Producers run the show. they source for money to make the film and employ everyone else from Director to the Main Cast. an Executive Producer is the owner of the movie and he makes all decisions.and his word is final.if he doesnt like a scene its out.if he doeant like a song its out.if he doesnt like an actor that actor is out. he is the absolute top guy at the movie project. he gets consulted on everything and no decision is taken apart from him.
but his main work is in bringing together the resources to make the movie happen. if a movie was a business, think of a Producer as the Sponsor or an Investor. although he works behind the scenes he has ultimate power.his word is above that of the Director.
to be a Producer you must be a good fund raiser, good at spotting talent (actors,writers and directors) and you must know the Law very well coz you will be organizing scene locations, requesting road closures for specific scenes etc in tandem with location scouts. you must know the Law also so you will get songs cleared for use as soundtrack for the movie and also be generally informed coz when a movie is sued for anything its your arse thats first in line.
a Producer is that one man who can make a movie by himself but goes out and gets people more talented than him to make it happen.
