REGENERATED

TEXT: 1 PETER 1:13-25
13. Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be
sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace
that is to be brought to you at the revelation of
Jesus Christ;
14. as obedient children, not conforming
yourselves to the former lusts, as in your
ignorance;
15. but as He who called you is holy, you also be
holy in all your conduct,
16. because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”
17. And if you call on the Father, who without
partiality judges according to each one’s work,
conduct yourselves throughout the time of your
stay here in fear;
18. knowing that you were not redeemed with
corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your
aimless conduct received by tradition from your
fathers,
19. but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a
lamb without blemish and without spot.
20. He indeed was foreordained before the
foundation of the world, but was manifest in
these last times for you
21. who through Him believe in God, who raised
Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that
your faith and hope are in God.
22. Since you have purified your souls in obeying
the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the
brethren, love one another fervently with a pure
heart,
23. having been born again, not of corruptible
seed but incorruptible, through the word of God
which lives and abides forever,
24. because “All flesh is as grass, And all the
glory of man as the flower of the grass. The
grass withers, And its flower falls away,
25. But the word of the Lord endures forever.”

How will you feel if you saw a Governor or
President eating boiled corn along the street or a
Professor eating mangoes in the market? Of
course, that will be quite embarrassing! This is
because different positions require specific
behaviours from their role incumbents. Similarly,
todays passage outlines biblical requirements for
those who have been called unto a new life in
Christ.
The Bible reminds us about the nature of He
who has called us (vs.15&17). He is holy and
impartial in judgment. This realization should
make us holy in speech and conduct (v.21). We
are also to remember that we are chosen (v.24),
powerfully and supernaturally redeemed (v.18)
and purchased and regenerated by an ever living
word of God (v.19). This means that we have a
new life, free from the bondages of sin, demonic
oppressions, ancestral curses, evil habits and
weaknesses.
We are also reminded about Gods future plan
concerning the rapture (v.13). Hence, we are to
continually focus our thoughts on the second
coming of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
This will make us to live in obedience to the
word of God and desist from the entanglements
of the world.
These expected behaviours should characterize
our lives as we await the return of our Lord and
Saviour, Jesus Christ.

PRAYER: Oh Lord, help me to live out a
regenerated life to those around me.

THEME: PATTERNED LIKE CHRIST

TEXT: EPHESIANS 5:21-23
21. submitting to one another in the fear of God.
22. Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to
the Lord.
23. For the husband is head of the wife, as also
Christ is head of the church; and He is the
Savior of the body.

GUIDE TEXT
We live in a generation where the family has
been threatened by divorce, wrong philosophies,
separation, etc. In spite of this, the word of God
is clear and unchanging about expected patterns
of behaviour to achieve Christian unity in the
home.
These regulations are not based on
circumstances, but should be adhered to out of
reverence for Christ (v.21). It is out of this
reverence, that husbands and wives should be
subject to each other in spite of their cultures
(v. 21).Wives are enjoined to submit and adapt
to their husbands as the appointed head of the
family, irrespective of their status, education,
experience, etc.
Husbands are to love their wives in two ways: as
Christ loved the Church (v.25) and as their own
bodies (v.28). Note that no wife is a perfect
package but is given to the husband (likened to
the Church and Christ) to sanctify by words and
deeds to make her glorious to himself (vs.26-28)
Finally, absolute unity is required (v.31)
signifying detachment from every culture, family
ties, peer pressure and environmental influences
that negate biblical principles of relationship for
marriage. It is our work as believers to return to
this pattern to restore the lost glory of the family
in our generation.

PRAYER: Lord please help me to adhere to
biblical roles stipulated for my position in the
family, in Jesus name.

THEME: THE BLACK BRIDE AND THE
BEAUTIFUL BRIDEGROOM

SONGS OF SOLOMON 1:1 -17
1. The song of songs, which is Solomon’s.
2. Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth—
For your love is better than wine.
3. Because of the fragrance of your good
ointments, Your name is ointment poured forth;
Therefore the virgins love you.
4. Draw me away! We will run after you. The king
has brought me into his chambers. We will be
glad and rejoice in you. We will remember your
love more than wine. Rightly do they love you.
5. I am dark, but lovely, O daughters of
Jerusalem, Like the tents of Kedar, Like the
curtains of Solomon.

GUIDE TEXT
This book is usually accepted as an allegory
between Christ (the King) and his Church (the
bride). Todays passage contains a beautiful
illustration of Gods salvation plan and our
expected response.
The original colour of the bride was thwarted by
her angry stepbrothers who made her to work in
the sun as a keeper of vineyards (v.5). Similarly,
Gods divine plan for us is to be righteous.
Unfortunately through our inherited Adamic
nature, the enemy made us keepers of vineyards
of lies, theft, immorality, bribery, etc.
This changed our heavenly colour of
righteousness just as the bride became black as
a result of her activities. But thank God for our
King and Lord, Jesus Christ who came to draw
us away from sin into His chamber of love at
Calvary (v.4). He sees a beauty in us, worthy to
be harnessed for His glory (v.15). Like the bride
in todays passage, we are expected to respond
positively by running after Him (v. 4)
Have you responded to His love or are you still
satisfied with being a keeper of vineyards of sin?
The King still calls today. Repent and accept Him
into your life.
Dwell in contentment (vs.16-17) in His chamber
through daily prayers, bible study, worship and
commitment and it shall be well with you.

PRAYERS: I am tired of being a keeper of
the vineyard of unrighteousness. I repent today
and ask you Lord Jesus to take over my Life as
my King, Lord and Saviour.

(LENT 3)

THEME: WHO IS JESUS TO YOU?

