NERC to begin mass metering on May 1

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission will begin mass metering for electricity consumers by May 1, to bridge the metering gaps in the country.

Dr Usman Arabi, NERC General Manager Public Affairs in a statement said the metering will be executed under the Meter Asset Providers programme of the Federal Government.

“The commission issued permits to MAPs on April 5, in accordance with section 4(3) of the MAP Regulations 2018, to MAPs that were successful in the procurements.

“The procurement was conducted by Abuja Electricity Distribution Company PLC and Jos Electricity Distribution Company PLC.

“Section 4(3) of the MAP Regulation 2018 requires all electricity distribution licensees to engage MAPs that would assist, as investors, in closing the metering gap.

Buhari should employ his military spirit and enforce this. Many nigerians will be happy for it.

At least, If i recharge and Criminal Emeka Offor's EEDC Refuses to give me light, It is totally their business than now i hardly see light and yet i Pay between 4000-5000 monthly

That great news...

But the bad news is that those of us enjoying prepared may start paying N10,000 for monthly subscription instead N5000 for 3 months we are currently enjoying..

Let's hope they don't frustrate their efforts because it seems they like estimated billing that's why they don't aways have meter
Re: NERC To Begin Mass Metering On May 1 by NotBeenPaid: 11:17pm On Apr 06, 2019

The meters are available but those linemen no gree give us the meter because they make their money from estimated billings, by the time them hammer you with estimated bill and you no gree pay, piam them go just disconnect you.

Long overdue.

But we want less chinko meters in this country. Very fragile devices.

Many people would receive sense by force with prepaid meters, cry water pumps, AC, blender, microwave might make you wish estimated billing was forever. Unless your electrician helps you bypass some electronics

“MAPs shall charge a maximum of N36,991.50 for single-phase meters and N67,055.85 for three-phase meters.

The prices aren't bad. Its a one time purchase so people should be willing to buy it. Hopefully the MAPs won't have more excuses afterwards.

Problem with solar currently is that its too expensive for the average Nigerian. You people need to make it more affordable and you will sell even more.

Hope the new meters will be free. If not, it's not going to excite the masses much, and rightly so.

Lol. It is currently free. So, why should anyone suddenly start charging for it in May? Why should they suddenly slap a fee on it? What innovation was suddenly made in it that would warrant it to be free in April and then 36,000/67,000 in May?

Even parents are expected to provide for children when they are still too young to fend for themselves. That's what a responsible parent would do when their kids are still young. smiley

Affirmative action is needed here.

You're service is free and completely sucks. The past half decade people are complaining about not getting their free meter. The other fact is government and companies dont give anything for free. You either pay on front or back end through taxes or fees they spread out.

I'll leave it to you to decide how do you wish to pay for these items. All I would demand is no excuses after payment.
