Gratitude that am going to spend my money for certain nos of year and which might not get to use the field of study after all the whole loss

That is the problem with a university degree..... But we have to take cognisance of the fact that, the university never forced us to take jamb and pay the acceptance fee.

Nah we carry ourselves for exploitation............. cheesy

To creates more revenue into the purse of federal government and to let the students takes the admission serious, as a student, once you've realised the stress and money you spent before the Main school fee, then it won't be easy for you to discontinue when you are about to pay the school fees, lastly, And to appreciate the acceptance

If it generates more revenue for govt why then does ASUU STRIKE PERSISTS??

It's simply a Dog eat Dog world out there. It's the survival of the fittest so as soon as I land at Murtala Airport, everything about me changes. For starters, I leave my british accent at the airport and I adopt a proper thick Naija one.

My attitude also changes as the situation demands. I have found that more often than not being the Reasonable Mr Nice Guy does not cut it out there. One moment I'm "Mr Nice Guy" the next I'm " I go break bottle for ya head". It took me a while but i've also learnt how to drive like a Mental patient. Being orderly in a jam gets you absolutely nowhere. Infact quite the opposite. The queue of cars behind you would start raining curses on your head(whilst blasting their horns non stop) and if care is not taken, they'll bash your car just to create a little bit space.
You’ve totally hit the nail on the head.

Plus the bolded is exactly how I find myself behaving whenever I’m there. Lmao Nigeria makes me SWITCH real quick

ABU is a very large and expansive university...located on a large piece of land. It consists of two campuses in Zaria, a campus in Funtuwa, Katsina State for remedial students, and several other affiliated institutions.

Am even surprised the overhead is 600million self. Might have been higher.

I believe he meant to say monthly not annually for the overhead.

Fellow Nairalanders, I can't seem to fathom out the essence of acceptance fees meant to be paid by newly admitted students.

WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE??

HOW IS THE MONEY UTILIZED??

WHOSE ACCOUNT IS THE MONEY BEING REMITTED TO?? FEDERATION ACCOUNT OR OTHERWISE??

Its a commitment that you are sealing the deal. Originally, it was meant to inform the school on the number of students accepting the offer.

Your showing gratitude of acceptance....... Thanking them and appreciating them accepting you, regardless of all your flaws, and also paying more fees for the privilege.....
how can you think so deeply and give this kind of pure pointless and senseless opinion, when education is your right. and when you will still pay school fees, my brother you are one of the people that are not moving this nation upward and forward, imagine the nonsense from your end.

The cold truth is that our universities are loss making institutions.

In November 2017, the VC of ABU in a speech stated that his overhead costs are 600million per annum. He gets 100million from government. Where is he going to find the remaining 500million? Charge extra fees.

What even makes things bad is that the money is not enough. Throw in corruption...and you get the point.

The harsh truth is that if you want good universites...if you want universities that look like the nice ones abroad...you pay high school fees.

Because it is becoming difficult to fund education in this country.Ideally, in my opinion (my opinion...mindyou) we should be spending 5 trillion naira yearly on education...primary,secondary and tertiary. Instad we spend N800bn out of a budget of N8-9 trillion, with an oil price that has been falling since 2014. So either fees go up, or we take fat loans...or we just accept poorly equipped universities...while Afe BABALOLA,Covenant and Babcock...where fees are over N1million per annum for some courses...take over.....and the graduates get the better jobs.

The VC is a bloody liar. I attended UNN and let's consider the official fees. UNN admits roughly about 6000 students each. Acceptance fee is #25,000. That's about 150M. School fees average about #50,000 for about 36000 students. That's about #1.8 billion. Yet to consider the money generated from school accommodations and businesses within the school. There is no way they don't make more than 3 billion outside of government subvention and donations from corporate organisations. Our VC once used $1 million donated by glo to renovate just hotel toilet. With the way our university system is managed even if you give them 10 billion every month they will still mismanage it. After government Ministries, public universities are the heaven of corruption.
