This proposal thing (getting on one knees and asking the other partner for consent in marriage) is a sham. The moment we agreed to be in a relationship, we already had marriage in view. So that 'proposal' thingy is formalities, albeit quite unnecessary.

So if a lady I'm in a relationship with 'proposed', then it's a yes; it always has been. That's my own definition sha, because I'm very picky when it comes to choosing a partner. Reason why I haven't found 'the one' .

Now that is not modern. That is being unafrican. It is not everything the Europeans do that is modern. Their culture supports such because in most European countries, they don't pay bride price. But here, we pay bride price. So, you see, it is not proper for a Nigerian woman to propose marriage since we don't support groom price. It will be good if we don't call our culture outdated simply because we see other culture do something differently from ours. In Africa, the man and the woman have their respective place. Now that doesn't mean a particular gender is relegated to a lower position, instead, it simply mean everyone has his/her place. We place value, big one at that on our women, so big that we feel the need to beg and pay for her to be with the man. The man who should provide her with her needs. The man who should protect her. If these fact remains, then it is only sensible that the man should ask the hand of his woman in marriage and prove that he is worthy enough to provide for her and protect her. This is the most beautiful culture I know.

So to answer your question, I will not accept my woman proposing marriage to me. It is UNAFRICAN and I am a proper African.
