Anything that comes from the West is the real deal... And that's how Africans have been enslaved in their thought process. *I remember when the US during Jonathan predicted that Nigeria will break up in 2015.*
Same way they refused to give us Ebola drugs. But we triumphed.

As things stand, Nigerian GDP per head is only £2,450. It could therefore be argued that the West perversely has an incentive to keep Africa in relative poverty. With an anti-business politician such as Buhari in charge, we perhaps don’t have to worry too much about an African invasion. We can cynically take our pick of its most educated, while leaving the rest to cope as best they can.

They deliberately need Nigeria's economic growth to stagnate, so most educated would leave the country for theirs.
In order words, support in starving Nigeria to weed out the most educated for themselves.

They have started with their doom saying again. They talked about this 4 years ago, and they were proved wrong. At least we were able to survive and manage it well. This would have happened assuming ND avengers keep causing havoc but it was also well managed. The structures of Nigeria and Venezuela are different. venezuela is under sanction, nigeria, no. Venezuela has post unrest situations, not in nigeria, there is fractional supports of opposition government from surrounding countries including america but in nigeria, no opposition or parallel government as at now, and everyone has moved on except atiku and pdp that likely go to court. The structures on ground are not the same.

Yes, poor economic policies by buhari led government may allow some foreign investors to be skeptical about investing in nigeria but is not as bad as they foresee. The main problem is that many free and stolen money that many advanced countries like UK see from Nigerian government in the past has drastically reduced. They depend on those money to grow their own economy and now no free corrupt money while the one they are protecting are been put under pressure to be recovered. They should face their brexit wahala and leave us alone until things stabilize.

You are not a smart person at all..just like 99% of APC supporters..Every economic indices is not portraying Nigeria in a positive light including the desperation to live as exhibited by the average Nigerian and yet here you are talking bunkum.

Nigeria is DOOMED! economically and politically..By 2030,eleven years from now the use of Fossil-fuel will become a thing of the past by Industrialised nations..According to them.

Your Crude-oil which Nigeri depends on exclusively for sustainance will become a useless environmental pollutant afterwards and nothing more..

Now what realistic plans are your useless and senseless poverty-touting charlatans we he have in buhari/APC making towards that effect?...

Nothing,zero,zilch!!!...

The one thing i am happy about is that the dis-integration,of this country is on course going forward and that is the truth!

That Nigeria economic prospects is declining rapidly is a fact.

That everybody, both fans and foes will suffer it is also another fact.

I don't have time or energy to start lambasting the ignorant or diabolical buhari fanatics here trying to turn truths on its head.

Telegraph like Amnesty International will only generate content that makes them money.

Nigeria is currently second largest economy in Africa , and Lagos the sixth. Telegraph claims S.A is ahead of Nigeria.

Telegraph cites a "political blogger", in the U.K would the Telegraph ask a political blogger or a professor for an opinion?

But, Nigerians in Nigeria don't read or use their brains. We like asking a plumber how to fix an electrical fault.

Same way we need a western newspaper to tell us we are going to die, and fool's like you start clapping.

Foolish Nigerian Youth.

But when the western Times newspaper reported that Buhari's election was based on his integrity, they were not wrong o? infact many apc followers quoted and requoted it for emphasis. Now that another western press is making negative prediction, the west is suddenly bias. Hypocrisy is one major problem Nigeria faces.

The guy is right, Nigeria is riveted with corruption, scamming , tribalism, religious fanaticism and one of the worst Infrastructure in the entire world.

Little wonder , many tech companies refuse to invest in Nigeria or even West Africa because these countries cannot guarantee stable electricity, clean water, health care and security. These are the basics of life and Nigeria struggles to even meet 10% of the overall requirement. It is sad but true, some of the best and brightest have fled the country and continue to flee the country;because of this , we see educational standards falling and ignorance multiplying.

Nigerians save yourselves before the country goes up in smoke.

Finally, we have the BREAK the STRONGHOLD of Islamic and Christian Madness from the minds of the people before they can begin to progress rapidly.

Correct. Instead of seeing doom as the west always want us to see, let's contribute our quota to national integration and deepen our quest for self-sufficiency, which the west always thrive to destroy. We shall get there. Cheers

wirinet:

I am also optimistic about the economic future under the Buhari government. The financial hemorrhaging has been reduced (not stopped). Infrastructural development is slowly picking up and we are likely to have a more friendly national assembly in the next 4 years

We are way off from the Venezuela model. I don't see Atiku and the political elite destroying our social and economic environment because of the questions for power. They have too much at stake.

The above shows the kind of stark mentality that you have. This is why your relation in the north is using your poverty template for the whole country. You expect sane Nigerians to buy 5 water melons, slice them on the table and start selling... What a silly mentality. We don't want your school of stvpid thought.

Don't mind them, they have their own agenda!

Can you imagine the trope, "...he glorified poverty and vilified success:" I smelled a rat when I saw that...a hatchet job!

When some London markets are dry and Dubai is missing Nigerian shoppers why won't they cry?