TEXT:LUKE 9:18-27
18. And it happened, as He was alone praying,
that His disciples joined Him, and He asked
them, saying, “Who do the crowds say that I
am?”
19. So they answered and said, “John the
Baptist, but some say Elijah; and others say that
one of the old prophets has risen again.”
20. He said to them, “But who do you say that I
am?” Peter answered and said, “The Christ of
God.”
21. And He strictly warned and commanded them
to tell this to no one,
22. saying, “The Son of Man must suffer many
things, and be rejected by the elders and chief
priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised
the third day.”
23. Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires
to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take
up his cross daily, and follow Me.
24. For whoever desires to save his life will lose
it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will
save it.
25. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the
whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost?
26. For whoever is ashamed of Me and My
words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed
when He comes in His own glory, and in His
Father’s, and of the holy angels.
27. But I tell you truly, there are some standing
here who shall not taste death till they see the
kingdom of God.”

GUIDE TEXT
A friend told me how a Muslim joined in shouting
“the blood of Jesus when their car almost had
an accident.” Afterwards, they asked him why he
shouted the blood of Jesus and he told them
that he had to call upon anything that would
save him in times of danger. The blood of Jesus
to him was only for deliverance from accidents.
In times past, many regarded Jesus as a prophet
or a resurrected John the Baptist. Only Peter, out
of all the disciples, answered that He is Christ.
This shows that we might be seen as disciples
without knowing who Christ is.
Today, some Christians regard him as a talisman
and deliverer in times of accidents, childbirth,
sickness, demonic attacks, threats from enemies,
etc. To some others, he is a prophet to reveal
their past, future and enemies around them while
their lives are contrary Gods word.
Those who will accept Him as Lord are
instructed in verse 25 to deny themselves, follow
Him and value Him above all (v.25) and boldly
stand for Him (v.26).
They are also to sit with Him to listen to His
word or teachings (v.18). Who is Jesus to you?
He came to be your Lord and Saviour. Open your
heart so that the power to become His disciple
will flow into your life.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, I want you to be
more than a healer, deliverer and supplier to me.
I accept you as my Lord and personal Saviour
today.

(The Annunciation of our Lord to the Blessed
Virgin Mary)

THEME: THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL
OVERSHADOW YOU

LUKE 1:26-38
26. Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was
sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth,
27. to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name
was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s
name was Mary.
28. And having come in, the angel said to her,
“Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you;
blessed are you among women!”
29. But when she saw him, she was troubled at
his saying, and considered what manner of
greeting this was.
30. Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid,
Mary, for you have found favor with God.
31. And behold, you will conceive in your womb
and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name
Jesus .
32. He will be great, and will be called the Son of
the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the
throne of His father David.
33. And He will reign over the house of Jacob
forever, and of His kingdom there will be no

be, since I do not know a man?”

The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the
power of the Highest will overshadow you;
therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born
will be called the Son of God.

conceived a son in her old age; and this is now
the sixth month for her who was called barren.
37. For with God nothing will be impossible.”
38. Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of
the Lord! Let it be to me according to your
word.” And the angel departed from her.

GUIDE TEXT
Angel Gabriel told Mary that she had been
chosen to become the mother of Jesus. This
message contravened scientific laws guiding
human conception. However, the angel assured
her that a visitation of the Holy Spirit turns
impossibilities to possibilities. Marys miracle was
already discussed, concluded and packaged in
heaven without her knowledge. Heaven visited
her on an unexpected day.
Note that Mary created an environment for her
divine purpose to be accomplished. She was
chaste, though engaged (v.7), an eroded quality
today among the young and old. She was open
to learn (v.34) unlike some who are content to
sit in ignorance about biblical truths and
doctrines. Mary believed Gods word, acted by
faith and spoke positively even before seeing
changes in her body (v.38). Learn from Mary.
Always create a positive environment for
heavenly visitation.
The Holy Spirit will come and overshadow your
family and challenging situations. He will change
the situations which have defied human strength
and knowledge. So get ready for you are
packaged for a miracle.

and create an environment for heavenly
visitation.

THEME: LILY AMONG THORNS

SONGS OF SOLOMON 2:1-17

woods, So is my beloved among the sons. I sat
down in his shade with great delight, And his
fruit was sweet to my taste.

5. Sustain me with cakes of raisins, Refresh me
with apples, For I am lovesick.
6. His left hand is under my head, And his right
hand embraces me.

GUIDE TEXT
The bridegroom first of all reminds the bride that
she is a lily among thorns (v.2). We need to
realize that believers are like lily flowers existing
in the midst of the thorns of the world. We must
be careful to remain beautiful for God and not to
be crushed or destroyed by the world. The
bridegroom also stresses the need to sit with
delight in Gods presence so that we can be
sustained (vs.3&5). There is the need to drive
away the little foxes of sin that spoil our
Christian faith and behaviour (v.15).
God, like the King in verse 9, is able to look
through windows, walls and lattices of our lives
and situations. We need to listen to instructions
in His word for He sees and knows beyond us.
The King told his bride when to rise or come
away because of the change in seasons.
Similarly we need to obey God when he calls us
to pray, study the bible, have retreats or vigils
due to changes in the seasons of life.
Recognize that seasons of cold, heat, etc., exist
in life. His instructions will help us to be
victorious over each season and if we hold His
hand, He will guide us through the rocky
mountains (v.14).

PRAYER: Lord please help me to be an
obedient bride so that I can radiate your beauty
as a flower and remain uncrushed among the
thorns of this life.

THEME: WHEN THE KING SEEMS LOST


TEXT: SONGS OF SOLOMON 3:1-11
1. By night on my bed I sought the one I love; I
sought him, but I did not find him.
2.“I will rise now,” I said, “And go about the city;
In the streets and in the squares I will seek the
one I love.” I sought him, but I did not find him.
3. The watchmen who go about the city found
me; I said, “Have you seen the one I love?”
4. Scarcely had I passed by them, When I found
the one I love. I held him and would not let him
go, Until I had brought him to the house of my
mother, And into the chamber of her who
conceived me.
5. I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, By
the gazelles or by the does of the field, Do not
stir up nor awaken love Until it pleases.
6. Who is this coming out of the wilderness Like
pillars of smoke, Perfumed with myrrh and
frankincense, With all the merchant’s fragrant

