Kogi govt owing workers 38 months salaries – NLC

Nigeria Labour Congress on Thursday said it was sad that in spite of the over N200 billion so far collected as monthly allocations and several bailouts and loan collected, Kogi State government is still owing workers between 8 – 38 months salary arrears.

NLC said owing to this development, workers in the state had been acutely battered and reduced to mere skeleton walking the street without hope or succour.
The NLC chairman made this declaration in Lokoja during the 7thQuadrennial State Congress held at the Kafas Multipurpose hall.

The oganised labour said due to the non-payment of salaries, the workers had been turned to beggars with some suffering from various ailments which had resulted in several deaths.

The worst hit among the workers, NLC said was the local government staff some of who were owed over 52 months salaries arrears while those paid were paid in miserable percentages while some pensioners were also dying in hunger and starvation.

The organised labour pleaded with the state government to make a monthly payment of salaries a priority.

It appealed to President Muhammad Buhari to intervene in the release of the second batch of the N30. 8 billion bailout fund to the state government to enable payment of salary arrears.

It was observed that all the union leaders were returned unopposed for the second term with the state chairman Onu Edoka retaining his position

Yahaya Bello is a scam. It is now so glaring that APC will not give him their ticket because such will lead to a smooth sail to any party that put forward a credible candidate.

Ayam not understanding.

I have got 2 questions.

Queston 1: Is it some arrears in allowances that is being owed or is it the main salary, as in the entire monthly take home pay that is being owed?

Question 2: Is it really possible for a governor to have the money for salaries stashed in the bank, and still deliberately refuse to pay workers for 3 years? As in can any human being do that?

I do not believe it, something is amiss somewhere.

GYB, at first, I thought he was an organized individual who does his things one after the other, but he's rather the opposite! When he was newly elected, GYB organized a screening to every individual worker in various collection of field, though he highlighted and apprehended some ghost workers and fake result holders, that's commendable! The next step we expected was payment of salary for those worker who are valid during the screening exercise, it has been 4years counting now, GYB devalued my people's life and health.
Hence, there is one thing eating Kogi people up "Tribalism", though it is applicable to every single househood in the state, which is not supposed to be. I won't be in aback if his so called Ebiras will vote for him, but their vote is nothing compared to Okun, not to talk of Igala.

I honestly think Nigerian Labour Congress should have long been dissolved.
If it were an entity functioning properly, no state government will be bold enough to owe its workers more than 2months salaries

I think I also would need answers to these questions. I still find it hard to believe that a government would owe its workers for 3years and heads are yet to roll.
