MoneyMan5:Granted, let's assume you were right, that a field of knowledge could actually be considered as being more "important" than the other. Instead of what I would have thought was a shared, equal significance they held to humanity. Let's assume that science and Technology in contrast to the arts were the only fields that actually solved problems, and were the only fields that held tangible benefits to us humans. As absurd as I might have thought this sounded before now let's assume, it were the truth, it would still not make the scientist more intelligent, than the Artist. A person who is intelligent remains intelligent whether he solves problem or not. We call and identify people as intelligent because of an organ...the brain, how it expresses complex thoughts and ideas, through the medium of speech, writing, Engineering, painting and more. What ever medium of interest it chooses, and excels in, is totally its concern, and one can never be considered more important than the other. The scientist is just as intelligent and as important as the artist, Shakespeare is just as important to literature as Einstein was to Physics, no more no less, trying to compare people, to bind the bridges between giants in varying fields of knowledge is absurd, because you would not know how Einstein would have fared if he had interest in literature and Shakespeare if he had interest in physis. |

peacesamuel94:You people need to get out more, or just read more. For Christ's sake, even intellectual and intelligent are still not the same thing. Adichie is not even one of the most intelligent female writers from Africa, let alone in the world to ever contribute to literature. She is not even remotely one of the most intelligent women generally. She is just an overhyped writer with 3 novels, 1 collection of short stories, and a small non-fiction book. |

She is not even remotely one of the most intelligent women generally. She is just an overhyped writer with 3 novels, 1 collection of short stories, and a small non-fiction book. Did you if even see how the term intellectual, was used in the sentence,--that it was qualifying something. did you even notice anyone saying it was the same word or another synonym for "intelligent'. if you cannot get that, then getting out more and reading more Is actually Yours to try. Perhaps I should assume the posture of the curious student then. Pls name the women in literature that are more intelligent and have made far greater contribution to literature than adichie. And what is this your basis for rating intelligence |

peacesamuel94:You might want to read this list of the top 10 most intelligent people in the world: https://www.wonderslist.com/10-most-intelligent-people/ While there is at least a writer on the list, the list is dominated by scientists or people inclined to science. And mind you, I never implied that scientists are intelligent simply because of vague concepts (whatever your point was). I am not like TSRC who thinks Adichie is intelligent simply from reading one of her 3 novels. Scientists solve problems, which is one attribute of a very intelligent person. For instance, the scientist Henri Becquerel discovered Radioactivity. Radioactive iodine, for instance, is used to treat thyroid cancer. Alexander Fleming discovered the antibiotics penicillin. Electricity can be generated from uranium. Uranium was discovered by a scientist. |

peacesamuel94:First of all, you have to clarify what you think "contribution" is? Yes, intellectual was qualifying something. Was intelligent not also supposed to qualify something? |

BluntBoy:check again, I was only using ur word, you used it first. So you should do the clarifying, and while at it you should tell why you consider these women more .intelligent than adichie, the bases for your conclusion. |

BluntBoy:Recognition...a list, is your bases for judging who is more important(which I don't think there is) sincerely I expected more, so you judge the prettiest people in your area or state by the list of a few supermodels that come out for the challenge? As at when Gaddafi was alive the Forbes magazine rated Bill Gates over him in wealth in fact did not include him at all, but we know who was wealthier not to talk of Putin, and others. Or if there was an actual singing contest for the 180million people in Nigeria, do you think our top musicians would make the winning list. When you were in school the best students in class were not necessarily the most intelligent just the most hardworking. If this is true for the above how much more then..for the over 7billion diverse people on planet earth No doubt the people you mentioned were really intelligent and opened up new possibilites for our world by their invention and discoveries, but then that is all there is. It doesn't therefore mean that Einstein because he made important contributions to Quantum mechanics and modern physics that he somehow is superior to Shakespeare, Beethoven, and the likes, because you would not know if Einstein would go that far in the arts and Shakespeare in the sciences. Judge people by what they are and not by what they are not. |

