share your experiences dealing with fraudulent clients who sell/almost sold Vehicles to you based on trust, but are either defective, or have incomplete documentation.

you can also add clients you never came back to pay their balance, and clients who damaged vehicles and brought them back

Yes 90% of car dealers are liars, yes 90% of car dealers are not transparent, agreed.

My experience! I started selling cars far back as 2009,yes 2009!! 2 of my cousin's lives in Frankfurt Germany,so I was able to capitalize on that opportunity to bring in cars into Nigeria. Euro was still around 180/200 if I could recall back then, which makes it's much reasonable bringing cars from Germany. Toyota/lexus were off the list for me because they are crazily expensive buying from Germany.
Meaning I have to make do with other brands like Ford, mazda,Benz,Chrysler and sometimes Honda's and the rest of them. Note, had a full time job while auto biz was my side gig,at least man must grow like dangote too na grin

The first calamity,mr A came to inspect a 2001 Ford windster, white color with lovely creamy leather interior, long story short he doesn't have the complete money but assured me he would balance up 450k in 3 months. If I'm to get the cash back, then that would be today, each time I call to ask for my cash, his response was this car too chop fuel self, not what I bargain for,I will let u know when I have money lol SMH grin That was how I lost 450k grin grin

More coming. .. sit back.

Funny enough,He was introduced to me by a mopol who guards the company I used to work with back then. The mopol stood as a surety for him,one day I woke up to find out mopol has been transferred to zamfara. grin
Called mopol, all he does was give excuses for the buyer,he lost his wife,he lost his job,he is not feeling fine, till I had to let go.

Phase 2!! After selling few cars to the extent that I have gotten over my loss on the Ford windster. I made yet another mistake, the guy that normally bring my cars from lagos to Abuja after they have been cleared from apapa port wanted to buy a Volkswagen golf 3.This guy knew about my finances, cars I sell even up to my bank balance.because we are so so close. Long story short,I I brought in a golf 3 from Germany, which was around 450k back then. He pleaded to allow him buy the car,but the problem was he has just 200k at hand. How was he going to pay back? His answer was,he would be using the car for transportation in Abuja and its environment,b4 6months or so,he would balance up. Well sounds fair enough.

One month passes and I'm yet to get cash from oga, called him and he was like sorry sir,I will pay you something next month, business is a bit slow. Being that the job I was into back then was tasking that I had to resume 6.30am and close 10pm. I barely had time for other things except on sundays. I would rather rest than go into thug of war grin

2 months after, found out oga don use tokunbo golf 3 go swap with a scattered Nigerian used 1997 Honda accord called (Honda bulldog)
grin well what's my own, just pay me my cash. Reason for the swap,he said the golf couldn't carry 4 people at the back comfortably for transportation.

Oya wey my money? No money lol. His wife begged me,family begged me to be patient,he even engaged my friends to beg. We had an agreement for him going to Lagos to bring my cars and then I will keep deducting his money bit by bit till he completes my money lol. Guess what oga found a way to still milk me,its either tire burst on the way or custom asked for money on a full duty paid car or police stopped him for one reason or the other grin

I spoke to a friend one day who advised me to let him go cos one day he might just disappear with one of my cars.

That was how that one ended. 250k gone on golf 3 grin

More still coming o grin I learnt the hard way grin

Since most Nigerians cannot outrightly afford vehicles they'll like to own, I think a dealer who gives out cars on loan and has managed to map out strategies that will ensure the money is recovered will make a kill.

-Only give vehicles on loan to salary earners

-There should be a standing order to debit client and credit the dealer once salary gets paid.

-Two guarantors who are government workers with minimum level of 14

-A binding legal document duly signed by guarantors transferring "liability" to them should the client default in paying

- e.t.c

Brought in a 2003/2004 Honda end of discussion from Germany as well. Clean silver color with black interior.

Took me a while to sell it and I was running out of patience! This funny looking dude came for inspection with his friends, didn't have complete cash, but wants to swap with a clean Honda baby boy. The baby boy has a clean body and good fabric interior, which was a deceit. To my naked eye and ears,Engine works fine, gear selects fine but a.c is not working properly .Guy man said it was gas! I did my own novice inspection, sealed the deal, collected the baby boy, gave then my end of discussion.

2 weeks after I was driving the baby boy to work when I heard some funny noise from the engine, then car stopped. Parked it there, called my mechanic to go check the car lol. Report, engine don knock,it has been ringed. I recalled asking the owner if everything was ok,he told me he has been using the car for 3 years and he bought it tokunbo himself and he is yet to change anything.

Doesn't end there,a.c compressor was working, but there is this leakage from hell I spent almost 150k trying to fix, from changing compresor,to changing condenser, changing the pipes, bringing down the dashboard in trying to fix the leakage, yet no solution. At the end of the day I changed engine and sold the car at a cheap rate angry angry Abuja big boy scammed me grin

Well I take the blame for not doing thorough inspection with a well to do mechanic. It's was part of my learning process. grin

We run an auto loan scheme where credible individuals can apply and pay in instalments for our vehicles.

We were approached by legalwealth in 2018, he wanted to buy one of our vehicles a toyota Venza, but did not have all the required cash, and opted to trade in his Nigerian used honda accord and add more funds to purchase our vehicle.

I will summarise so this does not get boring.

1. The car he intended trading in (accord) had fake custom duty and he knew. https://www.nairaland.com/4911746/read-why-how-car-almost

2. For a Nigerian used EOD he wanted us to buy his car @ 1.2M which we declined.

3. He later went to our page to defame us calling us "unprofessional" because we didn't dance to his tunes.

I will be posting proof of how it went down.

from information gathered, Mr legalwealth has been using poor quality engine oil to service his car since 2016 same car he wants to sell to us for 1.2m.

We are lucky to have escaped him and wish him the best in all his endevours.

My own experience is a serious one..... Watch this space... I'll be back, I have two experiences I'll share...

So early 2018, a guy called from Nairaland to buy a car from me. He got to my place on a Sunday and he was in haste, trying to rush things, understandable because he has to go back to Lagos(so he claimed) same day..the car he came for was a TOKS.
He checked the car, drove it and in less than 15mins we were talking about payment.... He brought out his phone, same Samsung S8 edge he has been using to call and receive calls since I went to pick him from park.
He did the transaction on the the phone using USSD code. He sent about a million on his phone in two splits.. 170k and 800k making 970k, did the rest on ATM.

We got the alert, we checked our bank statement online everything added up well, another money was sent to that same account from another family member of ours money added up well.

Fast forward to Monday morning, the money was still there. So at about 11:30am that same Monday morning, we wanted to buy a car, on opening bank app, the balance we saw was not what we had as at the morning.. We did plus and minus, the balance was short of exactly 970k...

We went to the ATM before going into the bank... We checked the balance , the 970k was in ledger balance.... We sighed relieve.

On getting into the bank hall, we went to our trusted person, checked the account, he said Lian has been placed on the said amount, that the transaction was unauthorized... Brb
Sorry for any typo...

So what happened was that, he transferred money from another person's account without the person's consent.

Lest I forget, when he first called me he used a number, but subsequently, he called with a private/unknown number. So I held the first number safe.
