Taking others for granted ' could definitely be one of the stumbling blocks of somebody's personality. Turning a blind eye to a girl's feelings who garnered courage and expressed herself is not the characteristics of a gentleman. Moreover, despite of being reasonably sure of incompatibility, one should hold respect towards her sentiments and shouldn't take her for granted. Though it is not mandatory to always accept her 'proposal' but denial should not comprise one's dignity. There are polite ways to do that too.
Coming to the question, it is seldom seen that the girl makes the first move. But when she does, one thing is for sure that she must have mustered every ounce of courage to make that move and in my opinion, nothing could produce the sense of being so " special" to someone. The quote attempts to convey that when a girl gives all she has, to make you feel special, her efforts deserve due respect.
So if you don't feel the same way put her off nicely....

don't beat around the bush and lead her to believe there is hope where there isn't.
"I'm in a relationship", "Due to work/school/whatever, I'm not dating now", or maybe, "You're very nice, but I'm not attracted to you that way" might work, depending on you and circumstances.

“Hey, I am really touched, I am, but **insert name here**, right now, I simply cannot see myself in a relationship. I have too many things to focus on and I would not be a good BF to anyone. Therefore, I cannot give you what you want, ***if you want, you can insert what she wants here***, I am really sorry, but that is the way it has to be and perhaps it might be best for us if we have some space for now. Okay?”
Then you shut up. Don’t try to be overly nice, as it can be misconstrued. Don’t try to over explain. Stick to this and keep it short and if she asks questions or explanations, simply repeat this in a different way, so they get that you are honest but you are not going to change your mind. Just don’t be rude, and be kind. After that, leave, and go no contact for as long as you deem necessary. Voila.

naturally, I'm that nice kinda guy, she's not the only one in school that feels this way but she's the first to boldly state it... That's why I lack a response. But I'll try n do as you have said.

If it is the reverse the girl won't think twice to discharge you.
Re: . by sommyboi(m): 1:40pm On Feb 19, 2019
Many years back when I was an undergraduate , one of my classmates sent me a message that she loves me. Me being young and immature, replied "I love you too, but like a sister"... She hates me from that day till now. First thing you have to understand is that it's difficult for a woman to do what she's done. Don't take it for granted, massage her ego, make her feel appreciated and tell her you like her too. Meet her face to face and tell her you could be friends, to start with. You can never tell where good thing will come. She only said she likes you and not that she needs your life. Be a gentleman man jhoor.

A saying once said......date or marry someone dat loves u more and not d person u love more.....am sure u av feelings for d babe ...but ur inner pride dey confuse u...try avoiding d babe for 3 days...if u dont feel anything...den just tell her. face to face dat u dnt feel d same way..at least u are ready emotionally to face d consequences....but if u stalk or miss her...baba dis babe don give u enough green light....go now...before d green light go turn red light...and u will loose twice..

Since she deleted it, pretend like you didn't see it...

If it happens again, just tell her "I am not ready for a relationship" or "I have a girlfriend already"....But I think whichever way you put it, she'd still feel heartbroken ..

Tell her you saw the message she deleted, you respect her courage but unfortunately you don't have such feelings for her. You like her as a friend.

Friend zone her! *insert wicked laugh* grin
Re: . by Biglittlelois(f): 8:25pm On Feb 19, 2019
I don't understand the advice or comments above, she just said "I like you" so reply her by saying "I like you too" this is no big deal nah undecided had it been she said "I'm into you" or "I have feelings for you" or "I love you" then you can follow advices above.

I know what I go through in school n besides, she deleted the message afterwards... Do you think there wasn't more to it that she had to delete it?
Re: . by SaucyBenks(op): 9:06pm On Feb 19, 2019
Well guy's. I just let her be since she deleted the message before I could come online.
Re: . by Nobody:
Did you read the OP? She told him "I really like you".

"I really like you"
"I'm into you"
"I have feelings for you"

are all synonymous: same meaning, different words.

This is a tough situation.
But take this from someone who's been in your position and fumbled. If you don't have feelings for her, please tell her. Don't stir up hope or play along, tell her point blank you don't feel the same way.

I once agreed to date a girl after she opened up to me about her feelings.. I just couldn't say no cause I didn't want to hurt her. However, we started dating and I broke up with her after 4 days. She was devastated! And I still feel bad till this day.

Don't ever date someone out of pity.
Re: . by SkinnyNigga: 9:59pm On Feb 19, 2019

There's this girl in school who is madly fond of me, she's so into me that she buys me stuff and looks out for me during lectures... Today, about an hour ago, she sent a message that says I really like you

I don't know how to respond that's why I've not gone online since then... So I'm asking, how should my response be pls?
Tell her " I really like you too. Let's have lunch tomorrow after classes".

See? Easy, isn't it?

@ poster,
since you don't feel the same way, tell her. Don't lead her on.
I can tell a guy "I really like you" with no feelings whatsoever, it is not the same meaning with "into you" or "have feelings"
