You can sugar coat it or make excuses all you want..but deep down you all know there is no nation in the world that has such a "buy it when you need it" approach to war. Look at Bidexi making excuses for the incompetence and corruption of those at the helm if affairs of a nation at war. Just read what this guy is saying? Limited funding? Are you for real? Nigeria just squandered the entire defence budget of Chad and Cameroon combined on 12 Super Tucano, an aircraft that will not survive 10 minutes in contested airspace. The deal in itself shows Nigeria expects to still be at war agaibst Boko Haram by 2022, cos thats when it "might be delivered". This country is a laughing stock. It's approach to security and senseless projects is proof the longevity of this war benefits some people. Army bases are being overrun because there are not enough aircrafts to provide air support. The puny aircrafts we have are stretched to thin and too far out to make any strategic impact. Other country's look at Nigeria and wonder how a rich and powerful nation like Nigeria cannot squash Boko Haram. You cannot blame them. It defies human reasoning.
It will be time wasting arguing with you. You have just proven your high level of ignorance by sitting the super tucano will not last 10 minutes in a contested air and by the way; the super tucano is a COIN asset and the best in its class and what we really need in prosecuting these war.

the money don't only cover the tucano plane...it covers both weaponry (missiles, guided and unguided bombs, training bombs,Hydra rockets and ammo rounds for the cannon) it also cover spare engines two each for one aircraft and that's around 24 spare engines plus other spares and ground equipment for the aircraft....it covers the construction of it's base, hangar and tarmac also six of the tucano will come with more advanced package than the remaining six....so u see the money was pretty much spent well....also the tucano can fire air to air missiles at long range don't underestimate that aircraft because of it's looks it has high maneuverbility than the alpha jet....

What are you saying? When last did you see me post videos here? ...and believe me when i do they are top quality videos. Besides this is not a dick measuring contest. I'm just calling out the absurdity of the Nigerian armed forces. They have no empathy for the poor men they send to the front.
Old or recent post some here and let people judge them. It's easy to criticise other people's work... cry

so u think fighting terrorism is that easy eeh....Now tell me which nation on Earth fought terrorism single handedly without the foreign deployment of troops for combat assistance until they were downgrade to hit and run "Goats" eeh.Terrorism in Syria and Iraq where fought with the help of NATO(that's the combination of super powers) in Somalia with the help of Kenya Burundi Uganda e.t.c in Mali it's like the whole world is there france, Germany,China, Egypt, Netherlands, canada,Chad, senegal, Australia e.t.c in Cameroon France... In Niger France and US in Chad France and US..we only get training assistance from foreign countries...u may say what of the MNJTF yes because all are experiencing the same problem...Nigeria fought BHT till they moved to lake Chad region.. 2016 /2017 was hell for BHT NAF rained down fire and brimstone with the#Punny Aircrafts we have.......

NAF HONOURS AIRMAN WHO RETURNED LOST 37,000 EUROS, GRANTS HIM ACCELERATED PROMOTION TO CORPORAL

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) yesterday, 25 July 2019, granted accelerated promotion to Aircraftman Bashir Umar, who found and returned the sum of 37,000 Euros to Alhaji Ahmad, the owner of the lost money at the Hajj Camp Market at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) Kano. This act of integrity drew the attention of the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, President Mohammadu Buhari, who described it as “uncommon, patriotic and exemplary,” while enjoining Nigerians, especially the youth, to emulate such worthy conduct. With this, the airman, who was promoted 2 steps forward to the rank of Corporal, has not only skipped the rank of Lance Corporal, but has attained a position that would have taken him over 7 years of uninterrupted military service to reach.