7. Behold, it is Solomon’s couch, With sixty

GUIDE TEXT
The terrible things happening in the world today
often make people to wonder whether God is still
in control. Again, faithful believers often face
challenges of unemployment, barrenness,
sickness, poverty, bondages, business
downswings, erring children, etc., making it seem
as if God is lost.’ Such believers spend time with
Jesus but fail to find Him like the bride in time
of their need (v.1).
The response of the bride in this passage is a
lesson for us during such trying times. In verse
two, she decided to find her king and she
remained resolute even when she could not find
him (v.2). She also asked about her King from
watchmen who could not provide satisfactory
answers. Undeterred, she continued her search
till she found him in verse 4, held him and
brought him into her mothers house.
Do you abandon or look for God during trying
periods? Do you meet the right people for godly
counsel? Do you ensure that the testimony of
your miracle when it happens is an avenue to
touch members of your family or friends? Learn
from the bride who brought the King to her
mothers house. Hold on in spite of the prolonged
silence of heaven till your miracle occurs. Your
testimonies will transform lives in Jesus Name.

PRAYER: Lord help me not to waiver in
trying times but to hold on till my miracle
manifests to change lives around me in Jesus
Name, Amen.

GUIDE TEXT
Do you want to please God? The bride in todays
passage pleased the king because of the
qualities she exhibited.
These qualities are:
1. Absence of flaw (v.7) which signifies a life of
holiness unto God;
2. Separation from Lebanon, Hermon, lions and
mountains of leopards, etc., (v. signifying a
life, separated from pride and sin;
3. She made her king happy, giving him courage
to look at her (v.9). Our lives as Gods children
should make God happy and boastful about us;
4. She loves the king (v.10). Our love for God
should be evident to all by the level of
commitment we show in our Christian duties; 5.
Her lips were likened to honey and milk (v.11)
signifying lips used to glorify God and edify men;
6. Her garment was like the fragrant ointment of
Lebanon, showing a physical appearance that
glorifies God (v.11);
7. The bride is likened to an enclosed and barred
garden (v.12); depicting a Christian life with no
entrance of ungodliness and worldliness;
8. The bride lives a fruitful Christian life depicted
by orchards, fruits etc. (v.13);
9. She is a garden and fountain (v.15), showing a
deposit of Gods talents and gifts.
Our talents and gifts should flow from our lives
to others around us.

PRAYER: Lord, may our lives exhibit the
qualities expected from the bride of Christ.

have drunk my wine with my milk. Eat, O friends!
Drink, yes, drink deeply, O beloved ones!
2. I sleep, but my heart is awake; It is the voice
of my beloved! He knocks, saying, “Open for me,
my sister, my love, My dove, my perfect one; For
my head is covered with dew, My locks with the
drops of the night.”
3. I have taken off my robe; How can I put it on
again? I have washed my feet; How can I defile
them?
4. My beloved put his hand By the latch of the
door, And my heart yearned for him.
5. I arose to open for my beloved, And my hands
dripped with myrrh, My fingers with liquid myrrh,
On the handles of the lock.

GUIDE TEXT
Many years ago, God woke me up around 4am
and instructed me to pray. I was enjoying my
sleep so I ignored the instruction. By 6.30am my
father in-law was knocked down by a car as he
was returning to his house after early morning
prayers.
He died before we could get to the hospital to
see him. I cried profusely but it was too late. His
death could have been averted when the King
visited me and requested intercession but I was
too sleepy to respond.
The King in todays passage visited his bride at
an unexpected period. She was tired and gave all
sorts of good reasons why she should not
welcome him (v.3). Unfortunately when she was
ready to open the door, the King had gone.
This story depicts what happens in our lives
when we miss fellowships, church services and
programmes, godly counsel due to beautiful
excuses of business engagements, sleep,
deadlines to meet, etc., while being ignorant of
what heaven packaged for us in such
programmes. We sometimes find God seemingly
far away when we now decide to seek for Him
like the bride.
Note that the watchmen wounded her, took her
veil and mantle in verses 6 and 7 in the process
her looking for her king. These are some of the
wounds we sustain (our righteousness and
authority) when we turn a deaf ear when God is
willing to help us. Today many are still sick, poor
and in bondage because they wanted God to
come when they were comfortable to receive
him. Such people, like the bride, often lose great
resources, righteousness, etc., when they finally
decide to seek for God. May we not pay dearly
to look for our king because we missed the time
of our visitation!

Today, the King commended his bride for
excelling above all queens and virgins. She
merited this commendation because she is the
garden of her King (v.3). She is also undefiled
and perfect (v.9). She was always talking about
her king and never confessed negatively about
him (vs.1-2) when the women asked her
questions about the whereabouts of her beloved.
She stands alone for her King and her character
causes people to praise her (v.11).
Every Christian is the garden of the Lord. This
means that we are a deposit of His nature,
power, gifts and plans. This demands fruitfulness
through the sharing of the gospel with others as
the bride did in verse 1 to the ladies. We are
also expected to excel above others in character,
to bring praises to God.
We should live holy lives in this depraved
generation and be ready to stand alone for our
King even where sin is condoned. We are to trust
God without wavering even when we face
situations that make people to ask, where is our
God? Hebrews chapter 11 outlines the great
works of men and women who stood for their
faith.
God is looking for those who will stand above all
for Him in this generation. Decide today to be
one of them.

PRAYER: Lord help me to stand and excel
for you in all my endeavors in Jesus Name,
Amen.

GUIDE TEXT
Have you ever been to a cave? The entrance to
caves is usually narrow, requiring entrants to
make personal adjustments to pass through
them. The tour guide usually gives instructions
to enable entrants fit into the door and other
parts of the cave so that they can be safe.
Todays reading advises us to enter through the
narrow gate if we want life (vs.13-14).
Those who wish to heed to this advice are
required to do the following:
(1) First, conduct a personal inward search into
their lives instead of criticizing others. The aim
is to remove beams or impediments that will
constitute an obstacle in their heavenly race.
(2) Desist from giving holy things to dogs which
entails playing or jesting with spiritual things,
marrying non-believers, discussing spiritual
matters/problems in the church with the wrong
people. The result is that they will turn around
and make a mockery of our faith (v.6).
(3) Persevere in prayers (vs.7-.
(4) Adhere to the golden rule which states that
you should do what you want others to do for you
(vs.12).
(5) Trust absolutely on the faithfulness and love
of God (vs.11).
This truly requires a life of sacrifice.

