can not extend this application ?

Do I go ahead and pick from April dates? I am confused.

Tnx everyone.

Don't worry about that. I filled that I'll be traveling around December last year on my DS-160 but my interview was in January! So no cause for alarm. Just pick the earliest available date.

Go ahead and pick the earliest available date even if it's after the expiration date. No cause for alarm. Your expiration date will be automatically extended.

So are appointment dates now available? If they are, GO AHEAD AND BOOK NOW BEFORE IT BECOMES FULLY BOOKED. it gets filled up pretty quickly.

That is a contradicting statement.

And yes the application will be denied if drugs are found in your medical reports even for family applications.

It is not. If you are a US citizen family member, you can be denied but the US citizen has the option to apply for you again, to ask for help of the senator or congressman and to insist in bringing you to the states. Of course, you need to fill up your paperwork very well and fix any issue before reapply. Fiance(e), Spouse and minor children are the most reliable visa, US citizen can ask the government representatives for help and our embassy also always answers to our emails and is very helpful to our citizens.

I do agree with some of your explanations but when it comes to some illegal drugs being found in your system it gets very difficult for such petitions to be granted. Now except if the petition is for a minor child...but for an adult or in the case of a spouse who is an adult it gets very, very difficult to get approved even with the involvement of any congressman/woman intervention.

About drugs use, it’s not an automatic denial. Depending on prior history, treatments and your cooperation with the physician, you may be able to get an approval (or a waiver).

just in case you're still worried, here's the CDC guide doctors use for the medical... http://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/pdf/mental-health-pp-ti.pdf look on page 21 for descriptions of each mental health/drug abuse scenario. Page 6 explains the meaning of each of those terms. Note the recurrence of the terms abuse/addiction/dependence for drugs, and harmful behavior for mental health. Your copy of the medical will let you know what code you were assigned for this type of inadmissibility. "A" is the terrible one, the others can be overcome.

Hello everyone,
Please i need some advice here. I am trying to fill DS 160 form for my mum (B2) visitation and was asked if she has been given US visa before, I clicked yes . Then was asked for the month/ year and the visa no.

The problem is that, we are trying to find the passport because it was with my dad before he died. We have looked everywhere and still searching.

I called the embassy contact and was told they can't help me in regards to DS 160

Please what can be done?
I need to fill up so that I can pick a date for her.
