Good evening everyone. I am a graduate of human physiology from Unilorin. A friend told me about threads like this on nairaland. I want to apply for Ph.d in Physiology/neuroscience/molecular biology in American schools. I graduated with Second Class Upper (3.8/5). Do I stand a chance for scholarship? Can I get into top 50 universities for these disciplines? @Time2Win @Time2Smile @Sherlock @Tactmayor

Thanks.

Hello gurus in the house... When you have many schools to apply to, for admission; and each has its own application fees, amounting to large sum of money.
In this case, is there any way to get application fee waiver!

Application waivers are almost exclusively reserved for domestic applicants; as an international applicant, you have no choice but to pay. In this case it's always preferable to cut down the number of schools to a reasonable size.

It's not only for domestic students. Most schools give application waiver for international students, you just need to ask them

Hi. You can mail some schools requesting for application fee waivers stating your inability to cover the costs atm. You might get lucky. Also, you should be on the lookout for schools that provide application fee waivers like Renneselaer Polytechnic institute, IIT, Rice, etc. Colorado state Uni allows you to apply for free and you only get to pay the app fee after you've been admitted. Some schools also provide waivers when they're celebrating an anniversary or something of the sort. Last year, for instance, university of Maryland college park provided waivers for PHD applications in the electrical department.

You could also get waivers from attending webinars organised by these schools. I know Northeastern does this too.

The point is to always be on the lookout for waivers while you mail schools requesting for such.

Goodluck.

I'm telling you out of experience. If you like go and spend all the money you have on application fees, i see you have so much money. Infact, all the schools I got full funding from were free application. I can count 10 schools that waived my application fee.

No be fight sir; the fact that all your schools waived your app fees cannot translate to most schools in America. Have a Good Day cheesy

When I mean most, i mean many schools. I don't mean all. Top schools with plenty applicants mostly don't waive, only few do that in top schools. Just telling you so you grab the opportunity and not waste money. Most schools do waive it.

To the school's graduate coordinator. The contract email address is usually on the school's graduate website.

Is there a standard on how the GPA is calculated, in the process of converting 5 grade system to 4? Do schools consider the last 60credits of studies (which usually correspond to 300&400l) or the entire credits (100 to 400l) taken during studies are considered?

The answer is yes, although a quite number of the US graduate admissions process, you don't always need GRE scores for graduate schools. At the end of the day, there are many graduate schools that don't require the GRE for specific programs.

For more information on scholarship opportunities, school admission, passing your admission (SAT, GRE, GMAT) and language proficiency tests (IELTS, TOEFL, PTE), Canadian and Australian Permanent Residence, please visit www.mcfedututors.com or contact 08056516226 (whatsapp) and mobile 09013873785

You should check the departmental website for the specific admission requirements or contact the program graduate coordinator or better still do both!!

This may be difficult to ascertain since different schools make use of different conversion types.
Search online for "WES unofficial". The value you get after inputting your grades and credit units would give you a tentative CGPA. Try using WES unofficial for both the 100-400L GPA and the GPA for the last two years. Then compare both CGPAs. There may be some similarity with what the program you apply for gets as your CGPA over 4.

Thanks my man for the prompt response to my questions.

Actually, I did both, and for the 100-400l, I got 3.62 while for the last two years, I got 3.71. Meanwhile, the school I am eyeing said the average GPA for their admitted schools is 3.71, so I am kinda confused on the particular method they used to get the '3.71'

Using GPA of your last two academic session is common in Canadian schools, Only Few schools in USA use that. Try use your overall GPA