PRAYER: Lord help me to adhere to these
instructions so that I can pass through the
narrow gate of life in Jesus Name. AMEN.

THEME: SEX AND MARRIAGE

1 CORINTHIANS 7:1-11

let each man have his own wife, and let each
woman have her own husband.
3. Let the husband render to his wife the
affection due her, and likewise also the wife to
her husband.

5. Do not deprive one another except with

GUIDE TEXT
The Corinthians had written to Paul, asking him
several questions with respect to sex and
marriage (v.1).
They had suggested that it is good for a man not
to marry. Paul, in response said yes but advised
that because of the prevalence of sexual
immorality at Corinth, each man should have his
own wife, and each woman should have her own
husband (v.2). According to Paul, staying
married or unmarried are both gifts from God.
Paul was not saying here that the sole aim of
marriage is to curb immorality but within a
culture saturated with sexual immorality,
marriage provides Gods way to satisfy these
desires which are normal and natural. So for
those who are gifted to marry, not marrying is
exposing themselves to sexual temptation and
immorality. For it is better to marry than to burn
with lust.
In marriage, which of course, must be
monogamous as recommended by Paul in verse
2, the husband and wife have a responsibility to
fulfill the sexual needs of each other.
The only ground for abstinence is on the consent
of both partners. The unmarried should abstain
from all sexual relationships until they marry.
Finally, verses 10 and 11 make it clear that
divorce is not the will of God.

PRAYER: Father, the author of marriage,
please help me to enjoy and maximize the gift of
marriage.

GUIDE TEXT
John the Baptist was a voice crying, repent, for
the kingdom of heaven is at hand! He preached
repentance. Jesus, in Mark 1:15 says, Repent
and believe in the gospel.
In Acts 2:37-38, on the day of Pentecost, Peter
preached repentance saying, Repent, and let
every one of you be baptized in the name of
Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. Paul also
in Acts 20:20-21 said: testifying to Jews, and
also to Greeks, repentance toward God and faith
toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
Repentance is one of the great doctrines of the
Christian faith. Repentance is the first move of
any man in returning to God. Religion is not a
substitute for repentance.
Except you repent, you will perish (Luke 13:1-5).
Repentance is decision, followed by action. It is
not mere emotion. We all need to repent (Isaiah
55:6). We may not have committed immorality or
stolen, but we have all turned our own way. The
entire human race is guilty of iniquity (rebellion/
self-will). Unfortunately, many are confessing
faith in Christ without repentance.
The story of the prodigal son is one of the
clearest examples of what repentance means
(Luke 15:11-24). It is decision followed by
action. Note that repentance is not a once-and-
for-all thing; the more light comes to us from
the word of God, the more we repent to align
ourselves with the revealed truth.

PRAYER: Father, please open my eyes to
areas of my life I must repent of.

MATTHEW 3:13-17

it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to

heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the
Spirit of God descending like a dove and
alighting upon Him.

GUIDE TEXT
Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan
to be baptized by him. What a distance it took
Jesus to go for water baptism. John tried to
prevent Him but Jesus insisted: permit it to be
so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all
righteousness.”
Jesus went through the rigours of baptism to
fulfill all righteousness, even though He did not
need one. It will not be an assumption to say
that the reason for Jesus submission to water
baptism was to set us an example and to affirm
this very important fundamental doctrine of the
Christian faith. Christian baptism is a public
confirmation of what has happened in the inside,
a changed heart. Baptism is essentially a
commitment. It is identification with Jesus in His
death, burial and resurrection (Romans 6). It is a
commitment to discipleship (Matthew 28:19-20).
Notice that as soon as Jesus was baptized, the
heavens were opened unto Him. Identifying with
the death and resurrection of Jesus and
commitment to practical discipleship, marked by
a life of obedience, opens the heavens over a
man. It makes a man secure the favour of God,
and leads to living a life that pleases God.
Are the heavens closed to you? Does it look to
you that God is not well pleased with you? Check
your life of obedience; insist on walking in
obedience to the will of God that you know.

PRAYER: Lord, help me yield to You
unreservedly.

5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city,
and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

his angels charge concerning thee: and in their

MESSAGE:
Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the
wilderness to be tempted by the devil (v.1). It
would seem that to the Holy Spirit, the journey
to temptation is an upward journey whereas in
the mind of the devil, it is a journey downwards.
God allows temptation for our promotion while
Satan tempts us for our demotion. Jesus, our
Master, was tempted by the devil and hence,
none of His disciples is exempt from temptation.
We must approach temptation as an opportunity
for growth or promotion as James observed,
calling it "the trial of faith."
Satan tempts us most in the area of our greater
hunger/desire (vs. 2-3). James affirms this truth
(James 1: 13-14),1 is also important to note the
nature of temptation from the passage
temptation is progressive, if the devil fails at the
first attempt, he tries the second and the third
and when these fail, he waits for an opportune
time. Hence, one does not outgrow temptation
nor does one gain victory over temptation once
and for all (vs. 3-10) Moreover, the temptation of
Jesus reveals the three natures of Satan’s
temptation of man: the lust of the flesh, the lust
of the eyes and the pride of life. The instrument
Jesus used to defeat the devil and overcome
temptation is the word of God. The word of God
and prayer are the two key instruments for
fighting temptation (Psalm 119: 11; Matthew 6:
13).

PRAYER: Father, grant me grace to be victorious
over temptations.

