Re: Water supply in Enugu

The Enugu State Water Corporation, wishes to inform the general public that the current low level of water supply to Enugu metropolis is as a result of the 600mm ductile iron transmission pipeline at Oji River Water Scheme, which got damaged at Obunofia, Ezeagu Local Government Area, early last week.

Consequently, the corporation in keeping with the outcome of the recent town hall meeting on water by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and stakeholders and its mandate to ensure adequate water supply to the good people of Enugu State, on Friday, night completed repairs of the damaged pipeline.

Unfortunately, the heavy rain of the early hours of Thursday, disrupted power supply to both Ajalli and Oji River Water Schemes, which affected the production and distribution of water from the two schemes to Enugu metropolis.

However, the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) and Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) are working to restore power supply to the two schemes, to enable the corporation supply water to Enugu metropolis.

We therefore wish to reassure residents of the state of normal water supply once the power is restored, while further measures are been taken to comprehensively address the issue of water supply in the state.

Signed:

Engr. Chidozie Eze
Managing Director, Enugu State Water Corporation

Enugu State is in the hands of God! #amokelouis

Water is scarce in Enugu. Can still remember when I was there, bathing with satchel water, fetching dirty looking water and waiting for the dirts to settle before transferring it into another bucket and waking up to an empty bucket or even a missing bucket join(boarding life) Queuing to fetch water with my couz during hols.
Dunno for now but is a good development.

Enugu is one of the states where Waterboard still works. Because of the water "terrain" of the state. If it was easier to "dig" boreholes like most states, it wouldn't be like this. It's either Government water or Well water in most compounds in Enugu metropolis

Very unprofessional; but am glad say oyibo gods no present to help us connect a coupling.

There need to be at least 6 of those lines to and from the pump station and it needs to be encased with manholes for maintenance.

In Edo State, you are your own water supplier, nothing like government providing water for the people.

It’s the useless gov’ts looking for the cheapest option you should blame!

When the states ministry isn’t directly executing the project, state gov’ts usually patronise inexperienced emergency contractors because they’re the cheaper option; ensure gov’t officials get their own cut; and are usually owned by a friend or relative of the governor or commissioner....that’s if they don’t own it themselves by proxy!

The situation would be a bit tolerable if these mushroom coys had some form of corporate governance structure and adhered to health & safety guidelines!

I currently stay in Enugu. With my 1000gallon GP Tank pipped to supply water upstairs, I have never seen a dry tap for the past 2 years.

There is always municipal water supply to fill it up before it gets finished.

I plan adding another 1000gallon then my Well will be "useless".
