My fellow nairalanders. I appreciate your help so far despite the fact that I haven't really gone too far. I am just at the ECA stage and registered for ielts next month. It's with a very great sadness that I might have to pull out of this canny dream. Really sad for me. hubby has seriously been reluctant. Says he loves his Naija and God has not instructed him to leave Nigeria and until he receives his heavenly dream from God, he is not going anywhere. He actually said if I want to go badly, I should. But here's the problem, with 3 kids ages 5 3, and 1.5 years old. How do I cope with daycare, job search, mobility, picking up from schools, groceries, and upkeep alone in Canada. To worsen it, he isn't supporting financially. I even offered and begged to have him sit for ielts and his eca with my monthly pay he reluctantly said yes but I thought, one can only force a horse to the river but not to drink. Without his help how will I survive with 3 beautiful kids alone in Canada. He is not even batting an eye concerning the benefits. He's a speedy driver, says cars are meant for speed how will such a person cope with Canadian traffic rules. These and some little others have just weakened me especially my children and the highest I can even leave them is a week. We are that close that they have never gone to bed without my hug and kisses. I dont have any family over there to help with. Good night.
Please don't feel sad. Just remember that everything happens for a reason. I truly understand how you feel and I believe you are wise for taking the present decision especially because of the kids. All in all, anything can still happen...Just don't take it all to heart.

This is the reality of marriage.

It is painful but I believe in what prayers can do. Since your husband's primary reason is anchored in God's instruction, I strongly believe you can trust God to talk to him.

Most importantly, the your sanity and that of your marriage is more important than the Canada dream. Guide and guard it with all you have.

But in all, never say never.

Hmm! Pull out fire! If I hear say you pull out. Babygirl, you will laugh last. But you have to summon up some courage. Shey you are a believer abi? Now is the time for you to start exercising your faith. Oya, do as I say. Untie your wrapper, shake it well to remove any fear, sadness or hopelessness. Now tie it back, knot it well cos the journey isn’t for the faint hearted.
1. Follow all the steps below with prayer and faith.
2. Joyfully thank your husband for saying you should go ahead with the application. Tell him that ‘you can not do anything without his permission’.
3. Stop trying to persuade him to write the exam.
4. Apply as unaccompanied. I hope ur score alone is enough. You can tell him spousal application takes 6 months or just go silent on the unaccompanied. Yorubas will say ‘Ibukun ni fun omo na to fi ogbon shey.
5. Hopefully you get ITA.
6. Start talking to everyone you know bout POF. You are not spending it, make them just help you. Now you see this stage ehn, you will almost lose hope. But I’m trusting God on your behalf. Ask your hubby for POF too. Remember to carry him along every step of the way.
7. Submit your application.
8. About how you will cope? My dear, na God oh. God forbid anything happens to your husband’s enemy, you no go cope? (in Nigeria for that matter).
9. Make we bet, he will come round! When he no be enemy of progress?
10. Pls don’t fight him whether he helps or not. The road is tough oh, I kid you not. Cos as you dey pay for medical from ur pocket and he’s there at Children’s practice looking like ‘wetin be my own?’ You fit wan nack stethoscope for him head. But thou shall not. Patience and prayer wins the race.

All the best. I look forward to your PPR story. Feel free to send me a mail anytime you need encouragement.

[quote author=DadR post=78600486]Madam, I share your pain and worries. Firstly, IMO, I think you need to pray for God's direction and confirmation that going to Canada is His will for you and your family. If this is so, then you'll pray again for God to touch the heart of your husband, and everything other things will just fall into place. Secondly, don't argue or talk about it with him again, just keep praying. The God that controls the hearts of kings and princes will touch his heart and make him to comply, if this is His will for you and yours.

Cheers.

Hakuna

Sis you seem to have forgotten that the heart of the king is in God's hand and he Turneth it wherever it pleases him, why have you decided to give up so easily. Do you think those that their husband refused initially didnt feel the way you are feeling now a d of a sudden they changed their minds bringing the turnaround the women in those shoes needed. Why not you say to yourself we'll cross the bridge when we get there. Him accepting to sit for the exam alone for me is a green light from God which signifies you to hang in there.

Have you ever heard the saying that when people throw stones at you, what matters is what you do with those stones, some people will either throw back the stones, some will run away but I tell you some will build shops, some houses and few others mansion. My sis you sure dont want me to start relating my own story to you; it's until you visit other people farm before you discover if or if not your farm is the biggest.

Please hold on tight to faith and not fate, garnish your faith with prayers. Am very sure it will end in praise las las.