MESSAGE:
Following the imprisonment of John, Jesus went
and lived in Capernaum. His time there was so
effective that the conclusion was that those who
sat in the region of darkness saw a great light. It
was by his lifestyle that Jesus preached first.
How did He live that people around concluded
that "Light has dawned?" Are you living out the
principles of God’s word in your environment?
Can those around you conclude that your life is
bringing the light of the word of God to them?
Verse 17 tells us the beginning of our Lord’s
ministry among men. He began to preach and to
say, "Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at
hand." It is important to note that there is no
work as important to the souls of men as the
preaching of the gospel! no office as honourable
as that of the preacher. It is the office which
the Son of God was not ashamed to take up, the
office to which He appointed His twelve apostles
and the work which Paul, in his old age, charged
Timothy to do. It is for the conversion and
edification of souls. We must keep praying for
Nigeria that the preaching of the word will go
unhindered. And because of the importance of
preaching in the church, nothing must be placed
above the preaching of the word.

PRAYER: Father; please give Your church great
utterance for the preaching of Your word in
these last days.

MESSAGE:
Jesus, from the onset of His ministry, not only
began to preach (v.17) but also began to search
and call men whom He trained to fish for other
men. This is very instructive for us because no
man is everlasting and no man can be
everywhere at the same time. So, when we
preach the gospel, we must also be committed
to raising men that will be able to do what we
are doing. The gospel spreads faster this way
and it also guarantees continuity.
Notice the class of men whom the Lord Jesus
chose to be His disciples; it included fishermen.
Anyone can become a disciple and a fisher of
men; willingness to hear the voice of Jesus and
follow Him is the basic requirement. Ordinary
people turned into great soul winners. That is
what discipleship can achieve. We must
therefore not only be engaged in the preaching
of the gospel but also in the making of disciples
who can do what we are doing. The sons of
Zebedee left their boat with their father and
followed Jesus. What do you need to leave to
follow? Are you dragging a -boat of self-
righteousness that is not allowing you see how
much you need Jesus in your life? Are you
dragging a boat of self-sufficiency that is not
allowing you to see your need for a discipler over
your life? Check!

PRAYER: Father; please make me a disciple
indeed.

MESSAGE:
Some Greeks sought Jesus. Jesus had just been
hailed as the coming King and Messiah by
teeming thousands. "The world is gone after
Him" (John 12: 19). Some Greek pilgrims who
had come to attend the Passover Feast wished
to see this Jesus who was being proclaimed
King. What Jesus did was try to correct the
misunderstood idea of the Messiah held by the
world. He wanted to prepare both the Greeks
and those standing around, for His death. He
wanted to teach that the way to glory is not
through triumph and praise, neither was it
through domination and subjection but through
death to self and through service to God and
man.
The cross is the glory of the Messiah (v.23). The
cross brings forth fruit (v.24). The cross
demands man’s death to self (vs.25-26). Man
must lose his life to bear eternal life. The cross
fulfils Jesus' cause (v.27). The cross glorifies
God’s name (vs.28¬30). The cross judges the
world - the prince of the world (v.31). The cross
draws all men (vs.32-33). To dodge the cross is
to miss the crown. The way to glory is the way
of the cross. To follow Him, we must take up the
cross daily. Determine to boast in nothing save
the cross of Christ.

PRAYER: Father; please help me to carry my
cross daily; may the power of the cross and its
glory be manifested in my life.

people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and

MESSAGE:
Jesus’ ministry drew a lot of people, not simply
because He was Jesus but because His ministry
was holistic. He went about Galilee, teaching in
their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the
kingdom, and healing all kinds of sicknesses and
diseases among the people (vs.23). Jesus was
not only interested in the prosperity of their soul
and spirit but also in the prosperity of their body
(health). This was the character of Jesus’
ministry. We must also seek this kind of ministry
if we must be relevant in this generation.
However, it is important to note the underlying
motivation for Jesus’ healing of the people with
diverse kinds of diseases and illnesses. He did
not heal simply to show off His power but His
actions were motivated by a heart of
compassion and kindness towards the people.
Healing power is not limited to Jesus alone; it is
available to all believers as He promised in Mark
16: 15-18. Jesus brings complete salvation;
believers in Him must also live and preach this
full salvation. Is your preaching holistic? Are you
saved? If yes, thank Him. If not pray and receive
Him now.

PRAYER: Father, revive your Church to the
preaching of a holistic gospel that brings
complete salvation.

"1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a
mountain: and when he was set, his disciples
came unto him:
2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them,
saying,
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the
kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be
comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the
earth.
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst
after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain
mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall
see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be
called the children of God.
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for
righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you,
and persecute you, and shall say all manner of
evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is
your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they
the prophets which were before you."

MESSAGE:
The verses in our text today are part of what is
called the "Sermon on the Mount." It is
important to note that every word of the Lord
Jesus ought to be most precious to professing
Christians. The "Sermon on the Mount" reveals
to us the following: (i) What kind of people
Christians ought to be (ii) the character
Christians ought to exhibit (iii) the outward walk
and inward habit of a follower of Jesus.
It is wisdom to often study these teachings,
ponder each sentence, and prove ourselves by it.
For example, The Lord Jesus calls them blessed,
who are poor in spirit (v.3). He means the
humble, and the lowly-minded, the self-abased.
He means those who are deeply convinced of
their personal need for God. The Lord Jesus
calls them blessed, who mourn (v.4). He means
those who sorrow for sin, and grieve daily over
their own shortcomings. The Lord Jesus calls
them blessed, who are meek (v5). He means
those who are of a patient and contented spirit.
They are willing to put up with little honour here
below. They can bear injuries without
resentment. They are not ready to take offence.
Blessed are such! They are never losers in the
long run. Can you be called blessed?

PRAYER: Lord, I commit to a growing knowledge
of these principles of the life of the kingdom.

TOPIC: SALT AND LIGHT

READING: Matthew 5:13-16 King James Version
(KJV)
"13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt
have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be
salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to
be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of
men.
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is
set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it
under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it
giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they
may see your good works, and glorify your Father
which is in heaven."

