Since everyone is sharing thier interview experience, let me share mine too. I had mine on the 9th of July 2019, where i and 5 other candidates where accomplained to the waiting room by a HR officer. I observed we all had studied similar courses in our first degree ( History, tourism, international relations between)buts from different parts of the country. Prior to this, I have tried to prepare for this interview but was uncertain because i had graduated since 2014 plus i practiced as a human resources Officer before starting up a business of my own.

While in the waiting room, I observed there was an active CCTV watching us hence i had to modify my conducts knowing the implication of being an organization misfit. The nice receptionist tried making us feel at ease by informing us it was about being able to display confidence. After two persons, my name was finally called, I stood up and was lead by the panel secretary, a northern man in his mid 30's with a mean look like into the interview room.

My panel was constituted by four persons( two women one roof which was the panel chairperson and two men) . I was offered a seat by the panel chairperson no sooner had i settled they named jocks of my surname which had element of royalty from the Igbo race. Next i was asked to relax as they were my mother's and uncles for the day. The panel chairperson briefly took her leave, then one of the male panelist introduced the panel members. I dashed to pick up my jotter but was halted as he said he believed i must have written i had listening skills. He quickly persued through my CV but couldn't find it. No sooner had he finished, the Chairperson return and refund introduced the panel. She asked if she looked like my mum and i replied she was as beautiful as my mum. She also I required the meaning of my name which i told them, then they refer it to a veteran journalist which luckily enough i was named after. Then they inquired about my state of origin, lga and date of birth which i furnished them with the information.

To the business of the day, a male panelist commented on the recruitment process and how they were iching for retirement inother to go rest as well as access thier pension, then he asked what did i think the recruitment process was all about? I responded succession planning. He was impressed then said he didn't need to ask me why i wanted to work with NNPC.

Next, the chairperson provided a scenario on the dumping on good in Africa by neocolonial super powers then asked me what i understood by globalisation? I defined it and gave an example of the use of social media which had made connect with peeps easier than in the days of letters. Then was a follow up questions on the advantages and disadvantages of globalisation. I provided a few before the Chairperson interrupted it was enough. Then, I was asked a situational based question on the impact of goods dumping on local manufacturing. I responded by giving example of how it affected local production negatively especially in Nigeria. A question was on a skill i would like to develop i.e tailoring and i responded cooking and they panel laughed and nicked named me 'Ofe Owerri'. Then a question on steps undertaken in decision making, i mentioned five, then the chairperson asked what steps i undertook in prioritizing i mentioned a few but she was still expecting me to mention something, I told them that was all i knew, she added availability of others then i thought why didnt i think of that? Then i realized i worked in the private sector, no one asked if you where available, they just dump things on your end. Well i noted the correction and the interview process.I was asked a situation where i had to use my decision making skills and i gave the instance of registering my business and they were okay with that. It was the other lady's turn to ask her question, then she asked me if i drive and i responded " not at the moment" she re emphasised do you drive or not then i responded i have never driven. She then asked me safety precautions i would take when being driven by another on a rainy day. I managed to mention four, then I said i would look at my mirror from time to time to ensure i wasn't being followed. Then all responsed on a rainy day? I stood my ground insisting people could get followed irrespective of the weather conditions ( diary of a Lagos boy). They were satisfied but then i added the no drinking or sustainance abuse.
Then the male panelist asked me for the word i used in concluding, i felt he didn't hear me right, I said "in a nutshell" but he heard "on", I didn't argue or claim right, noted it and thanked him( I am human, not perfect). Then i was given a chance to asked my question, I asked about the change management process in NNPC and it's impact so far which was addressed by the chairperson who provided insight on the process so far. Next, I asked on the impact of AI on the operations of NNPC? She also responded to this before one of the male panelist added some more information and informed me that if i had talked about it in my globalisation question, i did have received all the marks plus a standing ovation. Well what is done is done!

As a HR practitioner we believe it is wrong for an applicant to come for an interview without preparing a question on the organisation. It gives a bad impression on your candidancy or your intentions for joining the organization. But what do i know, I don't have public service experience! Interviews are all about Knowledge, skills, attitude and experience, please be guided! Recruitment would also be inline with organisations' values, it is formal, there is no absolute rule but moderation is key! Your panel is laughing, joking or playing with you, respond adequately but don't forget your professionalism, because everything about you is being assessed ie talk, act, sit, behave etc and the best way to get that information is to make you relax and unguarded but like I would say what do i know, no public service experience ! Las Las, we go dey alright! Pray for grace and favour.

I wish all GT and EH the very best! See you at the towers, God willing!

Also asked about clean development mechanisms. I was hearing it for the first time too.
I never wanted to stay mute or accept the fact that I was clueless, so I went straight to methods for pollution control, ways to remediate land pollutions n other forms of pollution as a result of oil spillage chipped in Bioremediation thinking that it will be important as a biochemist and other different ways of pollution control. I don't know whether the panel chairman really heard what I was saying because he was writing through out my interview session. He only pause for a while and ask if I am done, I was later asked 2 situational questions and 1 safety question which I answered more convincingly than the first question. They had interest in my fictitious but convincing story. Finally they told me if I had a question for them. I asked them how can they assess my interview performance. They all busted into laughter and the chairman for the first time had interest in what I was saying and said "okay I can say you are confident". I thanked them and left.

My sauce also mentioned this to me last night. The GGM HR was sent a memo to do justification to increase hirings ( this would delay APL release but better for all man). NNPC has the record of recruiting 15,000 in one exercise. This 5000 is possible as a large core of mid to top level hit retirement age over the next 2-3years. Make all of una dey pray say this sauce make am to the dinning table!

