The mother showed no restraint over her emotions and àctions. When a person puts their hands on another person's body don't be shocked of retaliation. Just because a woman gave birth does not give her the right to violence.

I don't condone violence, it is to be avoided unless a person is protecting themselves. Some mothers have to learn that they are not above others. Your mother might have over reacted for slapping her, there are more mature ways to handle such. Although Temperament differs... Your wife on the other hand she has no regards for you nor your family, she stepped out of place to slap your mum.... My question to you is
If her own mother /father slapped her, would she trow the slap back huh

If not, let the divorce stay that way until she realize her mistake and make amends in ways possible, if she really want her home back she would do the needful... But if she will slap her own mum/ dad back instantly like she did to your mum, accept her in and follow her to beg your mum, as it is her temperament.....
