Tesppidd, this post was made some two years back.

I am sure you were not also expecting any good thing from Suarez going by what he has been serving us for the past two years expectially in the UCL just like me.
Talking about when it matters most which you claim never to want to hear, a lone goal was all that probably mattered most in that match, and the best of the scoring chances was gotten by the GOAT who has been the burden carrier of the team, but he chose to blow it not minding the stupidity of the useless player that passed to him.
And afterwards, I saw my captain strolling on the pitch waiting for the ball and wearing a depressed look after every Liverpool's goal. And you want me to praise him? He got all the praises when he did well in the first leg and should get the stick when he let me down in the second leg.
Fine, all that you have said.

No contest.

My problem really is with the clause;
"When it matters most"

1.Did it not matter "most" at the point he scored against Lyon?
2.Did it not matter "most" at the point he scored against Manchester United?

If Manchester United had eliminated us and Messi failed to score, people would still say that he failed when it mattered most.

My point?

There is no such thing as when it matters most.

Every game and miniute matters most until you win the cup.
No time or game matters most, more than another.

Barcelona have caused uncontrollable tears and heartache to almost all these clubs in the past that is we are the most hated club in the world and the reason why every tom, dick and harry rejoice whenever we lose.

Alright Great Cules. We've had good and rough times together. We've tasted victories and defeats alike. I'll remember some of you as loyal comrades. We've laughed and cried together. We've hallowed our hearts into this great Hall.

But as long as Bartomeu and Valverde remain, I cease to be a fan. Thank you. grin embarassed cry

Being the GOAT does not automatically make one a great leader.
Xavi? Yes!
A certain Xavi would not attempt to dribble when a simple tap in would have gotten the job done when all that's needed is a single goal.
A certain Xavi would not be looking helplessly and run out of idea when his team is being decimated and outpowered.
A certain Xavi would not be strolling on the pitch waiting for passes when it is obvious his team is in trouble and cannot get the ball to him comfortably. He would support rhe team.
I am sure Xavi will be on the pitch and will keep mute when his team needs someone to talk and motivate them.
I doubt if Xavi would ever be in a team bottling a 3goal lead when it really matters most.

Mind you, all the players were useless that night. But, the leader gets the most blame after the coach.

Valverde says he's not watched the Liverpool game back yet but the events remain very clear in his head. Does he feel he can carry on next season? "I'm fine and with the strength to continue." He adds: "I spoke with the president (Bartomeu) and he offered me his support."

Guy, I would have agreed with you if you chose to be a passive fan than ceasing to be a fan entirely.

You have every right to denounce being a fan. But believe me that any Barcelona fan that does that was not a real fan to begin with. Such people are just supporters who claimed barca because of the club's pedigree of winning almost all its matches or because of love for Messi.

A friend in need they say is a friend in deed. If a Barca fan departs because of this type of disappointment, I wonder what a fan of relegation team like Huesca would do. Moreover, there are more UCL in the future for our darling club to win, with or witjiut almighty Messi.

I remain a proud Barca fan for life.

Those people actually failed to understand how psychology works.

If Messi can only try to motivate his team once... I believe the players attitude would change.

He is the captain. If he try do it just once... They'll be surprised he did it and be like "ehh.. We have never seen Messi do something like this... We had better buckle up properly"
A player like Messi or Ronaldo can motivate their team to success. They have earned that respect.

If pique does it. It will not be as effective as the one Messi will do.

Because it is just like the way you will prefer getting motivation from a successful business man rather than a jobless man. grin

One is proven and well reputable to the other player who is just another player.

There is no such thing as when it matters most.

Every game and miniute matters most until you win the cup.
No time or game matters most, more than another.

All games do matter but not all matter most

There is something like where it matters most. And it is called the biggest of stage.

Barcelona without Messi can still squeeze past lyon and Manchester United. Manchester United were beaten two times consecutively by Wolverhampton before facing Barcelona in the UCL. so why not Barca?

But when you face Liverpool, any team needs to field its best player to go through. These are the kind of games that it is very crucial for big name players to rise to the hype... That is when it matters most.

Scoring away is very crucial and he has failed to deliver a single goal in the knock out round before Liverpool sent Barcelona parking.

All season long... Liverpool is the only formidable side you had played and couldn't get past them. Games like this is when it matters most. To know if you truly are gallant to be the Champions of Europe.

No No No

This postulation is not about Messi.
I just used him for an example because he's the most common victim of the "when it matters most" charade.

Check Ronaldo of last season for Madrid;

If Ramos and Bale didn't perform in the final and they lost the trophy to Liverpool,
Would it be correct to say "Ronaldo failed 'when it matters most' "?
Despite his big moments before the semis?

And I tell you solemnly, even if Messi delivered another masterclass against Liverpool and made the finals;
And then went on to have a bad game in the final against Tottenham and lose the trophy,

Wouldn't you say Messi failed when it matters most?

Look at Ajax this season for instance!

Dispatched giants like Real Madrid and Juventus and lost to a very poor and inferior Tottenham side.

Should the "when it matters most" singers shy from saying that Ajax (or De ligt) failed when it matters most?
Just because Totteham is not a big as Real or Juve?

People who use that clause do not do it because of the strength of the opposition, they do it because they just must troll a superstar who just got knocked out,

Be it a Messi, a Ronaldo or a Neymar.
