EzegeNG:
The South-east Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 arrested 37 suspected internet fraudsters in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

The arrest followed a raid on some targetedresidences in Okwu Urata, Aladinma and Egbu areas. The Commission’s actionfollowed intelligence report which pointed that the suspects were living lavish lifestyles without any known means of livelihood, alleging further that they specialize in defrauding unsuspecting victims, through the internet.

In the course of executing the search warrants, items which included laptop computers, 25 five exotic cars, which include several brands of Mercedez-Benz, Lexus,Toyota and expensive mobile phones, were recovered.

Speaking on the development, the ZonalHead, Usman Imam, who said the exercise was in line with the Commission’s mandate decried the high rate of cybercrime in the zone which he blamed on the erosion and breakdown  of  country’s values.

“It is true that no society has been able to totally eradicate crime, but we are ready at least to reduce it to the barest minimum and it appears that this cybercrime is one of the challenges of our time, which the EFCC is willing to face drastically,” Imam said.

Questioning the lifestyle of the suspects, Iman said; “What is the business of a university student, a new graduate or youth corper looking for money to buy a car of N10 million? Obviously, this is rushing life and a collapse of our positive value system where people rarely want to start from a humble beginning,” Imamadded.

Usman lamented that if nothing was done, the country’s leadership could be jeopardized as many youths involved in cybercrimes are expected to take up leadership positions in the future.

The suspects who volunteered their statements under caution will be charged to court as soon investigations into the matter are concluded.

Did I just see the word "recovered"?
In hells name this guys are not armed robbers, neither was their any concrete evidence to nail them! Anyone can own a laptop, own exotic cars and lead lavish lifestyle. These doesn't make you a yahooboy and shouldn't be a criteria for identifying G. Boys!
So long as they possess valid receipt of purchased goods and services, it remains their property legally!

What I see here is simply a play on the ignorance of the laws and right of these folks. Get a lawyer and sue for those decorated fools for defamation of character and assault!

Nonsense

I wonder the kind of country we'll leave for our children .

A country where 60% of the mothers have their nudes on social media. . .

A country where 50% of the men are affiliated to a secret cult?

A country where divorce is a norm and children are left without homes?

A country where our children become internet fraudsters. . .because "that is daddies legacy"?

We as youths really need to have a rethink and plan for the future we want for the children we'll have.

History is a wicked mistress, she doesn't forget.

Else, the generation of the future will not forgive us. . .

We should be scared because the coming generation have zero chill. . .

They WILL do to us what we never had the balls to do to these men who sold our future since we were babies. . .

Stay woke ----

We overestimate what we can accomplish in One year, and underestimate what we can accomplish in Ten years.

You omitted to mention the fact that there is an aspect of Nigeria's social life supplying the young and impressionable with unending motivation to materialism and idolization of life of ease and comfort.
Blame Nigeria's entertainment industry, especially hip hop people for corrupting the values of existence, and for inciting the insecure youths of this country to dissolute damnation.
It is hip hop people that glorify and glamorize money, fame, cars, glitz, sexual recklessness, nudity, drugs, gangsterism, cultism, coarse language, etc, etc.
They constitute an emerging threat that only people with discerning mind can readily see.

The useless government here only fights actual crimes.
They are so dense in the head not to see the subtle crimes committed by hip hop people in the subliminal sphere of the mind. Watch Nigerian hip hop videos, and you will agree with me that most of these people are hellbent on making money at the expense of societal values. They promote all kinds of aberrations with their music and their private lifestyle.
They have in recent times mounted some serious attack against the family institution with their "baby-mama" nonsense

A society that subtly supplies the young with constant and fresh incitement to crime and antisocial behaviour through failure to moderate and regulate the output of its entertainment industry and social media should be ready to reap the bitter fruits of it's collective laxity of vigilance.

You are right.

But what do you do??

Will the Censorship board ever grow some balls??

Not when the industry is funded by these same Internet Fraudsters. . .

I don't call them Yahoo Boys. . .I call them for what they are - Fraudsters.

But changing a whole way of life is fruitless.

We have to start from our own homes.

We have younger ones, cousins, nephews and nieces

We have to start teaching them the value of working hard and growing with time. . .

Fast money doesn't give peace of mind

Imagine hustling legit and SARS tells you any nonsense. . .you will sue their asses off.

But these Fraudsters can't. . . the money is dirty so they can't have peace of mind.

But use your success as a model to show the youths that hard work pays.

Just as these Internet Fraudsters keep showing off their presumed "success" -- they forget that true wealth isn't all about how much you have. . .

Show the youths how you struggled the right way and made sustainable success along the way.

That is one way we can fight this WAR. . .

Thank you for seconding my observations.

I would like to expand the scope of "home" in that proverb.

The country is a home of sorts, a homeland.

Her territories, both terrestrial and psychological, should be guarded and protected against encroachments of any type.
The country is like a family.
The leaders are the caregivers.

Once upon a time in this country there was a very efficient National Censors Board.
That body went to the dogs the very time they settled for giving warning tags to CDs with indecent contents instead of actually doing their job by banning such productions.
And we have come to accept these things as normal.
We should be ready to take the full boomerang.
They are now hitting us in different forms and shapes,
be it by way of fraud, robbery, prostitution, gambling and betting, cultism, laziness among youths, drugs, terrorism, gangsterism, vandalism, etc, etc.
Worse things are coming.

The solution is beyond the smaller home.
It lies in the hand of the managers of the greater home.
The country is a homeland.
The managers of the homeland have a duty not only to protect the physical resources of the nation but also to guard all her psycho-spiritual terrains and ideological frontiers;
all her moral grounds and positions;
all her sociological and ethical boundaries from destruction and ruination!

It is chiefly the duty of state.
I mean government.
Look at Islamic countries, and see that their governments are active in checking the madness of destroyers of civilization with very firm laws and unwavering application.
The only snag there is that they are too rigidly conservative!
And often take things to an extreme point of severity!
I am not advocating for that. Take note.

Nigeria as a country is a failure.
Her institutions of state are mostly run by substandard human beings.
Therefore, your submission is still in order.
It is each man to his own "home" .
A retreat to one's private corner to begin a realization of the much desired "charity"!

I agree with you that it's the Governments job

But when will the Nigerian Government get their s.hit together?

In the next fifty or maybe one hundred years??

We are our own solution

Focus on your family, make them see the real light. . .

Imagine you, me and one thousand young Nigerians decide to focus on starting this " charity " at home

Just think about what we could achieve

Start from home and the ripple effect will be felt all over the country

and then, we might actually get the attention of the Government

Maybe then, they'll start thinking in the right direction. . .

Think about the Nigeria of your dreams and start from home.

Pls, ICO profits does not in ANYWAY get close to 'G'.
So your statement '...no be G per say...' should not be used. Pls, note that there are legal businesses and investments that uses the world wide web as their platforms. They are not similar, neither should they be termed as internet fraud.

Psychic darkness should have no place in a true human being!
What is keeping you alive you do not know.
What brought you to life you cannot tell.
Do not speak blasphemy with the gift of speech given you by the Creator.
Karma is very much real.
It is the right of the Creator to moderation of His Creation.
Karma is very much alive even now!
The Omniverse of our God is governed by the Law of Cause and Effect.
One cause could have effects stretching into later reincarnations and re-embodiments.
The ever watchful presence of the Justice of God cannot be evaded by any man.
Consider well.