MESSAGE:
In these verses, the Lord Jesus deals with the
character which true Christians must support
and maintain in the world. True Christians are to
be in the world as salt. Salt has a peculiar taste
of its own, unlike anything else. When mingled
with other substances, it preserves them from
corruption. It imparts a portion of its taste to
everything it is mixed with. It is useful so long as
it maintains its savour. True Christians are to be
in the world as light. It is the property of light to
be distinct from darkness. The least spark in a
dark room can be seen at once. Of all things
created, light is one of the most useful. Without
it, the world would be a gloomy blank. "Salt" and
"light" evidently imply peculiarity, both of heart
and life; of faith and practice.
Have we grace? Then it must be seen. Have we
the Spirit? Then there must be fruit. Have we
any saving religion? Then there must be a
difference of habits, tastes, and turn of mind,
between us and those who think only of the
world. It is perfectly clear that true Christianity is
something more than being baptised and going to
Church. We must dare to be singular and unlike
the world, if we mean to be saved.

PRAYER: Father, please help me to be the salt
and the light of the world as You desire.

TOPIC: JESUS - OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS

READING: Matthew 5:17-26 King James Version

"17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law,
or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but
to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth
pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass
from the law, till all be fulfilled.
19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these
least commandments, and shall teach men so,
he shall be called the least in the kingdom of
heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them,
the same shall be called great in the kingdom of
heaven.
20 For I say unto you, That except your
righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of
the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case
enter into the kingdom of heaven.
21 Ye have heard that it was said of them of old
time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill
shall be in danger of the judgment:
22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry
with his brother without a cause shall be in
danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say
to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the
council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall
be in danger of hell fire.
23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar,
and there rememberest that thy brother hath
ought against thee;

adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the

MESSAGE:
Jesus taught about the character, blessedness
and influence of the citizens of heaven (vs.3-16).
Here, He talks about the righteousness expected
of His disciples. He begins by correcting the
false impression that He came to abolish the
Law and the prophets. Jesus came to fulfil the
Law and to show us its meaning by His
obedience which becomes our very source of
salvation. He fulfils the Law in His death - in
which we see the reality of the Law’s demand
for holiness. He fulfils the law in us, too, by His
grace and by the Work of the Holy Spirit, through
which He writes again, God’s Law On our hearts.
He fulfils it by living the quality of life which the
Law aspired. The Law, therefore, implies far
more than the Pharisees' safe interpretations.
Man looks on the exterior, but God examines the
heart, which is often the root of sin.
Friend, no one can be righteous or be saved
through the Law but only through Christ Jesus,
who is our Saviour and righteousness. He has
fulfilled the demands of God on our behalf by His
death on the cross. When you believe Him and
put your trust and hope in Him, you will find
acceptance before God as there is no other way
of becoming righteous apart from Christ!

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, help me to daily confirm to
Your image and be clothed in Your righteousness.

THEME: A CALL TO FAITHFULNESS

MATTHEW 5:27-37
27.“You have heard that it was said to those of
old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’
28. But I say to you that whoever looks at a
woman to lust for her has already committed
adultery with her in his heart.
29. If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it
out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable
for you that one of your members perish, than for
your whole body to be cast into hell.
30. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut
it off and cast it from you; for it is more
profitable for you that one of your members
perish, than for your whole body to be cast into
hell.
31.“Furthermore it has been said, ‘Whoever
divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of
divorce.’
32. But I say to you that whoever divorces his
wife for any reason except sexual immorality
causes her to commit adultery; and whoever
marries a woman who is divorced commits
adultery.
33.“Again you have heard that it was said to
those of old, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but
shall perform your oaths to the Lord.’
34. But I say to you, do not swear at all: neither
by heaven, for it is God’s throne;
35. nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; nor
by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.
36. Nor shall you swear by your head, because
you cannot make one hair white or black.
37. But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’
‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the

GUIDE TEXT
In todays passage, Jesus speaks of the need for
faithfulness in our lives, through fulfilling our
commitments.
This is essential to God, who sometimes
measures our love for others by checking if we
have fulfilled our commitments. Jesus here talks
of our commitments to marriage and to the
promises made to one another. Being married to
a person is not itself the commitment, but
remaining sexually loyal to ones spouse in
practice and even in sexual thoughts.
Concerning promises, Jesus instructs that we
make clear promises and keep them. We should
not undermine such promises in small ways but
be faithful in every way. If we are unfaithful, we
become associated with Satan - the father of
lies.
There is no blessing for unfaithfulness, but
judgment! Think about your relationship and
commitment to God.
Are you faithfully committed to Him? What of
your commitment to your spouse, parents,
children, neighbours, fellowship and the body of
Christ? Do you destroy their precious peace, lives
and even souls, through unfaithfulness? Can
people rely on your words? When you say you will
do something, is it as good as done? Where you
have failed, there is hope in Jesus Christ hope of
salvation, of healing and restoration!
Commitment should be part of a full life, even in
uncertain situations. Keep commitments, no
matter how small, in the biggest way possible.

PRAYER: Lord, give me grace to be faithful
in my walk with You, in family life and public life

THEME: FUNCTIONAL PRAYER

MATTHEW 6:5-18
5.“And when you pray, you shall not be like the
hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the
synagogues and on the corners of the streets,
that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say
to you, they have their reward.
6. But you, when you pray, go into your room,
and when you have shut your door, pray to your
Father who is in the secret place; and your
Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
7. And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions
as the heathen do. For they think that they will
be heard for their many words.
8.“Therefore do not be like them. For your Father
knows the things you have need of before you
ask Him.
9. In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in
heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
10. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On
earth as it is in heaven.
11. Give us this day our daily bread.
12. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our
debtors.
13. And do not lead us into temptation, But
deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the
kingdom and the power and the glory forever.

