Hi guys your opinion is needed.

My friend went for his F1 visa interview at Abuja on Thursday last week. He was given the white paper but they held on to his bank statement that they need to verify it which he agreed to.

He got a mail today that his visa was denied which I have attached the letter below, and also on the visa web page its showing refused.

His account statement is 100% its his Dad personal account and the money Is still intact till date.

What could be wrong? And pls check if he received any ban. Thanks

It doesnt have to do with the SOA. He was refused cos he didnt show enough strong ties in Nigeria and he was not banned.

Okay, I have read all the brilliant and intelligent discussions going on here but I think it’s high time we understood the logic behind this. Although we all know that individual brilliance and luck play a part in getting a good job after an MBA program irrespective of the school but the truth must be told, this can only happen once in every ten. Graduates from top business schools stand a better chance than the folks from the low ranked ones. If you are looking to pursue a career in management consulting then attending a top 10 MBA program is a must.

Does the school you go to decide your fate? Absolutely yes! In fact, the school you attend has a significant role to play in the type of opportunities that come your way. It’s a no brainer! Certain consulting firms recruit from specific schools and the greater the number of firms that recruit from your school, the greater your chances of getting into one. Also, the top schools have developed a good networking relationship with their alumni and these people would always come back to recruit candidates from their Alma Maters.

I share the same view with bracelum. I think he speaks from the perspective of an employer and a job market analyst. He’s very blunt and he has been honest about it. If you are planning to go for an MBA, it’s important to target top schools so as to stand a BETTER chance of getting a good job after studies, and most especially if you are planning to take up a loan. This does not mean that attending a top 10 MBA programs automatically cross the ts and dot the is for you, but then having it on your CV gives an added advantage in the job market.

Perfect summary!

Okay. What advice would you give me? I am an MBA prospective. I'd like to become Alibaba of Nigeria, you know? grin
I would like you to advice me on best academic plans to make. You're the guru in this field now.

An MBA is not the best route to entrepreneurship. Consider one of the numerous startup incubators such as Y Combinator and Thiel Foundation.

Management and entrepreneurship are two different things.

I think guys need to understand this guy's point of view. He does not sound like he knows it all but he is trying to give a guide on which path to follow. One can leave situations to luck when one finds oneself in it not when one is just planning. When you are planning, you should plan to get the best. Prospective applicants should try to target top schools to stand a better chance of making it faster and pay up if on loan. That is not saying whoever doesn't attend top schools does not stand a chance to make it. He is only giving advice, anyone can choose to follow or ignore. I appreciate everybody's input. You guys are the best.

Wonderful summary! You just hit the nail on the head. Key insights from your post;

1. Don't put yourself in the situation of luck when you are still in the planning stage. At this stage, you have the opportunity of maximizing your return.

2. If you are taking a loan, take the loan to the best school you can get to. If you are putting yourself in debt, try as much as you can to get into the best school possible.

3. If you can't get into a top ranked MBA, then consider fully funded opportunities instead of taking loans to a lowly-ranked school. This is exactly what I was trying to explain to the Babson College guy.

4. Attending a top school doesn't automatically make you successful in life. But you have significant opportunities over others and if you use these opportunities well, you will be successful.

5. Attending a lowly ranked school doesn't make you a loser. Some successful people did not even attend college.

6. Once you are still at the planning stage (GRE, SOP), try to shoot for the stars.

Its always painful when this happens.... .. but most times only someone who works inside the embassy will know the real reason. This letter is their generic letter so doesn't really provide insight . There is no ban as bans are clearly stated

I have always wondered what i would do if this was me.. i think as long as i am 100 percent sure of the account. I would book an appointment and go again. If nothing at all but to get some feedback into what might have been the problem

This is not a ban. A good way to assess his application to determine possible cause of later refusal would be to see what he filled on his DSFORM, which he may share a copy with me or anyone he can confide in on this thread. Nobody can say exactly what could have gone wrong. I have only seen a case like this after AP on a student visa, and a B1/B2 visa application of a close brother last two years.

