Hello everyone! This thread has been awesome and really helpful. Thanks y'all. I've been granted admission for my undergraduate program for fall 2019, and I'm currently awaiting my I-20. Concerning this new social media scrutiny policy for visa applicants, what exactly could they be looking for on one's social media and how effective could it be? Because one could easily delete everything implicating on their accounts before the interview

It is a wake-up call to everyone to be mindful of comments and contents posted online.
The homeland security is looking at bolstering her intelligence by monitoring activities and behaviors online.
The truth is nothing can be said about how or when the VO would need to look into one's social handle.
We just need to be careful with what we post.

Good morning friends and fam,

I am planning to apply to a masters degree program in one or two universities in the US. When I went through their requirement, they said no test is needed for my course except toefl. Should I still do GRE or i shouldn't bother?

Secondly, where do I get the letter of recommendation from? Can I get it from any professor or doctor in any university or higher institutions. And please, how should the format look like?

Thank you fam!

When you decide to apply to a school, do you choose the school because of their requirements or because of your career plan?

On a normal day, one takes the GRE exams before even applying to schools of interest.
So if you're looking for reasons to take the exams, I did say you're more likely to offset the odds if you take GRE.

You can get recommendations from anyone ( Professional or Academic) that can speak good for you.

I for one didn't use any academic recommendations in all my applications.

Thank you for your response God bless you big. I chose the school because it is my career plan. I studied geology in my undergraduate and I want to further in master of geology.

And from the requirement of that department and course in particular it was written that no test is required.

To the gurus on this platform, please on the Ds-160 form . When asked who is paying for your trip. Should I put who is paying for the travel ticket or the university contact ( I have been awarded a full ride scholarship by the university).

Please, quick response.

The trip is not necessarily your flight fee.
So put the University.

If you got a full scholarship, you can choose self or parents. That's who is paying for the remaining things left like flight fee, little cash to settle down and the likes.

Please gurus in the house , my question now is , the sevis fee , they gave me an account to pay into from the homeland security website through western union . Can I pay through any bank in Nigeria or they have their own designated bank like in the case of gtbank with visit visa . Should I pay through servisexpress, I don’t trust them , their website don’t have the security code in the top which mean their website isn’t secured .

Make una help me . Nah fall admission . Should be there before August for international student orientations .

I’m opting for Abuja too , I’m just scared of the Lagos embassy , I have heard a lot of funny story coming from there .

Will love the gurus in the house to help me out . So I can pay on Thursday that isn’t public holiday .

My F1 visa was approved last Tuesday. I was advised to pick up my passport 48hours afterwards.

Wednesday was a public holiday. Thursday and Friday were working days. However, my passport is still at the embassy when I tracked it this morning.

My school resumes in 2 days. I have sent the embassy a message but no reply yet. What can I do?

Please can some advice me on the matter at hand. I applied for US F1-Visa on May 1st 2019 before the Drop box was canceled on May 14th 2019. Unfortunately I arrived in Nigeria on May 16 2019 so I could not use the Drop box option again. Now I am trying to book an appointment but when I reach the 'Schedule Consular Appointment' Page; it tells me "There are currently no available". Any one else facing the same problem. Your help will be much appreciated God Bless you.

PLEASE NOTE: I cannot see a Calendar (At least it would be fair to see all unavailable and booked slots)

I know the earliest date availability is unique to each person depending on various factors.
Kindly reach the helpline for support.

Good morning nairalanders
I was denied this morning at the Lagos U.S embassy, here's my transcript
VO: Good morning
.
.
.
Me: I am going to the US for my masters degree program in computer and information science at southeast Missouri State University

Me: my step father
VO: he's a business man and he's into oil and gas business with a couple of gas stations and he's also one of the dangote cement distributor for the southwest zone.
VO: what will the course do for you?
Me: the course will equip me with the challenges of developing and implementing new technologies and also improve on the existing ones bcoz technology on daily basis advances which makes many companies in different industries span to improve their computer network and incorporate new technologies as well as securing their information and is going to help me get a higher position for me at where I currently work cuts in

Sincerely, this was all she asked, any opinion on what could be the reason for denial. Thanks
I noticed that you have not received any reviews on this interview experience and I felt I could wade in...

Firstly, are you aware that the CIS program of SEMO is listed on their website as an Online program. Somehow I chanced to be in the know.

Secondly, you gave an uninspiring response on the reason for your chosen Course. Your response shows no clear vision and consistency. You must improve on this question if you ever plan to refire .

Finally, I'd advice you don't go back with that school. You may need to write the needed exams and and check out other schools, ensuring also that there's no leak regarding Sponsorship.

Best luck in your future endeavors!

If the consulate says there is nothing they can do, there is nothing else to do than wait.
They are the only decision makers.

Firstly, congratulations on your approval, please post your interview transcript. Keep contacting them, or be patient, they would reply. Is there any way you can contact the pick up center? I think you also should. If in the end you are unable to get your passport before the program start date, contact your DSO for an extension letter.
