A Federal Capital Territory Magistrate Court has granted bail to Senator Elisha Abbo in the sum of N5million and two sureties in like sum.

Recalls that Abbo was arraigned in court over alleged assault of a nursing mother.

The FCT Police Command has taken Senator Elisha Abbo to the Magistrate Court in Zuba Abuja for arraignment.

Confirming his arraignment to The Nation, the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Bala Ciroma said: “I know you are calling to confirm about the Senator. They are presently on their way to Zuba Magistrate court for his arraignment.”

Reports that Senator Abbo was earlier released due to the absence of the lady he assaulted.

After much protest from Nigerians, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu directed the Commissioner of Police in charge of FCT, CP Bala Ciroma to investigate the matter.

On the number of charges he would be arraigned for, Ciroma said: “I will get back to you on that because I am presently in a meeting.”

The investigation led to the invitation of the Senator to the Command, which further led to his detention on Thursday.

He was, however, released on Friday afternoon after meeting the bail conditions.

He was arraigned on Monday by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police at Zuba Magistrate Court, Abuja after a video of him assaulting the woman went viral.

The Presiding Magistrate, Senior Magistrate Abdullahi Ilellah, said the sureties must have verifiable addresses within the FCT.

Ilellah then adjourned the case to July 22nd for hearing.

Senator Abbo, who was arraigned on Monday on a one-count of assault, pleaded not guilty, Nigeria Tribune reports.

I saw the video, it was disheartening. The truth is most Nigerians always misuse their powers. Moreover how can he plead not guilty to what the world has seen? This case is where we will know if there's true justice in this country.

Our judiciary is a huge problem! Why would a case as this with glaring evidence be delayed?

No matter how well we start protesting in this country, justice won't be served as long as our present judiciary passes judgment on the matter. The law is designed for the poor.

This is obviously the last of the case.

Way to go, I have always said it that those looting our common wealth and those taking us for a ride are just in the minority. If only we all can come out and speak in one voice like in this case then Nigeria will be great. But religion and tribalism will not us

He would have denied assaulting the lady, if not for the video that was used as evidence . He cannot plead not guilty

When a country of about 200 million citizens have this kind of man as a lawmaker, the country will definitely be stagnant. It is a shame that this is what Adamawa can offer as a senator when there are hundreds of better options

While I commend the prosecution of the said senator, in addition, the woman should get herself a lawyer and sue the nitwit. At least, 1m damages for that assault.
