Ike Ekweremadu, former deputy Senate President, has said his decision to contest again for the position at the formation of the 9th Senate is to protest against the invasion of the National Assembly last year.

Mr Ekweremadu who did not indicate interest to aspire for the position until few hours to the election of principal officers at the National Assembly was nominated by his colleagues at the red chamber.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker was however defeated by the preferred candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.

Mr Omo-Agege was alleged to have led thugs to invade and cart away the symbolic power of the red chamber last year.

Despite being indicted by the Senate committee that investigated the incident, the APC lawmaker was not prosecuted.

Mr Ekweremadu presided over plenary when the thugs struck and took away the mace from the red chamber. The upper legislative chamber symbol of power was later found under a bridge in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

The invasion of the eight senate by thug Omo-agege is an APC script at removing Saraki that failed woefully.


Ever since that shame of invasion , no one has been arrested nor prosecuted by the corrupt APC govt of change.
Instead, the thug is being rewarded with DSP.

Serious candidates campaigned vigorously for 3 months, deploying resources and Senator Ike Ekweremmadu wanted to sneak in through the back door at eleventh hour. It was crass opportunistic move, which he will now live to regret as it has yanked off a generous chunk off his political value. The fact that he is struggling and sweating to explain away or excuse this political blunder says a lot about the damage he brought upon himself. Life goes on, anyway.

Hmmm... Giving excuses for failure. If he was actually guilty and not a setup by Saraki and his gang, he would have been dealt with seriously.
There is possibility of taking or protecting the mace from being hijack to pave way to impeach Saraki and later seen an opportunity to use it against him.
