Solution :
Time taken by the bus to reach destination :
Using the relation, Speed =distance /time
Speed of bus given =18mph
Distance=27miles
Time =?
Therefore, time taken=1.5hrs,arriving at 9:30am
Since, the bus spent 30min at the destination, it took off back to the bus stand at 10.00am
When returning, travels at 50% speed means :
Speed =9mph
Distance= still 27miles
Time= Will be 3hrs
Finally, since it took off back to the bus stand at 10.am, it would arrive at 1.00pm.

Neatly done, Good job

Solutions

The bus started at 8am from the bus stand
On getting to it destination, it spent 30mins

So, let's calculate d time it spent on getting to its destination:
Distance to its destination= 27miles
Speed of the bus= 18mph
time?
using d formula:
Speed= distance/time

time= distance/speed
T=27miles/18miles per hr
T= 1.5hr
convert to minutes
T= 1.5*60= 90mins
T= 1hr 30mins
So it spent 1hr 30mins to its destination. then u add it to the 8am. (8am + 1hr 30mins) 9:30 am

So it reaches to its destination at 9:30am

On getting to its destination, it spent 30mins b4 taken off. so, 9:30am + 30 mins = 10am

So it left its destination at 10am

On returning to its stand, it speed increases by 50%
So returning increasing speed= 50/100*18mph= 9mph

New speed= 9mph + 18mph= 27mph

Distance = 27miles
time?
time= distance/speed
T=27miles/27mph
T= 1hr

it spent 1hr to get back 2 its stand

Time it reaches back 2 its stand=time it left its destination + time it spent 2 get back 2 its stand

Time = 10am + 1hr = 11am.

Ans= A. 11am

I might not agree with you at bolded, even tho they equally chose 11AM. The question doesn't say 50% increase in speed neither does it say 50% faster, it just indicated that it was 50% fast. I want to believe there's difference between fast and faster. Maybe I was the one misrepresenting thiss, I need someone to correct me

50% fast speed.. what does it mean then??

Moving from 18mph- 9mph as u solved it..
is that a fast speed or a slow speed?

Take it or leave it, that's the answer bro

18MPH is assumed to be a full speed (100%), and of course a 50% fast speed will be 9MPH. I dont understand why you still had to add,

Let's take this as an example;

You were earning $10,000 as your salary last year. This year, the salary moved by 50% fast.. What's your salary this year?

Oga Ilyas 50% fast speed is simply moving at half the speed simple, the answer is C, 1pm

Lol, you are actually decreasing the speed then instead of increasing...you are telling me now that 9mph is much than 18mph.. If a speed fast than it original travels speed, then the actual speed=the original travels speed + percentage increase (fast)* original travel speed .....Iliyassdass is very much correct.

U need to understand that that question never mentioned a 50% increase in speed, rather, it says at a speed of 50%. Which means, 50% speed used to travel while going...aside from that, Common sense will tell you much that when going to a destination, much speed is required than when returning back.

That's a fallacy, why did you jump into conclusion that returning speed is lesser than traveling speed? I drive faster while returning bro.

it says 50% fast....not faster...50% fast is the same thing as saying 50% as fast....which is the same as saying 50% slower. Looking at it from a real life angle...if someone says "that car is going 50% fast" and not "faster" i would know the person is probably trying to communicate the car is going slower or not to its full capabilities.

Its inevitable that we will always have specials candidates in Nigeria and there is nothing you and I can do about it .Even if they have 60% set aside for them there is nothing anyone can do about it.
Keep this irrelevant talk aside and concentrate on passing .May God be with all applicants

Solutions

The bus started at 8am from the bus stand
On getting to it destination, it spent 30mins

So, let's calculate d time it spent on getting to its destination:
Distance to its destination= 27miles
Speed of the bus= 18mph
time?
using d formula:
Speed= distance/time

time= distance/speed
T=27miles/18miles per hr
T= 1.5hr
convert to minutes
T= 1.5*60= 90mins
T= 1hr 30mins
So it spent 1hr 30mins to its destination. then u add it to the 8am. (8am + 1hr 30mins) 9:30 am

So it reaches to its destination at 9:30am

On getting to its destination, it spent 30mins b4 taken off. so, 9:30am + 30 mins = 10am

So it left its destination at 10am

On returning to its stand, it speed increases by 50%(50% fast speed);
So returning increasing speed= 50/100*18mph= 9mph

New speed= 9mph + 18mph= 27mph
Distance = 27miles
time?
time= distance/speed
T=27miles/27mph
T= 1hr

it spent 1hr to get back 2 its stand

Time it reaches back 2 its stand=time it left its destination + time it spent 2 get back 2 its stand

Time = 10am + 1hr = 11am.

Ans= A. 11am

This is very explicit and correct. Thanks for teaching me. You made the solving so easy to understand
