dannywest:
I'm thinking of upgrading my car and I'm down to the following two options:

2008-2011 Honda Accord
2003- 2008 Volvo XC90

I used the accord for a few weeks when my car was bad and liked it, I also like the XC90.

I'd like to know,
1. from experience what's the best variant of either of the above vehicles?
2. What is the cost for replacing engine and transmission for them (usually the biggest single expense)
3. What are common issues?

I maintain cars well (used my last 10 years straight and you won't know) and I rate comfort and drive experience above fuel consumption.
You want to upgrade from which car?

Both vehicles are good choice options.

I don't know the prices of the gear or engine because no one on NL has asked for them, I believe the several engine variants and gear of the cars are good.

common issues.

Accord- Experience the leg pull but extremely rare onlike it's predecessor.

Ignition lockdown, the key would refuse to turn like the steering is locked but the ignition is actually worn, just pour ATF on the key and insert it would work but you need to change the teeth or have them realigned.

VOlvo- Don't buy the T8 engine had a factory error with gear type fixed which causes gear failure.

Other engines with turbo are good but with turbo ensure you use recommended engine oil and you need a qualified technician to fix.

If you have children always cross check interior lightening and exterior lightening because when the car is locked it doesn't automatically switch off all lights left ON (not a Volvo only issue I have also seen Highlander behave that way my sienna on the other hand switches of all electrical left on once key is removed)

Both vehicles do sport leather and Nav screen, Volvo nav screen should have incorporated other useful info, it's a hidden type of nav screen that pops out when needed. Not all the Accord have nav screen though there is a secondary small screen that has information on it.

The Volvo is available with AWD and it's stance is a solid tank stand, body doesn't fall apart and not susceptible to rust as it is well guarded underneath with plastic protectors. The EX and EX-L accord are the top of the line trims with all the bells and whistles of a luxurious car.

Oga you will be fine with any of them

XC90 is an SUV, the accord is a seden, i don't think it's a fair comparism.
In my opinion the Volvo xc90 will flog the accord hands down except for aesthetics which is a personal preference..

The volvo engine & transmission should be cheaper, I don't have figures, expecially for the V6 accord engine/transmission which very expensive..

This is detailed thanks!
I also noticed 2 of the Honda's I came across had the ABS light permanently on (bypassed).
For Leg pull I'm sure that would never happen to me, I change perfectly good parts on my current car according to the manual grin
I think what I need to make my decision is clearer now.

Thanks a lot!

I'm also tilting towards the Volvo I think what puts the Honda in the equation still is the looks.
Honda really pays attention to design.
Thanks for the contribution!

both cars are samething but pick matrix because vibe body parts are expensive. Later models are better than earlier pick 06 or above instead of 04 and below.

E don show the owners pepper.

Newer cars have prohibitive part costs (I got my current car brand new and the cost of parts now and when I got it are like comparing heaven and hell) and are extremely sensitive and considering the economy right now with our maintenance culture..... E get as e be.
Plus a 2015 Benz is 4 years old and would have started showing initial skoin skoin

You don't see it because of the cost of ownership there is global financial crisis. besides 15m is not beans.

price fall due to demand, probably nobody wants to buy an expensive liability

competition also, why buy an expensive badge when the competition is just as good (IS350, G35, Acura IL etc)

My chairmen in the house,
Pls, will like you to throw more light on the pilot (I don come again....lol) regarding the AWD.
Will like to know if the AWD comes with an option of usage only when needed or its by default wholly AWD.

Apparently.

There's seems to be a silver lining though, I did a quick search on nairaland and only managed to find one person who wanted to buy. It appears that engine hardly ever dies.

Honda J-series engines will live forever with basic maintenance.

Re: The Official Car Comparison/Recommendation Thread by jceesquare(m): 3:20pm On Jul 09, 2019
What most people don't understand is that a car manufacturer can use same engine for different line of cars and for years, but with different modifications and power output.
They may look the same, have same external components, but trust me the intestines and organs have been modified and upgraded.
Reason why I respect GAZZUZZ with his taste when it comes to buying engine. Saw what he did on the accord and other engines he gets.
Before you pay for any engine, try and run a little history check to know if that engine has same power output and right for your car.
