It's not different from the service charge NEPA used to charge before it was cancelled by Fashola. It's just a scam and extortion by pretense. It should be eradicated

Acceptance fee is a scam. My school then even introduced one they call "Money Manager Fee", Before you can collect the money from your parents, you must wear your convincing garment grin

So you don't waste their time with paperwork and run away to covenant university after files and database had been created for you.

That will ensure cost recovery for your admission

So you think it dosen't cost anything to print documents, advertise in newspapers, deploy man hours etc?

Universities don't remit to the FG. Infact they collect more from govt. Their funding from fees is small as you do not pay a tuition in federal schools. You pay fees only. International students pay tuition.

The acceptance fee I paid for my msc Admission is 5k plus other charges it totaled to 17k before I collected my admission letter. It's just a way to generate money by the school

The cold truth is that our universities are loss making institutions.

In November 2017, the VC of ABU in a speech stated that his overhead costs are 600million per annum. He gets 100million from government. Where is he going to find the remaining 500million? Charge extra fees.

What even makes things bad is that the money is not enough. Throw in corruption...and you get the point.

The harsh truth is that if you want good universites...if you want universities that look like the nice ones abroad...you pay high school fees.

Because it is becoming difficult to fund education in this country.Ideally, in my opinion (my opinion...mindyou) we should be spending 5 trillion naira yearly on education...primary,secondary and tertiary. Instad we spend N800bn out of a budget of N8-9 trillion, with an oil price that has been falling since 2014. So either fees go up, or we take fat loans...or we just accept poorly equipped universities...while Afe BABALOLA,Covenant and Babcock...where fees are over N1million per annum for some courses...take over.....and the graduates get the better jobs.

The VC dey lie no mind am, those small small fees you dey pay for micro finance bank & bursery makes the university atleast 5-10 million naira daily, now imagine multiples of that during registration & exams.

Nigerians are simple crooks, universities rake cash from students, serious cash

ABU is a very large and expansive university...located on a large piece of land. It consists of two campuses in Zaria, a campus in Funtuwa, Katsina State for remedial students, and several other affiliated institutions.

Am even surprised the overhead is 600million self. Might have been higher.

It's simply a Dog eat Dog world out there. It's the survival of the fittest so as soon as I land at Murtala Airport, everything about me changes. For starters, I leave my british accent at the airport and I adopt a proper thick Naija one.

My attitude also changes as the situation demands. I have found that more often than not being the Reasonable Mr Nice Guy does not cut it out there. One moment I'm "Mr Nice Guy" the next I'm " I go break bottle for ya head". It took me a while but i've also learnt how to drive like a Mental patient. Being orderly in a jam gets you absolutely nowhere. Infact quite the opposite. The queue of cars behind you would start raining curses on your head(whilst blasting their horns non stop) and if care is not taken, they'll bash your car just to create a little bit space.