You can see the way we frittered away our dollars we shoud have pooled together for investment in power production and manufacturing to secure the future of our children. This was what China, India, USA did, they did not become the highest tourist tavellers or biggest foreign spenders before their economy was on sound footing. But you see many ignorant Nigerian middle class glorifying the era when anyone with little change can spend money for foreign airlines, give some to hotels and taxi driver in Dubai, dash more profit margin to Indian and Pakistani shop keepers in Dubai and come back home with inferior goods to show they have arrived. That is their own hallmark of a thriving economy at a time we are investing 1/8 of Ghana's spending on our own students, power supply below 4000MW and at a time 112 million Nigeria lived under the poverty line.

The tripe that Buhari is anti-business is coming from the hatchet writer David Hundeyin, who have no idea of business beyond putting money in crpto-currency and waiting for luck until the value goes up to make a killing. How does that provide jobs to the teaming population who don't have money to invest or know anything by crypto, stock or bonds? Do we empower the few Davids and leave the majority in poverty?

The rail lines and roads been constructed, will businesses not benefit from the lower cost of doing business? Did this government not make executive orders, by-passing a recalcitrant legislature, a move that led us to move up 24 places in the ease of doing business index? The hatchet writers are not aware of that. They don't want to know. It's obvious our past economic growth was predicated on steadily increasing oil prices and the down slope tracked the fall in same oil prices. But in this adverse condition as portfolio investors, not entirely a bad thing, run away in reform era, real sector investors are coming in.

The question to ask is an example of business that has been hounded for compliance with the laws of the land?
Shell that many condemned the FG as been anti-business for making a case about the Malabu oil scandal is about to be charged for wrong doing in their home country Netherlands. That is for a field located not in Netherlands but Niger-Delta in Nigeria.

Is this colonial mentality or inferiority complex or why should it be rule of law when a foreign Western country punishes bad behavior by companies and same case becomes hostility to business when an African country asks the same questions?

Buhari left wing ?? - I go die ooo grin

Bubu is left wing when it comes to power, the downstream oil sector and education.

All those sectors are heavily subsidized. Yes, petrol inclusive.

If Buhari was a capitalist, he would have completely removed all subsidies meaning that power bills would be as high as 30000 for a single room apartment on meter, fuel would be costing as high as 300 naira per liter, and universities fees would be as high as 2million naira. And sold NNPC.

Even Trader moni and NPower are typical socialist ideas. Provide cash for the poor.

And by the way, doing all the above would have generated investment and jobs, but would have been resisted by most Nigerians as people unfriendly .Invest looted funds instead of doing tradermoni? Not people oriented

Nigerian governments have typically practiced a mixed economy. It keeps both the capitalist elite and the socialist poor happy

If Buhari can assemble good economic team in this new administration it wont happen.

The problem isn't the economic team but Buhari himself.

He was the one that pegged the exchange rate at 197 to a $ upon assumption of office. This was ludicrous as countries have fled pegged exchange rates because of their ability to cause serious economic turmoil. Within months, it plunged the country into a severe recession.

Soludo, Utomin and especially Lamido Sanusi condemned the pegging and Buhari refused to budge. He famously said he don't know where in the worls devaluation as ever helped.

Economic growth during his first four years barely averaged 1% compared to the 6% prior to that. The country needs 7% growth rate to create enough jobs for those entering the labour force yearly.

I don't see it going beyond 4% over the next 4years. The country will experience a lost decade

Pegging the exchange rate was a gamble that paid in the long run. If Buhari had not insisted on pegging the naira, I am sure the dollar would have been selling close to 1000 to the dollar by now.

Crude prices which our dollar supply almost exclusively depended on plummeted to $30, so dollars was in serious scarcity. In this environment, what do you think would have happened if the naira was floated? Remember that at a time the dollar rose to N500 on the parallel market.
Luckily crude prices partially recovered and the government was able to manage the exchange rate again.
At that time the whole world was telling Nigeria to float the narrative (the IMF has always demanded we devalue the naira), but luckily Buhari stood firm. Countries that floated their currencies lived to regret it as they have not recovered from the 2015 oil crash till date.

I wrote off this government within a month of his ascendency to power once he pegged the exchange rate. I knew the country was in the hands of someone with a lamentable understanding of economics.

Utomi, Soludo and especially Lamido Sanusi condemned his economic pilicies. Lamido said there's nowhere in the world these policies have worked!

Please Google Sanusi condemns Buhari's policies. Also do the same for Soludo and Utomi.

Buhari brought this upon himself. Growth in the next 4years will average at most 3.5% a year compared to the 6% prior to May 29, 2015

They totally ignored where the article mentioned investment in education to bridge the middle gap and eventually eradicate poverty,
They just can't stand anybody criticizing Buhari even when their children would benefit from the criticism.
Only the rich get good education either from Christian/Muslim/Foreign institutions (Buhari included)
Let's keep calling the west names but conveniently forget Buhari lays his life in their hands when he goes for his Medicals.
