These questions for middle 4 students?

Me wey study geography for a reputable federal university, throughout my 4years of studying , I wasn’t given these kind of questions in any of my exams.

Little wonder people with just ordinary school certificates were better than the nowaday graduates

The way students score above 300 in jamb these days makes me doubt the standard of our educational system.

I was chating with a freasher the other day about the quality of the exams we write in Nigeria. The guy was like students of nowadays are smarter than those in the past.

I couldn't help but laugh

Is he sure he can't attempt those Geog question? Even if you were not taught exactly what they pit there, of course, you must have been taught in advance, courses that should give you an advance insight to answer those questions. The truth is that no department of geography in any varsity in Nigeria is teaching O' level geography. However, by going advance, equips one to tackle O' level geography in Secondary schools.

Look at all this Olodos forming efiko... So those questions are simple for a WAEC student of this generation... So ya'll can draw the map and identify where vines are grown? Ya'll know where the rain falls heaviest?
I bet ya'll didn't read those questions thoroughly cuz I'm sure some of you "graduates" today can't answer that.

but that no 1 to 10 looks like the question I answered during my NECO exam. Any good geography student that fails the first 10 questions should be flogged.

I think questions then was more tactical and complex than the new generation cheap questions.
I stumble on my Father's standard Six Mathematics Textbook and I was amazed by the type of exposure it expiates on them during those days.

Test your knowledge on that exam. Your score will make you appreciate Buhari's education in North. Everyone that questioned Buhari's scholarship should be given this exam to write.

I am tempted to call you a liar, but won't.

So, you mean to say you were never given a map to read and locate places? How did you study geography and you can't draw the map of Africa? At least at the secondary level, Nigeria should do.

This isn't a subject to drag on. Open an SSCE geography text book and you'll see a modified version of those questions under map reading since you never taught your students.

This type of question is not found under Map reading but under Regional geography/Africa

Thank you my brother, I wanted to ask him the same question too. Like I said in my previous post, a good geography student should be able to answer all the first 10questions. A graduate of geography is not even ashame to say these questions are tough. If you check waec syllabus from 1999-2003 you'll find these same topics there. Most of the lectures we have today are very lazy set of people, they still teach with the handouts they used in back in the days. Most times they set soft questions so that their student will not fail. They keep repeating past questions every year.

Without the map you can't provide answers, Get well sharpened pencil and shade the particular region you were requested to shade. It's just like drawing map of Nigeria and shade places/states that you can find coal, rubber, gold, crude oil , peanut, tropical, Savannah, rain forest etc

Nigerians are so bloody pretentious, look at all of them forming Einstein online, claiming to easily answer these questions, yet 73 years later with these "geniuses" we have most of the worst planned urban areas in Africa with some of these mumus currently battling erosion and flooding and blaming government for all their woes.

The average SS2 student would definitely be challenged by those geography questions and thats even with all the technological advancements this generation enjoys (things like google map on your phone won't alow you to think for yourself)

Nice discovery by the OP.

Frankly, all it does is remind us of the essence and focus of colonial era “education” - where and how to access/extract Africa’s resources! SMH

Quite frankly, these questions are cheap.
Besides the historical questions, a sound SS 2 student of geography in his/her 2nd term should be able to attempt all the questions.

Similarly, an SS2 student of History should be able to answer the history questions effortlessly.

But the question is, what is the equivalent of middle IV in today's education system?

Make no mistake in deceiving yourself. I have been out of Secondary schjool at least 20 years, but i affirm that school children of nowadays are averagely smarter. The past glory is nostalgic.... The major advantage they now have which we never had is technology and easier access to information and knowledge acquisition.

I beg to differ sir...

You don't know how badly students of nowadays perform.

I left secondary school about 10 years ago.... I remember comparing the exams (waec and jamb)students wrote in the 70s, 80s and then (2011). It was apparent that the difficulty of the exams has reduced over the years.

Difficulty is relative. Everyone likes to point to the "good old days", but on a deeper look in to the good old days, you begin to question the whereabout of the good in the old days. Good old days is overrated. Nostalgia has a bit of deceit and unrealistic perception in it. That questions are easier now is debatable and not as straightforward you are trying to put it. There was a time WAEC released candidates result some few years ago and the passrate (5 credits inclusive of Maths and English) was put at less than 40%, and a friend was quick to say this current students fail a lot and bla bla. i simply ask him if he knew the passrate in WAEC some 20-30 yrs ago. The stats shows that even with the dismal performance, the performance has continually improved over the years. The pass rate has improved greatly. It is not that the past generations were not intelligent, but the current ones have greater access to knowledge. Information is now at their finger tips. Federal Universities now churn out more First class students . In my first year at a Federal university, there were only 6 First class graduates in the whole school. Now you could have 100 first class graduates who are actually worthy. While i had access also to google and some other knowledge database in early 2000's. The quality of information in the database is not the same as now. If you simply type how to write a project proposal in a search engine like google, you will be overloaded with a plethora of information.

Give the credit to them, they deserve it. It will improve in the coming years