Don't be discouraged, I've practically been in your shoes. My husband vehemently refused to support me the very first times I started talking abt this EE thingy. He blatantly said I was crazy if I thought I could survive alone with the kids over there. But you know what I did? I started my ECA, did my first ielts without his support and kept gathering info about d whole process, also asking God to touch his heart. How God did it I didn't know, today my husband is the one pushing me to make head way with this journey. Sometimes he calls and say 'mama when are you talking me to Canada, the while process is taking too long'. Men sometimes can be selfish especially if they feel they have their dream job here in Nigeria. BTW, my hubby is a doctor serving in the military. Bottomline is 'never give up on your dream, no matter who is discouraging you'
NB: My findings from friends who live in Canny made me realise that a woman can actually survive alone with her kids over there, it isn't Naija where everything is hard. I've heard of some women working two jobs to enable them pay bills, I'm not encouraging you to separate from your hubby, but he can always visit you guys as long as you don't exclude him from the application.

Congratulations on your PPR.

Thank you for sharing your sponsorship story. Your journey is indeed one of patience. You are victorious because you did not give up. Your girlfriend turned wife is a real one.

I have decided not to grade your script because it is a novel one. As a veteran on this thread since part 3, you deserve this badge of patience.

All the best in Canada.

Raconteur14:
It's been a long while I have been here. Decided to share my PPR story even though I didn't get it through express entry.

I share this to encourage someone. Be patient, keep at it and God would bring your own testimony for you.

I couldn't keep up with the thread from Part 3 because my situation wasn't changing. I am pretty sure that people we started together then are well settled in Canada now. But I am just so glad that God showed up for me this way. It's only him!

Re: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program - Connect Here Part 8 by ladymarshall: 6:32am On May 22, 2019
Perhaps @ bolded. It depends on your field. In IT or HR for instance, certain certifications matter for the job market. From my research, Canadian experience trumps certifications, generally. However, some have gotten good jobs without either. Do a job search on the jobsites (indeed, monster etc), are there certain certifications required in addition to your experience? That will guide you.

Is your profession a regulated one? (Law, Medicine, Engineering), if yes, the advice is to wait until you get there and begin your licensing exams and bridging education. If your profession is not regulated, the general advice is to wait until a few months after landing and job search before beginning an intensive edu programme like a MA, MBA, MSc, diploma.

Some professions require a few months of bridging programs (trainings, short courses, co-op) to get a foot in the door in the labour market.

If your guts tell you to register for that certification based on its usefulness in the job market, go for it. But keep an open mind, about 50% of newcomers switch their careers for different reasons on landing (choice, inability to get jobs in their field, more lucrative position, what's in-demand in certain provinces etc).

I must commend your futuristic approach to your settlement in Canada smiley

Jenolyfavour:
Please house, I understood also that when you reach Canada, having a Canadian certificate helps you for job search. So my question is what if one gets an online Canadian Certificate. If yes that means one can get it even before landing in Canada?

Sorry to hear about this. But pulling out is a no no!!! Do your ECA and ielts. Keep at it. Do not give up. Pray but give God something to bless. Go for unaccompanying spouse if your scores are high enough (if he still proves stubborn until the end). He will join you later when God redirects him.

Do your best in gathering the POF, talk to everyone you know, and trust God to provide it.

At bolded, oh dear, you will survive and thrive as long as you are determined and work hard. Canada is one of the best places in the world to live as a woman. Your children's future will be more secured in Canada than Nigeria. From my research, there are certain provinces that have post-arrival services and programs directed specifically at women, mothers (newcomers) to aid their integration, Calgary, Alberta for instance. Ontario and BC too. London Ontario has the one of the most concentration of single African mothers who have bought their first homes. I'm sure other provinces too will have their packages catering for mother demographics. Do not fear. Canada is a land of opportunities, if you are determined to work hard, stay focused and manage your expectations.

Also follow this thread regularly to sustain your motivation. Reading the efforts fellow Nigerians are making at the Canadian dream and successful PPR stories will continue to motivate you and keep up your positive energy.

I once saw a quote on a PPR story, it said "when you really want something, the universe moves everything possible in your direction to get it", the law of attraction. You are in my prayers. All the best to you.

Please let me add here that two are better than one because they have a better reward for their labor. It wasn’t smooth sailing for me until I got my wife on the same page with me. Couples please unite together to make this dream a reality for your family. God bless!!!
A sincere appreciation goes to everyone who helped us in the course of this journey (My brother in Australia, my sister in-law in Lagos, hmm, I so much disturbed her with IELTS palaver, my dear wife, and to myself for not giving up.
Lastly, pardon my plenty grammatical errors. It took me so long to put this up, but I feel indebted to this great forum that keeps changing lives.
