It's a simple matter that he is trying so vaingloriously to defend. It was a choice between the National Stadium Abuja & UniLag... its not as if it was a big deal, most people were only concerned about the dilapidated state of the stadium, hence the discussions in the first place.


He is so out of tune that he doesn't know that 95% of the top ranked universities in the world know UniLag. It might not be as prestigious as higher ranked universities, but it is well known enough to be reckoned with anywhere.

I can talk about my Alma mater the way I have done, because I can see that it is no longer what it used to be, so that the those in power over there, know how far it has declined, and they can fix it.

And as for my degrees, I had one of the best results in my set, at both undergraduate and PG level. Just pray, that you get to my level of achievement in UNILAG, one day. Because you still sound like a JAMB candidate, seeking for admission.... Now go forth, and wallow in pain once more....

Alumni of unilag in 2012 rejected GEJ's directive on the premise that the name unilag was a brand, highly respected and recognised worldwide and to change the name will be to rob it of some of its prestige gathered over the years. It's a matter that shouldn't have elicited more than 1 or 2 quotes, after all, the FG did what he feels was right, so why he is running down UniLag to prove his point is absurd. Its a like a man belittling his mother just to please his girlfriend... It makes no sense.


UniLag would have embodied the concept of remembering MKO because graduates would have carried that name with them for life...

Any achievements would have been traced back to the Alma mater thereby gaining more prominence, just look at the present VP & SotH, both alumnus, look at Oby, former world Bank VP... Look at Adeboye, look at elumelu... There cannot be talk about those people without referencing their Alma maters...


But in my humble opinion, a stadium does not carry that same resonating effect... Who remembers the stadium the golden eaglets won the gold in Atlanta 96? One has to Google it to even recall...

When footballers are remembered, the first thing is the name of the club they played for & throphies won, not the name of the stadium...

Sports facilities are 'stagnant' structures with no resonating effect beyond their specific intended use at that specific point in time.

Its not as if the Abuja stadium is the largest in Africa or the finest or the most utilised... There is nothing spectacular about it. I don't think it's even in the top ten largest stadiums. It's certainly not the finest in Africa... So what's unique about it?

However, an educational institution like UniLag, resonates beyond its structures... warts & all, Its name resonates beyond its primary purposes of education & character... It produces thousands of 'replicas' that would hopefully go on to great achievements...

The VP was at the last convocation lecture to speak about the past success, present challenges and future prospects for the school. I will not pretend that all is well with my Alma mater, when I know it is not. I will not lie about its' current status, simply because it offends people like you who want to play the ostrich.

A million Osinbajos, hailing 'Lag to the highest heavens, will not wipe away the fact that standards in the institution have declined, (like in every other public university in Nigeria) and it's days of glory have waned.

Now, all I have done is to proffer reasons why the stadium would be a better way to immortalise MKO, than the renaming of a university. But in your deluded mind, you chose to interprete it, as belittling my Alma mater. It shows how minuscule your thought processes have become.

Last time I checked, people were free to disagree on topics, or any subject of interest on this platform. No law says two individuals must share the same perspective on any issue.
