There's a sought of excitement seeing your characters make out.
It is told that the reason for the many obscene scenes was to cause controversies and get lot more views and critique (this was very effective for the first season, I guess it still applies). It works perfectly

because the producers feel sex sells. On the contrary, GOT is successful because of the story line