I have never had reason to comment here ever since I started following this thread but I feel a need to give it up for you, I love your confidence sir.

JahMan1:
Waow!
This thread is really friendly and humbling today with all the experiences being shared.
Let me humbly share mine.
Starting from the advertisement: Someone sent me the advert to share on a forum where I belong as an admin. He mentioned that those who successfully apply should send their reference number through me so he can check for shortlist. He asked me to also apply now - days after. I told him I never opened the site as I wasn't aware the vacancies cover my level/age. He encouraged me to check them. I checked and saw few management level vacancies in my area of specialization but was going to ignore it for being an entry level management cadre. He encouraged me to just apply for it and ignore. In the process of checking them closely I found out the requirement of 18 years minimum experience. Waow! That's serious post for them. Well I applied.
Another battle began when they invited me to write an aptitude test. How? For a management level job? No serious multinational will do that, I thought. Again my guy and my spouse encouraged me to just go and write the test. May I say here that I can't remember the last time I wrote an aptitude test. When I was the age of majority of you guys I was writing aptitude tests for fun and confident to be in top 5% in any one of such tests. But these days I am more concerned on leadership styles that can motivate my teams/unit to be actively engaged to deliver superior performance, and definitely fat bonuses for ourselves.
Well, I went for the test and it wasn't funny being disarmed of my phone and watch, and all. But I appreciated that thoroughness by NNPC. Was the test cheap? I can't say. I can't say I smashed it or that I banged it. The questions on history was somehow;
American civil war was about what?
Oil was first discovered in Nigeria which year?
Mobil started operation in Nigeria what year?
Economic Recovery Plan was which year?
And several other funny history questions.
Then the quantitative questions that should be my fortress wasn't really straightforward. Some of the questions were solved and I was sure the best option that I chose was wrong. ETC
Again it came as a surprise not just that I was invited for an interview, but at the speed they collated the test results.
I could have complained that the interview wasn't scheduled for Lagos or via skype, teleconference, etc, but I gave them some kudos that they at least scheduled it on a Saturday.
Well, the interview proper didn't look like the normal interview that I am used to at the multinational where I work. I have sat severally as a chairman in such interviews and I know how we drill prospective employees with practical questions they can hardly pass by reading up theories. And we take a whole day to interview at most 6 candidates for a job.
I was shocked to be grouped to see the same panel that interviewed a prospective senior officer, a supervisor, and possibly a GT in my area of specialization. Is that how they intend to employ a management staff by not bringing in the direct supervisor (senior management staff) in that area?
So I wasn't surprised with the questions they asked me.
1. First they asked me a question about a process in my functional area but not my specialized area. I gave a vivid description of the process and pointed out to them which specialized unit handle it in my place of work and where I come in in the process.
2. They asked about a second question that bothers about JV and periodic reviews. I answered that pointing out what I do currently at my current place of work and what I will possibly do at NNPC.
3. The chairman asked a question on how I will handle my specialized task within a subsidiary of NNPC. That was answered.
4. A question on conflict resolution with my boss - answered.
5. Two questions on safety - give an example of when I was involved in safety concern in the office and my reaction. Second was on what I should see when entering a building to show the seriousness of the organisation with safety.
6. Back to the chairman, who heaved a huge sigh. Made a comment like from xx(Name of my company)xx to NNPC. What do you know about PIB. Well I told him I followed the discussion for a very long time and I even downloaded the proposed act. But I have been told the version I have may not be the latest and it's been changed to PIGB. He asked me to mention the things in my version, and I listed like 4 key things and he seemed satisfied and then asked me to tell him the full meaning of PIB/PIGB, which I humbly did.
They thanked me and signaled the end of the interview and asked if I had any question. I was surprised - no drilling, no sweating. No wahala, I just asked a simple question after commending them on the speed of the recruitment exercise and left. It equally came as a pleasant surprise that I quickly got a 20k credit alert from them. That may be nothing but it's a good gesture, having paid twice for the ticket I used for the journey.
So it's either they give me the job, and I will check the pay my guys said will be better than what I earn currently, the kind of official car they give, other benefits, etc, and then make a choice. Or the way the interview went so quickly they decide not to give me the job. In that case I won't have to worry to make a tough decision to leave my present job and prospects.
Overall, I have prayed and whichever outcome is certainly what God wants for me and the future will prove that.
God bless you all.

What does EXEMPTED mean. Thats what is written in the narration box of the my T/fare. I checked.

Kudos guys for sharing your experiences. Personally, i enjoyed reading them but honestly, I got more pleasure from the theories and banter. D dynamism of d postulations please more than the monotony of the interview experiences.

Hence, I dug this up for deliberation given that he, was the initiator of the 1% theory.

In the context of the 1% theory, EXEMPTED perhaps means not subject to further scrutiny (chosen ones in Futures voice). With regard to the ABT, could mean not subject to further positive considerations.

If you read the propagator's preceding posts, you could sense the trepidation given the desperate inquisition and tone. I was surprised when he came up with the 1% theory the next day but who am I to doubt his source.

Personally, the only thing I know about the TF and APL is that TF shows one atrended the interview. There may be or may not be further links but I seriously question the integrity of the 1% theory while not accepting the ABT. Given the rate and method of payment, i think TF would continue to trickle in even after APLs have been given.

Please guys say what you think. I love banter. I don't know about you. Beeam, flowwolf09, bobowaja, teaser4, chaste guy, benflash, enireqx, sibabe, jiang, et al... deliver homies!
