Their is no pure truth in what he said...his statement.."You are cautioned that university degrees do not usher you into an El Dorado"...this is a bad statement coming from a President. What will happen to fate of millions of students that are studying and seeing this statement from d president.
That students are not getting the right education is another topic entirely. They have subject themselves to the system ,it is now left for d government to ensure quality, student can't provide quality education.

Government led by d president is supposed to provide enable environment for u to succeed after ur studies but inferring that education will not quarantee future is absolutely wrong..Going for further studies supposed to be optional not for me to get my first job on that premise.

He just threw everyone under the bus. Lol. It's not even government's problem to assist. Considering our low employment rate and joblessness, he shouldn't have said it. Also doctors who are in high demand are running out of the country. Or is this man trying to tell us his long term plan? Lol.

[sup][/sup]The statement, though credited to PMB shouldn't be totally seen as the one talking. It is minister of state for education that said that.Who even knows whether he sees PMB before going there.

Totally disagree Sir. What will now guarantee a future. A President coming from a region that is less educated and having millions of out of school children should not have uttered this.

The president is wrong on this. There are different levels of education, not necessarily university. My cousin is a welder in Canada and highly educated in that field.
What will now guarantee a bright future?.I hope he is not referring to Yahoo.

Do you think is easy to do yahoo?
Re: Buhari: University Degrees Won’t Necessarily Usher You Into An El Dorado by qanda: 9:24am On May 11, 2019
True. The minister of education his simply saying that graduates must ensure they acquire relevant skills, innovate and be creative. Many graduates do not have basic computing and digital skills upon graduation. So go ahead to undergo their NYSC and play a way the time/opportunity...who do you blame for this?

You are the one who is wrong. Read the whole paragraph containing that statement.

Our idea of a university degree in Nigeria is warped hence the abundance of unemployable graduates.

The president is very right on this one. I didn't expect anyone to even see faults in the statement.

The president has pass a message across to NIGERIANS which means that spending years to acquire expensive education is not really necessary anymore.. After your Secondary just engaged urself with any legit hustle that pays.. so Forget this Damn Overhyped Nigeria BSC certificate cos if this situation keep on going like this I fear if BSC will be minimum qualification to seek ordinary Gateman Job...

And who says everybody wants to be a millionaire? That is how we got it wrong in ds country and that is d reason d president also said "eldorado"...I know he means wealth but is total rubbish....wat we all want is for basic things of life to be in place..not everyone dt is craving to hv billions and trillions in account

What do u mean by folding of arms., Nigerians are some of d most hardworking people..Despite being educated, some are now Keke riders, okada riders.. Their are now many lawyers and medical doctors that are now tailors...In 2011,I saw a medical doctor being paid #70,000/month.some of them survive on locum..When he travels out for medicals,is he going there to meet babalawo?..If those doctors didnt acquire d education and their government investing heavily in their infrastructure, will he go there...he paid those people their and dt is "eldorado"
Are you really serious? Or just disagreeing because it's Buhari? That statement is a fact. Especially in a country where the youth have their eyes on something bigger.
What is an "eldorado"? The president is merely stating that these days, your university degree is not enough. Thinking outside the box is how countries like China are where they are today.

How much formal education did Abraham Lincoln get?

You people should counter points with objectivity rather than attacking persons.

The president is right on this one. And he is even addressing people like you who think being a graduate is the only thing that qualifies one to address degree issues.

Perhaps you don't know that there are artisans without degrees who give lectures even in Harvard.

That is why there is a difference between developed countries and developing countries like Nigeria. The way we view degrees in Nigeria has made many people go every length (cheating and bribing or sleeping with lecturers) to get a degree that they don't merit.

The day many Nigerians take the president's word concerning the essence of a degree, then our country would improve.

Baba you are the one taking it totally out of context. A degree doesn't translate to juicy job with fat check and all the trappings. How you apply yourself, how you update yourself with skills to meet the contemporary labour market will. You can have a first class in any subject but then you don't know how to use a computer who will employ you. So If you are dumb enough to take what the president said out of context and then drop out of school you are obviously not suppose to be in school in the first place.