Speaking during the decoration ceremony, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, who also presented the Airman with a letter of commendation, expressed extreme delight to be part of the history-making, exemplary conduct of the Airman. He added that the act duly portrayed the good values which the NAF holds in high esteem and this was why an aircraft was specially detailed to airlift the Airman from Kano to Abuja to attend the decoration and award ceremony. According to him, “the special promotion of Aircraftman Bashir to the rank of Corporal, apart from serving as a reward for good conduct, is also to serve as motivation to other airmen and airwomen to aspire for such elevation. Aircraftman Bashir has earned the rank of Corporal by good conduct and as part of our desire to reward uncommon good deeds and excellence, we have chosen to have him decorated in front of his friends, peers and family”, the CAS added. Air Marshal Abubakar equally commended the Air Officer Commanding Air Training Command (AOC ATC), Commander National Air Defence Corp (NADC), Military Airport Commadant MAKIA as well as the ATC Air Warrant Officer and Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) MAKIA for providing the leadership and necessary guidance that had engendered such an admirable act. The CAS, who also used the opportunity to thank the press for their continued support to the NAF over the years, also thanked Aircraftman Bashir’s parents for providing the support and wholesome home environment for the Airman before he joined the Service. “He will continue to need your support, perhaps even more now than ever. I commend you for grooming him with the values that have earned him this accolade”, he said.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chief of Administration Headquarters NAF, Air Vice Marshal Kingsley Lar, noted that the event was being held in keeping with NAF’s tradition of celebrating personnel that perform exceptionally and display such commendable acts. He noted however that the presence of the CAS, along with Branch Chiefs, Directors and other senior officers, at the ceremony to honour Corporal Bashir was a reflection of the premium the Service places on integrity, as one of its core values. He said it was also a reflection of the enabling environment and positive leadership provided by the CAS. He therefore pledged the commitment of NAF personnel to continue to embody, in words and actions, the values for which the NAF is known.

Corporal Bashir Umar was born on the 1st of June 1995 into the family of Mallam Bashir Abdulmumuni and Salamatu Aliyu in Maiha Local Government Area of Adamawa State. He attended Maksha Nursery and Primary School Maiha from 1999 to 2005 where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate. After which he proceeded to Tijjani Boloni College of Arabic and Islamic studies from September 2006 to September 2009, he then proceeded to Maiha Government Secondary School where he obtained his Senior Secondary Certificate Examination in 2012. Corporal Bashir Umar is a graduate of Adamawa State Polytechnics Yola, and holds a diploma in Crime Prevention Management and Control which he obtained in 2016. Corporal Bashir Umar, who is a Regiment Airman, was enlisted into the NAF on 1 August 2016 after his Basic Military Training at the Military Training Centre Kaduna. He is currently serving under the NADC as a member of the Mobile Air Defence Team (MADT) at MAKIA Kano.

Keyboard warriors like you should do a little bit of research before posting.
Your inability to understand what contested or well defended airspace means proves you are the ignorant one. The Super Tucano is too slow and light skinned to survive enemy fire. This was the exact reason the USAF dropped its earlier plans to acquire A-29s as a low cost measure. The risk to the pilots life was just not worth it.

You keep talking about COIN assets and it appears you never learn from history. If 13 Alpha jets and 8 F-7Ni and a complement of L-39s backed by Mi-35 helicopter gunships cannot prevail agaibst Boko Haram that has no credible air defence capabilities, and deny them the ability to operate with impunity, then we have no business having an Air Force.

Smart bombs like JDAMS and guided munitions are useful against fixed high value targets. You gonna expend munitions that cost $50,000 apiece on Boko Haram fighter or Toyota Hillux truck?

Shoulder fired MANPADS will make mince meat of this aircraft. It's too slow, it's service ceiling is too low to avoid anti-aircraft fire. It has no ejector seats. Missions like this is what helicopter gunships and used for. The have the armour and versatility and is cost effective.

What happens if we find ourselves in a situation in which we are forced to defend our airspace or critical infrastructure against air attack? We start shopping for combat aircraft? $650 million will transform the NAF into a 21st century fighting force. By the time the Tucano arrive Boko Harams complement of SAMS would have increased significantly.

All the countries in the world operating Super Tucano have at least an air force with significant air capability. They have fighter jets in numbers that makes strategic sense the TUCANO is used only for complementary and specialized missions.

Nigeria has no airforce. Ten jet trainers and F-7 does not constitute an airforce. Against a near peer adversary the Nigerian airforce will be wiped out within minutes in a suprise attack on the ground.

If the planes manage to take to the sky they will be shot down with little effort. The Super Tucano doe not constitute an air defence or strike asset. We are not getting the bang for the money spent on that propeller driven aircraft. It's a pointless acquisition and won't even arrive until 2022 or 2025. By that time the Nigerian airforce may have ceased to exist.

Dude your comment reeks of ignorance. You are the keyboard warrior and if you do not see the metaphor in the term "least defended airspace" and cite Liberia then you are dumber than I thought. The fact we have to wait nearly a decade for just THREE JF-17 shows how unserious this nation is.

The turbo prop Super Tucano is a waste of much needed money. It's too slow unlikely to be effective in the show of force role. Boko Haram is a highly mobile force. Modern high performance fast jet can move from contact to contact at a high cruise or with after burners reducing reaction times and enabling a large area to be covered with a single aircraft, It sill need longer transit times to its area of operation and that area of operation would need to be much smaller.

