Paying a semester tuition doesn't determine or change what the outcome might be. To be honest, the payment may not change the normal outcome of the interview. You could get the visa, or you could be refused. There have been students who pay deposit and still got refused. If you want to make a deposit, go ahead. Just make sure money is refundable before you make the payment. Get receipt for that, and incorporate the statement of deposit in your interview answer to "Who is sponsoring you", etc, and hope for the best. But note that this is not what determine F1 visa issuance. Good interview and, if you will agree, grace of God, does! So, I advice you prepare very well. Your tuition is actually not that high. To answer your questions. You can be admitted to the US irrespective of your age. Considering your age, a MS would be ideal. You could get admission for an associate degree, first degree, but getting an F1 for first degree for a 32 year old will take MIRACLE. You will be asked why you are just going for this now, and what you have been doing. The VO may see you as using the student visa route to migrate. A master would have been ideal. HOWEVER, I am not the US embassy. We have seen students whose profile defy protocol and still get the visa. So, if this is what you want, start. Decide when you want to start and which admission term you'd like to get in for. Go for a 4 year program over community college. There are a lot of schools in the US. Grab your computer and search for schools. If you have more questions, you can ask. Wish you the best. prety247:

I really want to know what happened because up till when I left Nigeria there wasn't any issue. Is it possible for someone to cancel payment after registering and siting for the exam. I am really worried about what has happened. I dont want any fraud allegations on me in the US. What do you guyz suggest I do?

Is he reachable ?... contact him and see what the issue and also contact TOEFL and see what the issue is Yes i seen a comment here where someone used a stolen credit card and registered and this happened. I dont know if that what happened here .... but if that is. I suggest you pay it and move on . If you dont pay possibly nothing will happen either but i would just pay. Did you pay him half of the fees to his bank account and then he made the full payment?. At the end of the day NL is faceless so you always have to be careful here. If someone is doing a giveaway then let them give you the money and you pay yourself. anything outside that , you have to be careful 1 Like |

Good day everyone. I've been a silent follower. I recently applied to ETSU in March 2019 and I got my application approved on May 3rd to attend ETSU in Fall 2019. A mail was sent to me which contained a link to filling a form for my i20 which I did immediately. when applying in March, I submitted my dad's bank statement to the schoo which covered for Dec 2018 to March 2019. I got a mail from the school last night insisting I submit statement from 3 most recent months I.e Feb, March and April/May. My dad has been out of the country hence I cant get his bank statement. I want to know if it's okay to use my mom's bank statement since she is around. I plan to mail the school informing them of change in sponsor before they issue me form i20.

I am a 300L student in a federal university in Nigeria. I am finishing with my program next year August and I want to apply to the US for my masters. However I want to start applying late this year/early next year. I will write my GRE and Toefl this year and have my results ready but I want to go immediately after my last exam here in Nigeria. Like if I have my final paper on July 3rd, I want my visa ready by then such that the following week I will leave but I have been reading the thread and it seems I have to have my transcript and GPA for me to secure admission and funding. This is cool only that my complete transcript might not be ready by then and they might still be accumulating our results. Sometimes it takes a year to have your result and certificate and I don’t want to wait a year after I am done.
Are there universities that accept just GRE and toefp for masters and if you have done something similar to what I want to do now can you please let me know how you did it

Me: Well, it was actually a tough one. I was awarded a fellowship by the school and given a graduate assistantship by the department. Also, my adviser Dr. Pierson was really keen on having me (stuttered a bit here) and went out of his way to convince me to join his research team. Most importantly, his research work on additive manufacturing, industrial automation and cobots are a perfect fit for me because this was what I worked on in my undergraduate research project, so it's more like a step up. ( she was listening and typing all through. Even after I finished she kept on typing for a while before asking the next question)
V.O: Which engineering are you going for? (My I20 only had "General Engineering " as the course of study)
Me: Industrial Engineering
V.O: Do you have any one in the US?
Me: Yes, my uncle.
V.O: Are you single?
Me: Yes, I'm.