GUIDE TEXT
One of the privileges we have as children of God
is prayer. Through prayer, we receive mercy and
grace to help in time of need and find peace that
guards our hearts and minds. But this privilege
does not mean that God must answer all
prayers. In todays reading, Jesus talks about two
basic kinds of prayer. The first is showmanship
prayer by which the person praying draws
attention to himself seeking to be known as
spiritual and holy.
The second is relational prayer - one that seeks
time with the Father. This prayer is offered to be
seen and heard of God according to a pattern
(as taught by Jesus) and with a merciful heart.
God answers such a prayer.
Is your prayer marked by humility and pleading
for mercy or do you make a show out of your
prayers? Do you talk with God when you pray or
you talk to yourself? Remember, God is not
swayed by quantity of words, but by quality of
the heart! Most important is the fact that if you
do not have a private prayer life, there is no good
praying publicly. If you believe that God hears
prayers and rewards those who diligently seek
Him, then make sure you offer the kind of prayer
that God is pleased with.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to pray from
a pure heart in accordance with Your will and in
faith.

THEME: HOPE IS COMING

MATTHEW 21:1-13
1. Now when they drew near Jerusalem, and
came to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then
Jesus sent two disciples,
2. saying to them, “Go into the village opposite
you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied,
and a colt with her. Loose them and bring them
to Me.
3. And if anyone says anything to you, you shall
say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and
immediately he will send them.”
4. All this was done that it might be fulfilled
which was spoken by the prophet, saying:
5.“Tell the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your King is
coming to you, Lowly, and sitting on a donkey, A
colt, the foal of a donkey.’ ”
6. So the disciples went and did as Jesus
commanded them.
7. They brought the donkey and the colt, laid
their clothes on them, and set Him on them.
8. And a very great multitude spread their
clothes on the road; others cut down branches
from the trees and spread them on the road.
9. Then the multitudes who went before and
those who followed cried out, saying: “Hosanna
to the Son of David! ‘Blessed is He who comes
in the name of the Lord !’ Hosanna in the
highest!”
10. And when He had come into Jerusalem, all
the city was moved, saying, “Who is this?”
11. So the multitudes said, “This is Jesus, the
prophet from Nazareth of Galilee.”
12. Then Jesus went into the temple of God and
drove out all those who bought and sold in the
temple, and overturned the tables of the money
changers and the seats of those who sold doves.
13. And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house
shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have
made it a ‘den of thieves.’ ”

GUIDE TEXT
When the two disciples brought the colt and the
donkey, they placed their coats and garments
upon the young colt to serve as a saddle for
Jesus. The people were all excited, hoping that
Jesus was coming to overthrow the power of
Rome and liberate them. Jesus was not coming
to destroy the Romans, but rather to deal with
the issue of sin in our lives.
His agenda is to lead us into a deeper
relationship with God, so that He might change
our lives, and we will receive that which is truly
important in life. Depending on the hope they
had, they responded to Jesus differently. One
group took off their coats and clothing and laid
them down the pathway as a royal carpet for the
animal to walk on to honour Jesus. Another cut
palm branches and laid them down as means of
honouring Jesus. A third group simply stood
alongside the road and cheered briefly and went
back to their businesses.
Today Jesus our hope for peace and eternal life
is marching into hearts. The hope you have in
Him will determine how much of your heart you
allow Him take possession of. He desires to
make every heart His home but will not force it
upon you. With Jesus in your heart, you have
hope!

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, my hope is in You.
Help me surrender wholly to You.
ITS PALM SUNDAY!

THEME: A SWORD OR A CUP?

TEXT: JOHN 18:1-18
1. When Jesus had spoken these words, He went
out with His disciples over the Brook Kidron,
where there was a garden, which He and His
disciples entered.
2. And Judas, who betrayed Him, also knew the
place; for Jesus often met there with His
disciples.
3. Then Judas, having received a detachment of
troops, and officers from the chief priests and
Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and
weapons.
4. Jesus therefore, knowing all things that would
come upon Him, went forward and said to them,
“Whom are you seeking?”
5. They answered Him, “Jesus of Nazareth.”
Jesus said to them, “I am He. ” And Judas, who
betrayed Him, also stood with them.
6. Now when He said to them, “I am He, ” they
drew back and fell to the ground.
7. Then He asked them again, “Whom are you
seeking?” And they said, “Jesus of Nazareth.”
8. Jesus answered, “I have told you that I am
He. Therefore, if you seek Me, let these go their
way,”
9. that the saying might be fulfilled which He
spoke, “Of those whom You gave Me I have lost
none.”
10. Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it
and struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off
his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.
11. So Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword into
the sheath. Shall I not drink the cup which My
Father has given Me?”
12. Then the detachment of troops and the
captain and the officers of the Jews arrested
Jesus and bound Him.
13. And they led Him away to Annas first, for he
was the father-in-law of Caiaphas who was high
priest that year.
14. Now it was Caiaphas who advised the Jews
that it was expedient that one man should die for
the people.
15. And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did
another disciple. Now that disciple was known to
the high priest, and went with Jesus into the
courtyard of the high priest.
16. But Peter stood at the door outside. Then
the other disciple, who was known to the high
priest, went out and spoke to her who kept the
door, and brought Peter in.
17. Then the servant girl who kept the door said
to Peter, “You are not also one of this Man’s
disciples, are you?” He said, “I am not.”
18. Now the servants and officers who had made
a fire of coals stood there, for it was cold, and
they warmed themselves. And Peter stood with
them and warmed himself.

GUIDE TEXT
Jesus crossed the Kidron, fully conscious that
Judas would betray Him, and went to
Gethsemane to surrender to the Fathers will. His
disciples had affirmed their devotion to Him and
Peter here, proved it by drawing his sword for a
fight.
Jesus said to him, "Put your sword away! Shall I
not drink the cup the Father has given me?"
Peter had a sword in his hand (symbolizing
rebellion against the will of God) but Jesus had
a cup to drink (symbolizing suffering and His
submission to it). Peter was resisting Gods will
and hindering the work that Jesus came to
accomplish, but Jesus was submitting to it.
Peter made mistakes, used the wrong approach/
weapons and accomplished the wrong result! He
was sincere, but sincerely wrong, perhaps due to
his prayerlessness. Remember Jesus had asked
them to pray with Him but instead, they slept.
What is in your hand today a sword, or a cup?
You may not have a physical sword but that of
intellect, wealth, wisdom, resources, power,
certificates, position, strength, etc. Do you use
them to oppose and struggle against the work
and will of the Lord? Like Jesus, you must learn
to submit to the will of God for your life, using
everything you possess. The surest way of doing
so is through prayers!,

PRAYER: Father, help me to stop
struggling against Your will but to be submissive
to show forth Your glory.

