both Guinea and Madagascar are fast , also they are comfortable playing long ball ... we will need Mikel to slow things down for us in our next game . if not this people will make the super Eagles gas out couple with the Egypt climatic condition

Sir, no game is the same and we will take every match as it comes. I'm pretty sure the boys and the coaching crew are watching closely.

We can only improve - a win in our next match will fire us into the next round - it's achievable. smiley

We are playing more possession based for now and Akpeyi is the best with his feet. Fun watching him though. But, the guy is too nervy. His lob over a forward of Burundi was a joy to watch.

Bro ezenwa is miles better than apkeyi....very composed his major weakness is aerial duels but other factors that a goalkeeper should have he has it all ...rohr should consider this dude he is the best option

I feel Mikel was over worked. Doing a lot of forward plays to assist Onuachu was a bit too tasking. Mikel is best orchestrating with metronomic passes and the role today did not give him much opportunity to create.

I think Mikel should have drifted more back than forward to cause damage. Kudos for his effort.

I don't want to see Mikel in the starting line up for the next game.

That 2nd half team and setup should be our starting 11 going forward.

League wey player dey play really matters
Ola Aina is a good player cos I knew Idowu,Echijele and Shehu are not better even before WC.

Ola Aina and Ebuehi competing as RB would be like Maicon and Danny Alves then of Brazil.

Why do people hate shehu so much despite the guy putting in a decent shift before he got injured. Not nice at all

To be candid, he is the 2nd most "hated" player in the team, just behind Akpeyi.

I don't know what some people have been tearing their shirts for over Akpeyi's performance tonight.

Special praise goes to Ola Aina. He was just too comfortable in his role and made it look too easy. Hardly left gaps in his play and combined well with Omeruo (Young General) in his defensive duties.

I have not seen such comfort at the LB role since Celestine Babayaro and can not wait to see how Ola Aina performs on the right where he can give deadly crosses.

How can you say you have not seen when Taiwo Taye was miles better than Celestine Babayaro?

Check these

Check the recovery n attacking third pass of both Etebo n Ndidi...

It is going to be a tough call for Rohr to drop Mikel on bench then like I said earlier iwobi might not last the whole duration cos of the weather.. He almost gas out at the last mins of the encounter...

I have said it before don't expect many goals at the beginning... Our second game might produced two goals...

I'm very pleased with this game, now we can have a free ride to last 16.

Chief I think we all have our choice players.

Hope you remember some want Echijele over Aina even in this Afcon.

A nervous Akpeyi is better than Ezenwa and Uzoho.

It's a pity some players scammed us making last WC team.

Nothing happen my man.

Mikel had a woeful performance today and if icon baba said he don't want to see Mikel,no issue. That's football talk.

Do not be surprised if the same Icon4s rooted again for Mikel base on his performance.

Oh Darkeff my man you want to justify your earlier stand on Mikel.

Oh just our first match, let see may be Mikel would convince you or not.Remember he was man of the match against Zimbabwe and 2nd best rated player against Senegal.

Truly Mikel i saw today was damn woeful.

It was a good game overall for Nigeria.

There are no more minows in African football. We have all seen what Zimbabwe, Uganda, Burundi and Madagascar can do. This to me this will be one of the most keenly contested AFCONs ever.

Back to our game.
The defense had some shaky moments particularly in the first half. But they grew in confidence as the game progressed. The Ekong-Omeruo CB was just a delight to watch. I am not an Apostle of throwing in too many new players in CB positions. And we have seen how Balogun, Ekong and Omeruo have developed a strong chemistry at the back over the years.

Our Full backs too did well. Aina was a delight to watch, Shehu until his injury also did ok. Awaziem came in to prove why Rohr picked him and not Semi Ajayi.

In the middle Etebor and Ndidi combined well, though Etebor had some few Crazy moments. Mikel didn't particularly have a good game. I have never seen Mikel being this poor in so many years. He didn't do enough to link up play with the attackers.

When I saw Iwobi starting from wings I was like "why crowd your team with natural wingers when u will still play Iwobi from the wings"?. Musa for Mikel's substitution was expected. Musa brought pace and more attacking flair but his final balls were mostly disappointing. Chukwueze had a great game but he needs to learn to play more with his AM and CF. He was often isolated. Iwobi's move to the AM role brought spark to our attack and we dominated play more. Rohr should please keep playing Iwobi in the AM role.

I was particularly disappointed seeing Onuachu in the starting line up. I am still not completely sold on that guy. He struggled with his positioning but the lack of quality balls from the midfield obviously affected him. Ighalo, got the job done. He was at the right place at the right time. And remained calm enough to make the right decision. And eaqully worthy of mention was the sexy pass from Aina. Games like this requires a moment of brilliance to break the ice and that was it.

Akpeyi, in my opinion had one of his best games in the GWG. Though he had one or two lapses, particularly when he dropped a ball in the 18yards box that almost caused an equalizer. And another harmless goal kick he was supposed to guide costing us a corner. He didn't have a great game but he was very much ok.

I particularly liked the intensity with which we played the second half. And I also like the fact that we were able make good passes together.

Rohr please our start 11 should be the team that ended that game. If Shehu recorvers well enough he can start else Awaziem can start at RB. Aina should be maintained in the LB position.

We take it a game at a time.

Bring on Guinea.
