We are very interested in this topic. As one of the most frequently visited Auto Listing Sites in Nigeria, we really want to improve our service and create a safe, scam-free auto-trading community online.

We would like to hear your opinions and suggestions, car sellers! What can we do to make it easier for you, especially in avoiding scams? grin

Sometimes last year, I was contacted to get a registered Lexus RX330, I informed the intended buyer the average price of a very clean registered unit which we agreed to get. I saw some units which I inspected and when I was about to buy the seller suddenly declined the sales. I transferred the buyer cash back to him. He continued pleading I keep the cash till I see a good unit. I ran search for 6weeks. And buyer started complaining of inadequacy of funds for his basic needs and suggested I send some cash to him which I did and put in recording. I got a unit in Abuja and I told owner to settle for it. He agreed and appealed I use my money to complete the payment and transportation to PH. I recorded it and told him he'll pay me on getting to PH which he agreed to. I drove all the way to PH delivered the car to him, he sent me 25k, and was left with 100k to pay me. I asked him he said he's got no cash. Since there's nothing I could do and he being nairalander made me leave him with a hope he'll be able to pay in 30days time. As I put this down, that same person hasn't sent my balance neither has he picked my call. Ice left the case for law of nature to take its cause.

So as not to be caught in the web and busted, we had to move really fast like more than 900 horse power, using money and long leg.... Lolsss... At a time we did 18hours journey straight.... Ado to Lagos ooo.. It was crazy..
The police and EFCC were on our tail.

The owner of the account is in Canada. And he happens to be an in-law to a top officer of the law. My people, it was crazy.

How did he get the Sim of the owner who resides in Canada?

We wanted to, so many people advised us to.. But it only amount to spending more money and most importantly more time...

We just have to thank God we got him and most importantly had our peace of mind back! We handed him over to police and forgot about him.....

The evil was averted, we only have to thank God.

If the police or efcc got to us first, or we couldn't track him down, who we go sue?

I guess you are now afraid of bank transfers now!

I don't know oo, maybe before the person left, or the person dropped his phone in Nigeria....

The original account owner got to know about the fraud, when he got debt alert on his email.

Bros, to collect transfer from you, especially if I don't know you, or know how to to get to you, you must provide me a valid ID that must tally with account name.

Baba, 99% of the car deals I have done was through transfer. This is an eye opener, hmmm!! Sent shivers down my spine,I think our banks can do better,if they can't confirm authorization of a fund transfer,y make it happen at the initial stage.

another scary thing about car purchases is when you buy a supposedly Foreign used car, from a dealer, only to find out it has been registered before

Wow, minimum standard? That's to say, crooks might still find away around valid ID? Please what other measures do you put in place?
Another good way to collect genuine transfer which I do more than valid ID thingy, is going into the bank to make the transfer, and I think it's by far the best.

I profile the client most times, for example, if the client is in a hurry, I am careful, if the client does not haggle too much, I am careful, if the client is too beggy beggy and wants to spread out payments, that one I just decline straight.

Smiles, oga mi you didn't get gist!

It was a real money! The money was usable and transferable from the Sunday afternoon that he did the transfer to Monday morning around 11am....
A lian was placed on the said amount because the owner contacted his bank that an unauthorized transaction was done on his account.

The transaction was real and usable.

wow,
I'm not yet a car dealer so I'll narrate my own car buying experience.

first of all, I'd like to categorically state that I am a scientific man.
I don't believe in baba ijebu, I don't believe in bet9ja I dont believe in MMM and the likes...

I believe in miracles, I believe in working smart and not working hard.

fast forward to last 3years, I was transferred to abakaliki from owerri .
I went there with my 03 Camry 4cyl in perfect shape, when I say perfect.... I mean perfect.... Black in colour with oem alloy rims, AC was top notch...

I went there and few months after, I discovered a very small transmission oil leak underneath the vehicle...

I overflogged this vehicle without mercy...
I travelled to owerri from abakaliki Saturdays, returned Sundays.... for like 4 months... maybe more sef, people were begging me to stop but i couldn't stand abakaliki and I wasn't Willing to adapt!

It was understandable that I'd need to fix something sometime cos that okigwe owerri road was a near total write off!

I gave one of the company's driver to help me fix this very small leak.... when I mean small I mean when I leave in the morning that's the only time I notice the leak cos my lodge parking space was always very neat and tidy!
when driving off I'll notice oil droplets, on the very clean floor.. transmission was always gauged but as the maintenance man I was na.... I said I'll fix it.

extra sheet please

I gave him the car to fix.... he came back and told me that they said they'll have to drop my gearbox that the joint between the engine and gear needs gasket...
I told him to bring my vehicle back..

two weeks after, I decided to fix this issue... If it were in owerri, I'd have fixed this stuff myself cos I had a learning mechanic closeby and enough time/ space to work.
but I decided to go there by myself and see first...
I got there and saw the number of big cars being butchered and I said to myself, these guys must know what they are doing since big big cars are parked here!

that was the beginning of my car challenge....
I have driven 3 cars before this one and the only reason I sold two of them was to upgrade...
fast forward to when I went to collect the car 2days after.
called the mechanic
me: How far, I'm coming to take the car oh.
mech: Bros never come oh, we are seeing one light on the dash and it's not a good light. Rewire is coming to fix.
I still went there only to start hearing that the battery light was illuminated on the dashboard and they called a rewire to fix it and he fixed although it will cost me extra 4k

me obeke? I said N5 I'm not paying.. I asked him if he has done his own job... he said yes... I couldnt test it now, not until I have driven the car and parked it overnight! I entered my car, started it, put it in drive and decided to move.

this story is very long oh...
u guys should come here!

Put the ride in drive and throttled, no response from throttle. I brought out my phone and scanned with Bluetooth scanner..

P**** sha cannot remember, thottle related.
I investigated only to discover that the throttle wire has been spliced beyond recognition.

I asked they said its rewire! where is the rewire, nowhere to be found....

long story short , I fixed the issue myself and drove out of there.
from that day on, the car never remained the same.

Just then, more responsibilities sprung forth....
I had little or no time on my hands when I mean no time... I mean it... Monday to Monday... non stop
I had to rely on the drivers that were ripping me off one by one for different unrelated issues until one day, I decided that enough is enough...

my car couldn't lock again, I as usual... I spent money on that without value at least twice.
I decided enough is enough....
I said I'm getting another car.
I looked on NL, got a Honda Accord v6. told my cousin to inspect in owerri before I come and drive off with the car

my cousin said this car is brand new... I paid.
the story is too long oh....

OK, legalo is talking about selling his ride for 600 without custom duty... I bought this one for 615 with custom duty...
but when I went back to see this same car i saw on NL.... I was shocked because it was like I no dey see road again....

this was months after I had paid oh, I was driving my Camry without lock for months on end... I just drive anywhere I want to park, clamp my steering lock and move on with life!

when I got to owerri, this car was a mess.... my cousin had a accident with the car after scamming me and collecting around 100 from the seller and 50k from me as per 10 percent broker deal.

I managed to fix the car same day in owerri and drove to AI the next day.... omo see speed...
I had to buy 2 tires that day..... obviously I should have done this before!

got to abakaliki and I still needed my Toyota after all said and done!

I sold that black Toyota and finally sold the accord and decided to buy a car myself.... now here's the deal breaker! the car must be around my vicinity and I must be able to inspect by MYSELF!

Fast forward to this beautiful Saturday afternoon...
A vendor that works with us had been sourcing a nice used ride for me....