Other possible reason could be:
1. If his sponsor dump large sum of money in the account (to boost balance), especially amount that has not been deposited in the account in the last 5 months of the account transaction inflow (this automatically raise alarm that the sponsor does not really have the funds, but package for visa purpose).
2. If there is a fake stamp or visa on the passport
3. God knows angry

If none of these is the case, he can reapply. He can still get his visa.

Bracelum is absolutely right. You don't go and get yourself into close to 150k USD debt because of a BS business school. What is your purpose or goal of getting an MBA? You might as well go to Lagos Business School or even UNILAG, if you are not sure of the reasons for going for an MBA.

Top 20 schools in US, top 5 in UK, top 10 in the whole of Europe, top 2 in Canada, maybe one or two in Australia should be your target if you want to get into top Investment Banks and consulting firms.

You need to to be wise in your decisions and dealings.

BCG has a mentorship/scholarship program for year 1 MBA students in North America, please find below list of schools they are focusing on. Am sure it's the same for McKinsey and Bain & Co. In Europe, these guys target grads from LBS and INSEAD. Hard to see someone from non target schools get into these firms.

This is applicable to Investment Banking too.

McKinsey has a similar program and it is limited to top 20 b schools

McKinsey does not conduct on-campus MBA recruitment for schools outside the top 20. The cut off for Bain and BCG is around the top 25 mark.

If you study outside those schools, you have to rely solely on online applications.

So, if you want to join any of those top three consulting firms at MBA level, attending a top 20 MBA increases your chances by 90%.

I sent you an email.........please check. I need the mock!

texrem:
Shoutout to those who got visa already! Shoutout to those awaiting visa interview with positive attitude of having the visa already!

Well, visa interview should not be taken lightly. There's a saying that says whoever that fail to plan will inevitably plan to fail. You have seen a lot of testimonies that carries my moniker. No be me do am ooooooo.. Ngwam! God just use me to help them improve their weak point and make necessary corrections. Forget, the issue of going to a community college or university. If you prove your studentship, you will get the visa. It has happened on this thread, irrespective of your age (Its rare tho). But, believe in yourself and your God. there's Luck and there's God, whichever way you wanna put it. But as for me and my household, we believe in God almighty. Preparation is the key. Confident skyhigh. I am telling you as you prepare for your interview, have in your mind and digest this few points;

1. Be prepared for it. read, read and read. rehearse and rehearse, but not too much that you will sound rehearsed on the interview day and blow your chances like balloon. This VO are psychologists. They will scrutinize you and walk through you mind until you gbagaaan! But if you re prepared. No shaking! shoutout to 2baba

2. First impression matters. You go there with a strong face as if your village people dey follow you. You will get a strong impression from the VO back (You know what i mean). But let me tell you, no matter the scenario surrounding the interview proper, if na strong or cool, Our God is an awesome God. Nobody can stop you!

3. Maintain Eye contact. Eye contact passes a strong message of confidence. I look the lady as if dem born us together. Na wetin make me like girls be that (Na joke ooo) cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy grin grin grin

4. Be respectful! Those oyinbo sabi your culture! Be humble!

5. Mind your own business. Don't feel dejected because someone was denied right in front of you. Una no pay visa fees together. You guys dont have the same surname. Carry your cross!

6. Smile intermittently during the course of the interview!

7. Even if you're denied. Refire! don't be weighed down, dejected or lost because of a single failure! I failed 3 times! (See me bouncing today)

8. Give love and you will get love back!

9. Hit me up for mock!

10. I am heading to bed!

Wish all 2019 visa hopeful all the best! Go and make me proud! cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy

Happy Easter to you all. Miss the Family! grin grin grin grin

Guess you are not reading the writing on the wall. Anyone who says this isn't willing to be a sponsor and is not helpful in my opinion. You can't tell a VO to look up your sponsor's account as that doesn't show consent and I do not think the embassy has access to bank accounts.
For me I have 3 friends in USA are got student visa, and they said at the interview they didn’t ask them for bank statement,Most times they believe the school you applied for already checked the statement to be sure you have funds. So you can try ur luck for the interview.
