Sorry about that. We are here to help ourselves and we all learn from the experience of others.
So don't feel bad. You'll be surprised what you learn when you post your transcript.

thank you

You won't share transcript but you are giving advice, you are mostly likely on AP, if whatever is being verified is genuine, sharing your transcript or Fasting and praying won't change the outcome. Na waah for Nigerians sha.....

Delaztyx:
See en , for those who have interview next week.....u see that question " How did u hear about this school?"
...Avoid that part that that u heard from an alumni, even if u must say so..be sure to let the VO know the alumni is back to Nigeria and working.
Stick to the fact that you did personal research and of a truth do your personal research. cheesy

I just did a background check on her and I guess she just joined nairaland today, probably she has no idea on how the email works...
. Exactly my point! The way people jump to conclusions on this thread is unethical, not everyone is an inherent liar, most don’t truly know somethings and incase we are getting it mixed up,thats the exact reason this thread is made,to ask questions and clarification not for some holier than thou to start labeling everyone!

What is unethical is exploring the idea of dishonestly circumventing rules and procedure solely to your own benefit. It appears you have no idea what the term means.

I don’t think any rational human buys the over-worn idea that people are ignorant. There is no ignorance to willfully trying to bend the rules. You don’t need a billboard to tell you it is wrong to attempt to use another email account to get around not being able to obtain an interview date... and I’m sorry, I have zero patience for people like you who drone on about being “holier-than-thou”.

Why are you all dying to go to school in the US? Because it is an ordered society where people (allegedly holier than thous) follow rules.

Why can’t you go to a school in Nigeria? Because it is filled with people who think rules are meant for others.

Me: Good morning
VO- good morning

VO- can I have your passport
Pass and your 1-20
Me: I did

VO: how many times have you been to the US?
Me: 3 times
VO: what was the longest you stayed ?
Me: about 4 weeks

Where do you work right now?
I mentioned the name of the company .
She signaled to me to repeat. Which I did. I guess she’ was trying to confirm what was on my DS-160.

VO: how long have you been working there?
Me: A year and some months

VO: how did you know about the school?
Me: it was highly recommended by my uncle who happens to be my sponsor.
I also did more online research about it. I was also able to visit the school on one of my visits.

VO: Did you pick any other sch?
Me: yes . University of Texas in Dallas

VO: what made you go with this school (University of Dallas)
Me: The recommendation from my Uncle. They offer a course I want to study Information Technology and management which happens to have a detailed course content that Aligns with my career goals.

Types for a bit with a neutral facial expression. Probably Satisfied with my answers

I think I relaxed at this point
She raised her head and asked

Why this course ?

I was honestly caught unaware. I wanted to speak then I stuttered and I started again.
I responded : The tech industry in Nigeria is a booming sector . After i obtain my MSc in Information Technology, coupled with my Bsc in Computer Science and the work experience I have gathered as a Data analyst , I would be equipped with more knowledge and experience bla bla. ( honestly at this point I lost composure )
To be qualified and fit to work in reputable organizations and also my contribute to my uncles tech company ... bla bla

She asked the question again
Why this course?

I had to find how to repeat myself but I know and remember that I didn’t repeat what I said earlier word for word ( and it’s very possible that what I said earlier wasn’t satisfactory, hence her reason for asking again)

She then interrupted and asked

What companies are you looking to work in when you return ; I said Microsoft, Intel, ( I feel like I should have mentioned just one organization) to make it seem like there’s a certain organization and post I’m looking to go after when I return with my MSC

VO : on your last trip to the US did you stay with your Uncle . I said Yes . She was the one that used her mouth to say UNCLE ( and I actually remembered that I’ve been asked this question either on my DS-160 for my B1/B2 or at the point of entry during one of my visits to the US and it has always been my Aunty)
I now said and also , my AUnty . We are also related. In the most hasty tone ever

I’m sorry. You’re not eligible for this visa at this time.
On this paper ( hands me the pink sheet) you will find the reasons why .

Me: Takes the sheet and the rest of my documents on the slab and with a big “fakest “ smile . Thank you .

Your uncle got the school for you
Your uncle also made you choose the school

(Very few escape denial with this type of response)

You're expected to have detailed reasons for choosing your intended school.

Don't ever have the feeling that the VO is impressed due to facial expressions. Your response to how did you hear about the school and why this school is nothing to impress .

I think you need some drilling on how questions should be answered.

Book another date. God will see you through

I figured that as well. I though I had it all together. Lost my confidence as well. When do you think I will get my profile updated. Want to re apply and I will surely post my transcript this time before going. More so I had plenty of funding. Over 200k usd at my disposable. The intention was to work for his start up when I come back to Nigeria. I think I should have mentioned that as well. Sigh

Well I am not sorry I also have ZERO tolerance for people like you. In my experience, there is no magic to US visas...

1. Have a clear idea why you want to school in the US. If it’s simply an immigration route, you’ll have problems answering simple questions at your interview.

2. Know how much it costs and how you are going to pay for it every step of the way. Aside from the interview, I have seen people come here and drop out after a year because they underestimated the cost of living and other expenses. this also eliminates having to scramble for SOAs last minute and the need to explain and explain.

3. Understand why YOU selected your school and program of choice. Too often I see people claiming they selected a school based on recommendation from alumni etc. in this age of the Internet, that is a poor reason.

4. Figure out how that program can benefit you after you’re done. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but it has to be coherent, sensible and concise.

Above all, ALWAYS be honest. It’s not holier than thou, it’s in your bible (for all those claiming gods favor), it benefits you and everyone else benefits. It really is that simple.

You’re all over the place. Good luck with further visa restrictions on the rest of you.

Any American can go school wherever they so choose, without the need for visas and humiliating visa interviews I might add. That’s not an attribute unique to you. You were asking if you could use another email to circumvent US consulate rules. Well how else do you define a cheat?

How much money you have is only of value to fellow Nigerians who view your bank account as evidence of your status. It means nothing elsewhere. You’re no better than a Guatemalan refugee seeking entry at a US border.

Im sure you didn't take any standardized exam thats why you would pick Udallas over UTD, did you get admission for UTD? If you did you would definitely have gotten instate tuition, Utd has the same information technology and management program and JSOM is highly ranked, your chances would have been better going with UTD. Udallas is even more expensive to attend than UTD, I suggest you shelve the idea of applying again go write GRE score high, apply to UTD get instate scholarship and get your visa.

I did take GRE but did not meet UTD cut off. Guess I was impatient just wanted to get it over with my masters so I can move on with my life. Plus my sponsor went to the same school and he was willing. Didnt want to stress writing the test all over again. already paid the Visa fee. Will just have to be more confident this time and keep my fingers crossed.

The VO must have been uncomfortable with the fact that your relative in the US had a major role to play in how you heard about the school, why you are going to the school, and where you have been staying during your visits.

You have to make your home ties stand out during the next interview.