We got to the first security check outside, after checks i headed to join another queue where you submit your passport so they can tag it. From there through another security check to another queue to do biometrics. After the biometrics i joined the interview queue and sat accordingly. My heart was beating so fast and my body shivered. I asked God to cover my errors and mistakes and give me favour with the VO. Time to enter for interview, window 7 was a woman dashing denials like handbills, my heart started panting again while i prayed i shouldnt go to her. She denied like 5 people in my front without even giving them time to state their case. the guy in window 8 was more patient with applicants so i prayed to go to him but as God will have it i got the woman. My cousin sent some transcripts to use to prepare for my interview like 2 months ago. I havent been able to stop reading since. Every time i read the transcripts i picture myself typing my own testimony here.
Got my visa approved yesterday morning at Abuja Embassy 7:30am batch. So unlike Lagos and being a Thursday the crowd wasnt that much. We got to the first security check outside, after checks i headed to join another queue where you submit your passport so they can tag it. From there through another security check to another queue to do biometrics. After the biometrics i joined the interview queue and sat accordingly. My heart was beating so fast and my body shivered. I asked God to cover my errors and mistakes and give me favour with the VO. Time to enter for interview, window 7 was a woman dashing denials like handbills, my heart started panting again while i prayed i shouldnt go to her. She denied like 5 people in my front without even giving them time to state their case. the guy in window 8 was more patient with applicants so i prayed to go to him but as God will have it i got the woman. Here's our conversation
VO: Pass your passport and i20
Me: Good morning (as i passed them to her)
VO: Good morning. Why Missouri State ?
Me: (In my mind i was okay straight to business) Missouri State University is one of the few schools that offers Defense and Strategic Studies to civilians and their extensive curriculum aligns with my research and career interest
VO: and what is that?
Me: (Didnt hear her well so i asked again)
VO: Your career interest, what is it?
Me: I want to be a member of the Nigerian Army and this course will help me achieve that
VO: (Types for a while on her computer) How many other schools did you apply to?
Me: 3 others. Georgetown University, George Mason University and University of Texas at El Paso
VO: How many others gave you admission
Me: No other yet just Missouri State University (maintaining eye contact)
VO: Who is sponsoring you?
Me: My uncle and his wife
VO: What does he do?
Me: He owns so so and so
VO: Do you have his statement?
Me: Passed it to her
VO: (Looks at it intensely) Is this his company's statement?
Me: Yes it is, they are paying for my studies
VO: Spell his name
Me: (Spelt it)
VO: How long as he been sponsoring your education
Me: Since 2004 when i got in secondary school
VO: We are going to critically look into these account statement and if we find anything incriminating you will be banned forever from entering the US. Do you give the permission to go through this?
Me: Yes please (smiling already)
VO: (Passes me white paper and my i20)
Me: (Picked them) what do i do next?
VO: Its written on the white paper. Have a nice day.
Me: Thank You
I was very confident that my passport would not return home with me, i froze at a particular point and in my mind i knew i had messed up but God showed up for me and covered my error and mistake. thanks to everyone that contributes to this page, please dont stop. i got a lot of encouragement from these transcripts. I wish future applicants success in their interviews. its not as hard as you think just be thoroughly prepared. I will advice that if your applying for student visa do it in Abuja, that is an advantage already cos its like they give preference to students. All I see here is preparation , not location.
You calmed the inquisitiveness of the VO when you said you're intending to join the Nigerian Defense and that was a well calculated answer.
So forget about your Lagos and Abuja approval denial talk ..that's not true. I believe location plays a part. Abuja is a lot more Behind than Lagos, d VOs will not scrutinize people as much as they would Lagos. They might believe those students r a gathering of "big boys n girls." For instance, Abuja police are a lot more respectful because they don't know who is who. My point is, a VO who lives in a relaxed n noiseless environment, Who is not stuck in traffic before getting home will be more lenient than what could be expected of Lagos. The Abuja embassy is in a serene environment with no cars flying here n there, that of Lagos is basically in d middle of a "market." Little things counts too. Everybody dey shine their eyes for Lagos, VOs inclusive. If your argument is strong, location means nothing. 4 Likes |

I paid him half of the money. I do not have his contact anymore but I sent him message here on Nairaland. Let me give u an angle here The person probably used stolen or skimmed credit card information to pay for your exam. Those boys usually buy those stolen card information on the dark web and might not have the skillset to to "write" the stolen info unto a blank card. Paying for your TOEFL is one way of converting the card information into cash. When u read the news and hear that Equifax or Yahoo or any other random website that receives payment with people's card details is hacked. Those info end up on auction sites where d dude directly or indirectly obtained it from. If it's too good to be true, probably stay clear of it. Please, don't ask me how I know o. AM I A YAHOO BOI?

I called ETS now and I was told that the payment was later declined. The lady told me they usually witness a lot of scam cases from Nigeria. It is just so sad and disheartening that these people giving us bad names are less than 1% of the population. People won't really understand the implication of their action until they move out of Nigeria and experience how we are perceived as a people. All the Fraudsters here on Nairaland should desist from these sharp practices. How do I even pay this $180 considering I am just a poor student living from hand to mouth. I dont even work, no TA. My survival here in the US is a clear testimony that God still interfere in affairs of man; it has been good people assistance since I got here. It is just a miracle that a nobody like me from the ghetto of Lagos Ajegunle is enrolled and studying in the US for a postgraduate degree. I can only hope this doesnt affect me in anyway. $180 is a lot for someone that doesn't work and I really wanted to report this score but I was told I will have to make the full payment. I am planning to work during this summer as an intern, I already got an offer but I do not have the means to make the payment. @Enuelsmith, please do the needful if you are reading this. I am doing this because you never replied the mail I sent you. |
