International Finance Corporation Tours Industries In Anambra

International Finance Corporation Tours Industries In Anambra
Governor Willie Obiano’s economic blueprint for the state has been described as realistic and people oriented.

The Executive Director, Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency, ANSIPPA, Dr. Ifediora Amobi made the assertion when he led members of the International Finance Corporation on tour of some industries across the state.

The International Finance Corporation is a branch of World Bank that carters for private sector development.

Some of the industries visited were, Cutix Plc, Anambra Rice mill, Chikason group, Tummy-Tummy industries limited all in Nnewi among others.

Speaking on the essence of the visit, Dr. Amobi who said that the IFC team who were in the state a month ago to interface with the manufacturing sector in the state, came back to interact with more manufacturers and industrialists in the state to know their challenges with a view to providing not just advisory and technical services but also financial support where necessary because they said they were impressed with the entrepreneurial spirit of Ndi Anambra.

The Executive Director explained that the International Finance Corporation did not choose Anambra state by proxy, rather because of the enabling environment, infrastructure, education as well as tight security entrenched by the Obiano administration describing the tour as beneficial to the manufacturers.

The Principal Investment Officer, Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Services, International Finance Corporation, Musonda Chipola said that they have been in Nigeria for a very long time and have made key investments in petrochemical subsector noting that they now want to invest in manufacturing in South Eastern part of Nigeria, hence their choice of Anambra state and promised that they will partner manufacturers and industrialists in the state to grow.

The Chief Executive Officer of Cutix Plc, Mrs. Ijeoma Oduonye who thanked the team for the visit described power, access to capital and high cost of forex as major challenges threatening their businesses, adding that if helped by the IFC,, the company will diversify, create more employment opportunities and help to increase the internally generated revenue of Anambra state.

The two day tour will take the team to some industries located across the three senatorial
districts of the State

Good. They should give them low interest loans for more business expansion, technology transfer among others. Let this not be mere courtesy visit.

The anambra state government should get the IFC to finance a gas pipeline into Nnewi and Onitsha that will allow manufacturing to flourish.

A gas pipeline from Imo to Anambra would cost probably around $100 million or 30 billion naira. The difficulty will be how to finance it given the pitiable resources of ANSG and low level of industries in the state. But the ANSG could setup an investment vehicle and partner with NNPC, Seplat, IFC, IOCs like Shell which has a network in Imo to build the pipeline for existing industries with the hope that more will mushroom with access to power.

I think the new governor of Anambra state will be able to do this comfortably because Obiano have run out of steam and ideas!.

We can also set up Industrial Park which can accommodate over 1000 Medium to large scale inductries arround the Anambra gas fields @ Umuerum, Omasi, Ifite ogwari,Omor,Umumbo,Anam, Anaku, Umueje, Amanuke, Achalla, ochuche & Ufuma etc which will be a cheaper alternative.

FG Flags Off Site And Service Scheme In Anambra

The federal government has flagged off development of the Federal Sites and Services Scheme in Anambra state.

The Minister of Works, Power and Housing Mr Babatunde Fashola, performed the ceremony along Awkuzu-Umunya axis of the Enugu-Onitsha express road.

Correspondents Ngozi Obileri and Michael Ameh covered the event and report that the Federal site and services scheme will be located at Umunya-Awkuzu, in Oyi local Government area.

Inaugurating the project, Mr Fashola represented by the Director Highway construction and rehabilitation, Ministry of Works, Power and housing, Engineer Yemi Oguntominiyi expressed happiness that the project has kicked off in earnest, after a long delay since after the land was allocated due to logistics issues.

Mr Fashola said that all plans have been made to ensure that the project did not record any set back, promising that he will come back soon to commission the project.

Earlier in his speech, the traditional ruler of Umunya in Oyi Local Council area and the chairman of Oyi traditional Rulers Council Igwe Chris Onyekwuluje who commended the Minister for the visit and for making the dream a reality , thanked Federal Government for accepting to site the project in their area.

Igwe Onyekwuluje drew the attention of the Minister to what he called some anomalies that may disturb the smooth running of the schemes B and C of the project that were contained in the scheme A of the project, urging him to remedy the situation.

In an address, the chairman of Awkuzu-Umunya Allottees Committees, retired Colonel Michael Onuorah who said approval to site the project was given since 1980, regretted that work was delayed on the two hundred and thirty six hectares of land allotted for the project, appealing to the Minister to ensure early completion of the project.

In a vote of thanks, Mrs Eucharia Alozie who is a Director in the Ministry of Works, Power and Housing, appreciated Ndi Awkuzu-Umunya for the warm reception accorded them urging them to keep close monitoring on the project.

The event featured cultural dance and masquerade display.

The Minister and his entourage earlier paid a courtesy visit to all the traditional rulers in Oyi at their Secretariat in Nteje, where the traditional ruler of Nteje, Igwe Rowland Odegbo during the kolanut
ritual, prayed for peace of Oyi Council Area, Anambra state and Governor Obiano as well as Nigeria as a whole.
