I don't think anybody was good enough to beat Ham on that day.... The dude was on fire, and his last lap (fastest lap of the race on 32laps old hard tyres) was a confirmation of that. With or without the safety car issue, he would have won the race.

So you really think Bottas had a chance... Even though he couldn't manage his tyres, pitted early, and ended up on the wrong tyre strategy?!

With or without the safety car, the minute he pitted and stayed on medium tyres, he was royally fukced, because Ham stayed longer thus was clearly on a one stop strategy, and most importantly, Ham was lapping just as fast as Bottas, before AND after he changed to hard tyres.

Now, if Bottas was clocking half a sec to a sec faster (than Ham) on medium, and therefore put an enough gap in front of Ham, then yes, he could have made a difference , because on his 2nd pit, he would have possibly been very close to Ham again but on soft tyres, and "supposedly" drive pass Ham.

The wrong strategy is what played the biggest role here... IMHO

If Bottas hadn’t pitted before the safety car appeared he would have used same strategy as Ham. At the time he pitted no one expected the safety car. Ham took advantage of the Safety car to change his race strategy.

With the time advantage Ham got as a result of SC and seeing he (Bottas) is on a back foot Bottas had no motivation to chase the race any longer.

A) All of this is a strategy error... Bottas should have pitted a second time when the safety car came in (just like Verstappen etc did), and he would have had a chance to challenge Ham on equal ground...when they didn't, then That's what fukced his race. YES the safety was a major turn around but the main problem was Mercedes STRATEGY (for Bottas) that was completely wrong.

B) look at the data, even if safety car hadn't come, Ham was already ahead of Bottas, and would have pitted and come out in front. As soon as Bottas pitted, and ham slammed on that hammer time, it was a done deal.
The only person who truly benefitted from safety car was Vettel who was slower than everyone else, in 5th place, and thanks to safety car ended up 2nd,

Anybody arguing Hamilton has not been beneficiary of good fortune is not being objective. This is not an indictment on his skills but don't tell me he's not had some good fortune on the way. Not hearing that

Hamilton has been a beneficiary of misfortune to other driver's and even his teammates caused by no fault of theirs. If I'm hoping that he endures that for a more interesting title race then let a nigga live

Make we bone that thing. Why do people act like luck is a bad thing? Even Hamilton openly hopes for luck in races he initially has no hope of winning.

I recall him pretty much hoping for a miracle in Singapore in 2017 when he started 5th or 6th and he got his wish. Was he not lucky when Bottas suffered that puncture in Azerbaijan?

He also had that when the rain came from nowhere in Germany where he was down in 12th or 14th. Which of that was down to his brilliance
