Hello mama's in da house, am here again o with my plenty questions.
My DS is 7months old and has been having high temperature.
Took him to the hospital and the doctor gave us Artesunat and Emaquine.
But I have issues with the prescriptions
It say I should give him *17*ml of Artesunat 17 o not 7
And 8.5ml of Emaquine for 3days
Abeg make una no Waka pass
If 17 and 8.5ml not too much for a 7months old??!
Please help as I need to administer these drugs asap so he can feel better.
*NB: experienced mamas /pediatrician chook mouth

Was a lab test carried out before the prescription? If no, its better you see another doctor and insist on a test.

17ml is threemuch in my opinion. I want to believe it is a typographical error and a costly one at that. It is usually 5ml for that age.
I yamu not a doctor so please see another doctor. In the meantime, administer paracetamol syrup to bring the temperature down.

you need to see me before and after...I now look older than my age even hubby is complaining. I’m thinking of registering him in daycare I pray it helps.

Daycare will help. Just make sure you do proper checks before registering him in one.

At least while he is there, you can breathe with ease, pamper yourself and rest your body.

It's a phase though and some babies remain clingy for a long time despite enrolling them in creche.

Once they sight you again during pick up, they resume being clingy.

Go easy on yourself...

17ke?

Mba nu, see a real doctor, they will run tests and give medication that is appropriate. Generally for infant malaria sef they give dispersible tablets for you to dissolve in 5ml of water. 1 tablet in the morning, 1 ant night for 3 days

Unsweetened yoghurt is suitable for infants. Please check the label well before buying. Good brands include Farmfresh and Habib

This looks like heat. Please make sure ur baby's room is well ventilated. I will advise you continue with baby tribotan, you should see improvement in 3 days. Your baby is too small to try other things.

When your baby gets to 6months, I'd recommend authentic herbal cream for heat rashes or nappy rash. It is N100 and effective. There are 2 types, but the more effective type is the one with a lady's face and not the one with a boys face. It is made of aloe vera and some other soothing oil. Rising powder is also good.

Is this just on her face or all over? I feel she is reacting to something. What do you use on her skin and in bathing her? Tribotan usually does the trick for us tho

There is no thought that babies are indeed bundle of joy, but sometime we mothers/fathers face so many challenges raising our kids, so i want us to use this avenue to discuss any issue concerning them(our kids) here!!!!!! For example, my 8weeks old boy sleeps only 6 hours @ night but seems to enjoy more time sleeping during the day, but i must confess am not too happy about it at all, but what every1 is saying its normal.......... Nairalanders Is this normal?

I know I've used attenuate but I've forgotten the dosage.
I also think that for effective treatment, the drug is taken with another malaria drug. In this case you were given emaquine. There's this thing about malaria being resistant to some medications hence they had to start combining them for effective treatment hence we have artemether/lumefantrine, pyra/sulfadoxine and others.

Most of these drugs are administered according to body weight including paracetamol in other for it to be effective. So the dosage for 7kg and 10kg may be different.

Next time you are given a drug for your child, read through the leaflet, look at the dosage and adverse reactions. Use your calculator to compute the dosage. Have your Dr' s no for clarification. Go to a big pharmacy and ask questions.

NB. Paracetamol is given 15mg per kg. Some brand has 125mg per 5ml or 120mg per 5ml.
Let's assume your child weighs 5 kg.
5 x 15mg = 75mg
If 120mg = 5ml,
75mg = 75mg/ 120mg x 5ml
= 3ml.

I hope you understand my illustration. Thank you

A 4 months old can be treated for malaria if the child has malaria.

Pele mama, I had the same issue last week and mamas here advised tribotan which I started using since Sunday, as at today it has peeled off and I keep seeing improvement. I know how worrying it can be but have patience and keep using the tribotan, also practice good hygiene, take it easy on the fan too, it will clear off.

If you are using ori(shea butter) for her face. Stop it for now because we have been experiencing too much heat recently.
Its not compulsory to rub their face with oil/cream.

When you stop the ori, observe again, if the rashes persist even with administering tribotan then her bathing soap may be the culprit.

Cheers

When my baby had vomiting, we went to hospital and they took his blood for full blood count and malaria tests. They also did physical examination and his tonsils were seen to be enlarged. The lab result was positive for both tests and he was given malaria and antibiotics.

When in doubt please tell them to take his blood samples for lab test.
