This same app that you can develop for 200k, someone said it will cost 500k, another said not less than 1m, another, 1.5m. please what's your take on this. Didn't quite understand all you said but I think major reason why most people go for from the ground solutions is the uniqueness of the idea.

It would take more time trying to bend some open source projects into what you want than it would take if you had just built it up yourself.

My opinion though is that if there is an open source that very closely matches what I need then I just fork it and get going