In this instance even the fast F-7n jet is so versatile, it can carry out other missions whilst still being able to provide reactive CAS. Also it's low service ceiling means it cannot avoid triple A fire. It's slow speed means it would be in a threat zone for longer than fast jet, turboprops are eminently less survivable than a fast jet, they will be quite easily shot to pieces with weapons of 40 years ago.

Besides, in order to provide the continuous and reactive close air support support for troops that a single fast jet does one would need a significant number of Super Tucano’s to be in the air at the same time. At this point 12 is not nearly enough. The when $650 million scheme is a pointless waste of money

You my friend have just displayed your ignorance to the rest of the world. You have zero clue of what you are doing about. Terrorists are not running amok in the streets of Paris and New York. ISIS is not overunning bases in these countries. The Mali mission is an intervention force. This was what the Nigerian military was once known for....we couldn't even lead A mission to Mali. You are a very ignorant person.

Yes we have advanced ISR platforms but we have just two and they are basically the only long range early warning systems we have in military. You want to know what is rare in Africa? It's rare for a nation to spend billions of dollars annually in security allocation yet NOTHING to show for it. I mentioned for the past 3 years Nigeria has been alloting $1 billion a year for bullets and munitions. ONE BILLION DOLLARS. BILLION.

The entire defence budget of Cameroon in 2018 was $320 million. For Chad $300 million. We spend more on bullets and munitions and operational costs than the entire defence budget of the two strongest militaries in the francophone world. The $650 we spent on 12 turbo prop planes is what morw than what these countries can afford for their entire defence annually. Yet 13 years later you do not see the problem in Nigerian soldiers digging trenches and waiting for Boko Haram to attack because they do not have the necessary armoured vehicles and air cover to go on the offensive. Majority if soldiers still weild AK-47 assault rifles. A quarter of our tank fleet has been wiped out or stolen. Our bases are being overrun. You cannot isolate air power from land forces. Boko Haram is able to do this because the NAF is stretched too thin with obsolete equipment. Each time soldiers brave up and go out on offensive missions without air power they get massacred or ambushed...so now they just did trenches. The Army aviation Corp was a welcome development but there are just too few assets. We have Boko Haram into he north, bandits encroaching down south, the Shiite uprising is rearing its ugly head. Yet the nation's Air Chief is commissioning sewing machine factories, buildings, gym faculties, fish ponds. A nation at war is holding sporting competitions. There is no sense of urgency to squash Boko Haram once and for all and focus on national development. We just keep dragging along on a never ending war of attrition and folks likw you are here giving the criminal and corrupt cronies a round of applause and approval. Unbelievable!!

All this is useless. Will the GBU missile with laser range finder pick up a 5"11 man with a Strela 3 MANPAD waiting ? Can the Super Tucano outclimb or outrun a missile traveling at mach 2 or hyper velocity 33mmm radar guided cannon Boko Haram now wields in abundance. Its slower than the Alpha jet with a much lower service ceiling. How many of these smart weapons are we getting? How much do they cost? What qill they be used against? Toyota pick up trucks? $55,000 per missile.

I suggest you leave this people. Nothing you say will make them see where you are coming from. You are a critical thinker, they are not. They just want to post pictures, they dont think. Ignore them.
So you call people names because they don't agree with your line of thinking? The fact that Afghanistan is using the Tucano for COIN and USA having ordered them for trials as a low cost alternative in uncontested airspace are all not critical thinkers?

Of course, you even know more than the military that ordered it.

When a mission involves Droping explosive devices everything need to be in perfect order. Responsible for ordnance the armament crew makes sure that when the pilot pulls the trigger the weapon successfully launch away from the aircraft towards the target.

Tell me what's critical about that way of thinking generally ? I don't want one say his way of thinking ?
You are confronted by a problem his it not logical to find a solution to it. Tell me a better and cheaper air assets to deliver a blow in COIN that is better than the super tucano..?
I understand he wants us to get the apache, latest Su & Migs...etc
Step by step will get there; Rome was not build in a day.

Go cry to your aunties boy. Its guilt conscience that made you quickly fit yourself into what i described in my post grin

Unless you can refute that;
1) You come once in a while
2) Rant in long lines with your limited knowledge of anything
3)Try to spam the thread
4) Post old pictures when you're caught pants down

You not knowing these pictures have been posted here before shows that that first point is true grin
Now run along infant!b
