My advice to all: prepare well and pray, but do not put all your heart to it, so you won't feel the disappointment.

Assume the time it takes both X and Y to produce 1000 bolts is k hrs.

Let’s go,

if it takes X 4 hrs to produce 1000 bolts,
then bolts produced in 1 hr = 1000/4 = 250 bolts.

if it takes Y 5 hrs to produce 1000 bolts,
then bolts produced in 1 hr = 1000/5 = 200 bolts.

How many will X and Y produce in k hrs?

In k hrs:
X will produce 250 times k = 250k bolts (if you can consume 2 eggs in 1 hr, in k hrs you will consume 2k eggs �)

Y will produce 200k bolts.

We already know that X and Y will produce 1000 bolts (our very first assumption)

But the sum of the individual works done by X and Y must be equal to the work done by both.

I tried this and obtained approximately 2hrs.
Solution:
Rate of bolt production for Machine x = 1000/4 =250blts per hour
Rate of bolt production for machine y = 1000/5= 200bolts/hr

AVERAGE BOLT PRODUCTION =[225+250]/2=225bolts/hr
Hours required for X ND Y to produce bolt = 1000\(225*2) =2hours 2mins.

Iam sorry I disagrree with the usage"extra intelligence " it waa his destiny to work there and also mind you federal character played a major part.So don't make others feel they were not intelligent thats why they didn't get ..others might have performed way better but he probably had one of the highest in his local govt/ state .that's all