peacesamuel94:Bro, you are just putting words in my mouth. I never said intelligence makes one superior to another, as these words can be relative. All I did was differentiate creativity from intelligence. Einstein could be far more intelligent than Shakespeare, not necessarily more superior. My argument was never to rank intelligence over creativity. Someone wrote that all it took him to conclude that Adichie is one of the most intelligent women in the world is a novel. I had to point out that that was not enough while also trying to differentiate creativity from intelligence. There are lot of creative people in the world from shoe cobblers to tailors to fiction writers to musicians, but all these don't translate to high level of intelligence. |

budaatum:That dude is just confusing himself. intelligence /ɪnˈtɛlɪdʒ(ə)ns/ Learn to pronounce noun 1. the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills. "an eminent man of great intelligence" synonyms: intellectual/mental capacity, intellect, mind, brain, brains, brainpower, powers of reasoning, judgement, reason, reasoning, understanding, comprehension, acumen, wit, sense, insight, perceptiveness, perception, perspicaciousness, perspicacity, penetration, discernment, sharpness, quickness of mind, quick-wittedness, smartness, canniness, astuteness, intuition, acuity, alertness, cleverness, brilliance, aptness, ability, giftedness, talent; informalbraininess "a man of great intelligence He has no understanding of all the crap he is been writing there. |
| Re: Chimamanda Adichie & Her Husband, Ivara Dine With Barack & Michelle Obama by BluntBoy(m): 2:24pm On Jul 26, 2019 |
budaatum:You are very correct, although intelligence and creativity are not as straightforwardly interwoven as you have put it. Moreover, I have not even remotely implied that Adichie is not intelligent. I only wrote that she is not one of the most intelligent women in the world. She is creative, no doubt, but that is not a proof of an overly intelligent being. You would be surprised that her IQ is only barely above average. You can't compare her to someone like Marie Curie. |
| Re: Chimamanda Adichie & Her Husband, Ivara Dine With Barack & Michelle Obama by BluntBoy(m): 2:28pm On Jul 26, 2019 |
djon78:Perhaps, you should read the definition you provided and use it to fault my argument. That is better than this cowardly attempt. How am I wrong? I am willing to learn. |

BluntBoy:I wonder the tool you measure IQ with. And a bit, Tyson Ali orange apple, don't you think? I happen to think Adichie is a Marie Curie of her own place and time. She is teaching girls their potential not to rear piglets for a pig who'd get her pregnant and wouldn't even feed it's own piglets which stops her going to school and being a better life for her and her kids. That poor girl could have gone to the moon, twice, or did you think almajeris drop out the sky? Chie is healing a cancer that's killing our country and she's been nominated for a Nobel too! She got my vote! |

| Re: Chimamanda Adichie & Her Husband, Ivara Dine With Barack & Michelle Obama by BluntBoy(m): 6:17pm On Jul 26, 2019 |
budaatum:She was never nominated for a Nobel Prize. And no, she is not the Marie Curie of her own time. She is not even a George Elliot or a Jane Austen. |

peacesamuel94:I will make a list of female authors whose output dwarf Adichie's small outputs of 3 novels. I will also include female writers who invented literary styles that revolutionized literature. First, there is Virginia Woolf who invented the stream of consciousness narrative style which would borrowed by literary giants like James Joyce and the Nobel Prize winner Faulkner. Georgette Heyes invented the genre of Regency Romance. Gertrude Stein provided the deceptively simple style of writing that influenced the male writers like Hemingway (a Nobel prize winner). Then there is Judy Blume known for breaking the norms with taboo subject matters like birth control. Then another rebellious writer, Jane Austen known for her sarcastic attack of perfectionist Victorians. Mary Shelley gave the world the Frankenstein's monster. JK Rowling gave us the most famous wizard in the whole world. Toni Morrison known for perspective switch and for her blazing sarcastic attack of racism. A writer with a unique style of writing. The first and only black woman to have ever won a Nobel prize in Literature. Nadine Gordimer same as Toni Morrison also contributed her voice against racism. She was too good they couldn't deny her a Nobel prize. There are thousands others whose outputs and memorable characters and styles gave us a large portion of the Literature we know today. Do you know that it is a widely claimed that Mary Shelley invented science fiction? Her books Frankenstein and The Last Man laid the foundation of science fiction as a literary genre. |