THEME: CHOOSE LIFE

JOHN 18:28-40
28. Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the
Praetorium, and it was early morning. But they
themselves did not go into the Praetorium, lest
they should be defiled, but that they might eat
the Passover.
29. Pilate then went out to them and said, “What
accusation do you bring against this Man?”
30. They answered and said to him, “If He were
not an evildoer, we would not have delivered Him
up to you.”
31. Then Pilate said to them, “You take Him and
judge Him according to your law.” Therefore the
Jews said to him, “It is not lawful for us to put
anyone to death,”
32. that the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled
which He spoke, signifying by what death He
would die.
33. Then Pilate entered the Praetorium again,
called Jesus, and said to Him, “Are You the King
of the Jews?”
34. Jesus answered him, “Are you speaking for
yourself about this, or did others tell you this
concerning Me?”
35. Pilate answered, “Am I a Jew? Your own
nation and the chief priests have delivered You
to me. What have You done?”
36. Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this
world. If My kingdom were of this world, My
servants would fight, so that I should not be
delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is
not from here.”
37. Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king
then?” Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I
am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this
cause I have come into the world, that I should
bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the
truth hears My voice.”
38. Pilate said to Him, “What is truth?” And when
he had said this, he went out again to the Jews,
and said to them, “I find no fault in Him at all.
39.“But you have a custom that I should release
someone to you at the Passover. Do you
therefore want me to release to you the King of
the Jews?”
40. Then they all cried again, saying, “Not this
Man, but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a
robber.

GUIDE TEXT
Jesus was taken from the Garden of
Gethsemane to Annas and then to Caiaphas
where selected members of the Sanhedrin
gathered. False witnesses came forward to
testify against Him. During the examination, no
evidence was found against Him. But instead of
dismissing Him, they proceeded to hold an illegal
court where they condemned Jesus to death on
the charge of blasphemy. They took Him to
Pilate - the Roman governor where they changed
their charge against Jesus from blasphemy to
treason! Pilate examined Him and attempted to
release Him because he knew that He was
innocent, but the people pushed for His death.
When given the opportunity to choose whom he
should release to them, the Jews chose
Barabbas a notorious prisoner, a robber, a rebel,
a murderer! They chose to have a murderer and
robber live among them than Jesus, the giver of
life. Barabbas was set free but the King of glory
was sentenced to die!
Today, the choice before us is the choice
between eternal life and eternal death. Jesus
offers eternal life but the world and its pleasures
offer eternal death. You have a choice today.
Choose Jesus Christ and you will reign eternally
with Him in heaven. This choice begins with a
humble confession of your sin and invitation of
Christ into your life!

PRAYER: Eternal God, give me grace to
choose Christ today over and above all others.

EVERYTHING IS COMPLETE

JOHN 19:12-30
12. From then on Pilate sought to release Him,
but the Jews cried out, saying, “If you let this
Man go, you are not Caesar’s friend. Whoever
makes himself a king speaks against Caesar.”
13. When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he
brought Jesus out and sat down in the judgment
seat in a place that is called The Pavement, but
in Hebrew, Gabbatha.
14. Now it was the Preparation Day of the
Passover, and about the sixth hour. And he said
to the Jews, “Behold your King!”
15. But they cried out, “Away with Him, away
with Him! Crucify Him!” Pilate said to them,
“Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests
answered, “We have no king but Caesar!”
16. Then he delivered Him to them to be
crucified. So they took Jesus and led Him away.
17. And He, bearing His cross, went out to a
place called the Place of a Skull, which is called
in Hebrew, Golgotha,
18. where they crucified Him, and two others
with Him, one on either side, and Jesus in the
center.
19. Now Pilate wrote a title and put it on the
cross. And the writing was: JESUS OF
NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.
20. Then many of the Jews read this title, for the
place where Jesus was crucified was near the
city; and it was written in Hebrew, Greek, and
Latin.
21. Therefore the chief priests of the Jews said
to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘The King of the Jews,’
but, ‘He said, “I am the King of the Jews.” ’ ”
22. Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have
written.”
23. Then the soldiers, when they had crucified
Jesus, took His garments and made four parts,
to each soldier a part, and also the tunic. Now
the tunic was without seam, woven from the top
in one piece.
24. They said therefore among themselves, “Let
us not tear it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall
be,” that the Scripture might be fulfilled which
says: “They divided My garments among them,
And for My clothing they cast lots.” Therefore
the soldiers did these things.
25. Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His
mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of
Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.
26. When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and
the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said
to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!”
27. Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your
mother!” And from that hour that disciple took
her to his own home.
28. After this, Jesus, knowing that all things
were now accomplished, that the Scripture might
be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!”
29. Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting
there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine,
put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth.
30. So when Jesus had received the sour wine,

Pilate was convinced of the innocence of Jesus
and sought to release Him instead of yielding to
the malice and envy of the people. But the Jews
insisted! Pilate did not want to lose the favour of
Caesar or be considered unfaithful, so he
delivered Jesus into their hands. They took
Jesus away and crucified Him. When He asked
for water, they soaked a sponge in vinegar and
gave Him. Jesus looked up to heaven and cried,
It is finished. By this, Jesus is saying that His
job of saving the world has been completed. His
sacrifice was not only perfect but acceptable to
God.
Sin has a devastating effect of separating us
from God. Jesus had to deal with sin and restore
our relationship with God so we can have hope
of heaven. He died on the cross to get rid of the
power of sin. By His death, He reconciled us to
God, paid the price of sin in full cancelled all
debts, procured complete peace, pardon and
forgiveness for us. He has finished the task and
nothing else needs to be done or added to what
has been done. Salvation is complete. All that is
needed of you is to believe in the Lord Jesus
Christ and you will be saved. Have you believed?

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, Your death has given
me hope of life forever. Help me to believe You
with all my heart.
