Yes, it can. We had a male househelp from Benin Republic called "Biaveni" in the 1980s. My father enrolled him in primary school though he was overaged for the class but they had to start him from Primary 1. He was always top of his class. You will not believe that his parents came to take him back to Benin Republic saying they did not send him to Lagos to go to school. He was always treated like one of us. We all sat and dine at the same diner table when it's time to eat. My father was a scholar and did not fit the mentality of a typical Nigerian.

On the other side, my great aunt who was illiterate but was a very successful business woman that used to deal in textiles back in the days at the popular "Kota" market in Lagos had several househelps. She never send any to school. First thing she did then was to give them Yoruba names which I now believe is a wrong thing to have done. But maybe she did that for ease of pronunciation. Though she was a super nice woman when you don't cross her path. In fact she has a name that portray that. But if she is angry, she would use her hands and mouth to throw all the good deeds she did in the past into the ocean.

My point is an educated person is more likely to send an househelp to school compared to an illiterate individual even if the illiterate individual could afford to do so.
