Talk show and Big Brother Nigeria host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu has expressed shock with the fact that people still voted for Governor Umaru Ganduje of Kano State, despite video recordings showing that he took bribe.

The Big Brother Naija host in a tweet on Tuesday morning said it was truly amazing that the Kano state governor who was accused of taking bribes from contractors and also caught in several videos stuffing dollars into his “babariga” – could still be reelected back to the office.

By using the word "re-elected" when he was clearly rigged by the military and Kano State-protected street urchins, you are inadvertently validating the "victory" and normalizing rigging. Ebuka, you should know this.

Bribery scandal apart, Ganduje performed better than most southern and north central governors. Ebuka should be be wondering why Ikpeazu got re-elected instead

There is this thing about the Igbos, having beams of wood in their eyes but worrying about the pecks in those of others.

Ebuka is worried about Kano people who fought hard to resist Ganduje's second term, Ganduje even had to rely on rerun to win.

But what happened in Abia state with a governor owing months of backlogs of salaries of teachers, doctors, local government staff, pensioners and workers? He won with a landslide after sharing liters of kerosene.

Ikpeazu didn't even rate them, grin he gave them kerosene, not even gas cylinders.

Ganduje isn't owing salaries, president came to Kano to commission his projects but can the same be said about SE/SS governors?
You and tribalism, Nawa oo. Ganduja was caught putting dollars in his baba riga. That is enough evidence.

Governors from North to west to east all owe salaries in one way or the other but that is not good of them. From the record there is no state in Nigeria that is not owing pensioners and workers emoluments.

Honestly U shud be given the award of the most tribalistic n senseless personality on nairaland
Ebuka merely twitted on how a governor who was caught on camera stealing was re-elected n u have to bring in politics n tribalism to that . What exactly is wrong with what he said , he never referred to competence or incompetence but as to how a blatant n conspicuous thief wud be voted back into power.
Truly with likes like u Nigeria has a long way to go

Ikpeazu was not caught on camera accepting bribes in hard currency. That was Ebuka's major focus.

Stop being a dunce in the bid to defend your Northern masters!

To be frank, Ganduje is one of the better performing governors in Nigeria. He has performed relatively better than most of his fellow governors including the current joker in Lagos.

As for getting caught in the act of corruption, it should have cost him his position regardless of his record of performance. That is how it is in more developed climes. But here in Nigeria, I guess the reverse is the case. Moreso when one considers the sad fact that his other non-performing colleagues are probably stealing much more but just haven't been caught on camera.

Underperforming governors getting 2nd terms is hardly news all across the Federation - happens all the time in your homeland too. Governors owing salaries is hardly news all across the Federation - Osun was probably the worst offender for this in the entire Federation but Aregbe served his 2 terms and even hand-picked his successor. Politicians debasing voters with petty inducements is hardly news all across the Federation - probably no region is known more for stomach infrastructure politicians than the SW.
None of those is the same as a governor getting caught on camera accepting bribes, which in any sane universe should have led to immediate impeachment and prosecution, nevermind getting to extend your tenure after being caught in the act. Of course you know all this, but facts couldn't get in the way of a rant with tribalistic trolling as its sole purpose.

Oh, and we do criticize our governors all the time and overthrow the worst performing ones. That was how PDP was uprooted from Anambra politics since the disastrous single term of Mbadinuju. That was how Imo overthrew first overthrew Ohakim, and now dismantled the political machinery Rochas tried to impose. Abia is the only peculiar case in the SE that has persisted with failure for so long and everyone else ridicules them for it, so the notion that we do not criticize our own politicians but only focus on those from other regions is quite a load of twaddle.
