Sometimes, it's more complicated than you say. Home pressure. Maybe his parents have put undue pressure and he just couldn't face them. Parenting also needs to be addressed. Nothing wrong in falling down. I was in Ife. I had an extra and I found it hilarious. It was even a badge of honour. But homes are different. People too can be different. I wriggled through it and managed the home front.
.
Your point is quite palatable but is it worth the suicidal mission, after all those years?

To be sincere the depression is real. This is exactly what I'm facing, though have been trying not to think of it and get over it through prayers. My guys are at home balling but am in school tryna to figure it out not to re-register the course.
May God help me!

How can u value a certificate than ur life. Certificate wey I never use since I graduated and have been doing pretty well with my learnt vocation and business. He has a shallow orientation. I pray God grant his family the fortitude to bear the loss.
Can someone that committed suicide Rest in Peace?

Another worthy life terminated over a worthless course. Before thinking of killing himself he ought to have asked those that had the certificate even the first class students what their certificate has fetched them. Would he not have been better if he had simply dropped out.
RIP to him all the same. May his parents and loved ones be consoled

Nigeria education system is so flawed! I remember the blood pressure I have today is due to the pressure of make or break situation I found myself during my extra years days at the university. Funny thing I’ve never for once made a kobo with that certificate and the sickness is still something I battle till date at a young age.

But thank God I’m fûcking the commas up now!

While some students were busy enjoying the Easter period, news filled the air about an OAU Student pulling the plug over poor academic performance.

The deceased, Kolapo Olowoporoku was a student of Computer Science and also the former financial secretary of the students’ association.

It was gathered that he should have graduated in the 2016/2017 academic session but he remained on campus due to some outstanding courses (CVE & CSC 517) he had to pass before he graduated.

Kolapo Olowoporoku with Facebook username "Olowoporoku kay-pee Kolapo" was the class rep of his class and ought to have undergone the compulsory NYSC service currently with his course mates who had their convocation last year.

The deceased took his outstanding courses in the last academic session 2017/2018 but it was gathered that he didn’t get up to the required pass mark to bid the said courses farewell.

It was gathered that people who saw him confirmed he looked depressed but no one knew exactly what went wrong with the him.

He was said to have resorted to taking poison on Monday, but the poison didn’t kill him until 3 to 4 days after.

Kolapo Olowoporoku thereafter died on Friday, 19th of April.

May his gentle soul Rest in peace and God grant his family and loved one’s strength to bear the loss.

Very unfortunate. In a country where success is attached to certificate.
But failure is not the end. It only teaches that one should prepare more.
However,in such circumstances like this, lecturers should be magnanimous to give a pass mark.it is not a pride to give a student extra year because of your course only. Learn to just let go. Not everybody can handle failure in a beneficial way

No, don't subscribe to being euphemistic over sb who allegedly took his own life. He was sure it was the right thing to do before doing it..
.
To avoid mere shame of retaking the exams, perhaps with his juniors, the opted in for ok'ing his life goodbye and sending cold shivers to the spine of those loved ones of his.

Does this kind of retard deserve sympathy? He chose death over a mere spill over! Did he ever know that once there's life, there' hope?
.
We've heard of stories of people who died in accidents seconds after their POP. This dummy had to spill his life over the neither world because of a mere course spill-over.

People like you are what pushed him to do what he did, the problem is not that you're wrong but ask yourself is it appropriate at this moment to say this, imagine for every mistake he makes people react like this, please change

Reminds me of Joy Lobo who wrote "I Quit" on the wall and took his own life in 3 Idiots. The school authorities, especially the sadist of them should be questioned and possibly brought to book if they advertently frustrated the guy's efforts to graduate. So sad.

School is overrated in this part of the world. Why will a young man like this commits suicide if not for his mentality that believe without school he can achieve his dreams.

People with dreams and visions can not commits suicide, when you are face with difficulty know that people have gone through that and come out successful.

Life is a stage, you must progress to see the other stages.

I know how is feel being depressed, I was supposed to graduate last year and serve this year. But unknown to me that a GST course I wrote in my 100 level was missing. From 100 level to 400, I have no carry over and in my results on that particular course I was seeing I score B until I got a call from course adviser telling me that my GST 112 was missing when they were collating all the results before they will submit it to senate. I went to GST department and did everything possible to get the missing result but all to no avail. I was depressed because I didn't know how to tell my family the bad news. They believe I was brilliant and why will I have to wait another year because of a mistake by my department. Till now I have not been able to tell them.

The truth is you don't value what you have until you loss it. You will not value life until you loss it.

Suicide is not the way, it might look impossible now but years to come you will look at that problem and laugh.

I am writing this for those who are depressed and who think is over for them but remember is not over until God say is over.
I have been having depressions for the past 10years. I could have committed suicide, but knowing that my name will forever be damaged, and also the very people around me who could have helped me in my difficult moments making jests or showing hypocritical sympathy on my dead body scares me. My body may not feel any pains, but I imagine my spirit feeling real pains. #suicideisano. I die living.

Speaking from experience, I also had two extra years in that same OAU before I graduated. Trust me the psychological burden is enormous so I understand how he felt . But suicide was never and should never be an option.
Unfortunately, a school like OAU don't have dedicated counsellors who ought to deal with students with extras to put them in the right shape of mind. In fact I know a lecturer who told a student to leave school and hawk because he had an extra.

For me with God and personal conviction I fought it and finally graduated and to God be the glory I got a job even before service with out even writing a CV I also served in a Governors office and was even offered a Government appointment after service together with the one I always had. Today I even recommend my mates who graduated 3 years before me.

So suicide is never the option no matter what.

he was a coward by taking his life.. he must have been this quiet guy that doesn't talk or share his pains or problems. by taking his life he can't face challenges even if he had been saved. countless number of people had passed through this phase of carry overs or spills and they bounce back to life. who NYSC helped. who certificate help unless you are connectedin in Nigeria to secure a job. so many grads roaming about the streets with pali but no show. I just pity his parents that will be in so pained. carry over no be end of life. getting your asses up and move on... it's only a phase. that could have even ginger him more to achieve his dreams. but he lost hope and die.
