Good evening Nairalanders on the UK thread. For someone who had had two years UK visit visa twice , would advice that the person applies for 10 years straight off or for 5 years after the expiration of the two years?
Thank you all

Great people...
I received my passport today with 2yrs visit visa.
I was previously issued a 6months visa but I didn't travel with it at all with expired Feb 3.

Now I applied for 2yrs and was issued
I just wrote a cover letter that I couldn't use the 6mnts visa due to workload.

Good day justwise and co.

I was in the UK from 2013 to 2017 as a student. I finished my masters and then enrolled in another school for professional exams. My Visa expired 30th April 2017 but I left the UK 15th May because I had an extensive 6 hour surgery on 24th April for a genetic chronic medical condition that I manage. My doctor advised me not to travel for 6 weeks after the surgery, to prevent pulmonary embolism which is fatal blood clotting after a surgery. By 15th May (Visa had already expired here), I felt that I was fit enough to travel even though it was very tough for me as my stitches were still fresh.
Before the surgery, I consulted 3 immigration lawyers to confirm if I was indeed covered (as a tier 4 student) by the NHS for the procedure. They said yes. I have all the documents of my diagnosis, surgery, admissions, etc.

My present situation: I am now an assistant lecturer in a Nigerian university and I want to apply for PhD in a UK university by 2020. I recently learnt one of my colleagues was turned back because he overstayed the first time. I am worried about that time I overstayed. I also have this strange feeling that that I owe them money and a bill is waiting for me there.
So, I want to apply and go for a conference in November this year to test the validity of my fears (against 2020). The conference is hosted by a globally recognised organisation exactly in the field that I had my masters in.

The summary of questions please:

1. Will I be rejected because I overstayed?
2. Do you think I owe them money?
3. How much should I have in my bank statement for the Visa application for November this year?
4. How soon should I start applying for a Visa for the November conference?

Thank you in advance.

1. I doubt that because you are allowed to overstay for 30days after your visa expired

2. Foreign students don't pay for medical treatment, were you told that that particular operation is not free?

3. You need to do your budget for the trip so as to know how much you need to have in your account

4. Sept.

4. Sept.

1. Okay, more than half of my concerns have reduced I guess.
2. No, I wasn't. Everyone I asked told me it's free. It's just that when I converted the costs to naira (found out from non NHIS private hospitals), it was a lot.
3. If the fear of Visa refusal isn't valid, then I am not sure I will need to travel this year again. Because of the following reasons:
A. My monthly pay is just N118,000. My budget for the trip will exceed times 3 of the my take home. Even though it is a conference, I am afraid I may face a refusal for financial reasons.
B. Whereas, the PhD visa I want to go for in 2020 will be funded by a scholarship if things go accordingly.
What do you think justwise? Wait till 2020 or do a trial using the conference? If there are hitches in November, I will know that I may have hitches in 2020. I will then start looking at another country very early.

My cousin that is inviting me for 2 weeks vacation only send a photocopy of his british passport bio data page and invitation letter indicating that he's going to be responsible for my accommodation and feeding. Though i will be the one responsible for travelling expenses. And there is a place in the form where they ask that who will pay for your expenses such as accommodation and food? And if someone other than yourself is paying for all or any part of the visit ? What should i put there since he didnt send any document apart from d invitation letter and photocopy of his bio data page.

I might be wrong but 60 pounds for two weeks feeding? That's a big no.

You might need to bump your sightseeing and shopping budget a little bit as £100 won't seriously get you much. A pair of good jeans cost €39.99 in Germany tho.

In all, I might be wrong sha.

Hello. Please I noticed a mistake recently on my Certificate of sponsorship. My surname was typed in place of given name and vice versa. I have already done my biometrics before I noticed this. I'm really worried if this won't affect my application. Thank you

@justwise please any comments on this?

I got a mail that my application was not straightforward on 7th Feb 2019 and i got another not straightforward mail on 22nd Feb,2019.
I called them on monday 25th Feb,2019.still have not heard from them.Today makes it 24 working days.I am worried and it is 6 months visitor visa..

Happened to my friend in Sept last year. We called them several times, yet nothing. He received another not straightforward after the first one. Anyway, his visa later came out, even when the date of the exam he was supposed to come to the UK had passed.[/quote]

Hi everyone.

I got a little question. They say the application should not be earlier than 3 months to the expected date of travel, does anyone know if this application is the online application date or the date of appointment for biometrics?

The date I submitted my application is slightly more than 3 months to expected travel date, but the chosen date for biometrics is within 3 months. Do you guys think it is a problem, from past experiences? Should I cancel and request for a refund, and fill another application?

Thanks

Good evening Justwise,

Please I'm trying to apply for a post graduate diploma which will take up to 12 weeks of study in London. I currently have a 2-year visit visa and I saw online that I have to apply for a short term study visa. Could you please advise me on how to go about this or direct me to a thread for short term study visa.

Many thanks

Hello Justwise, Good morning.
I'm currently filling my application form. I made a hotel reservation but learnt that it is a dorm room for 121 pounds and my budget for this trip is 1500 pounds. Removing flight and accomodation leaves with around 850 pounds. I intend spending 7 days, wont this dorm room affect my application or what can I do?

Your cousin needs to send you evidence of that accommodation available for you and his bank statement.

Your budget is far more than your 4monthly incomes, so you are likely to have problem with that
