My Heart Felt Message To GRADUATES Teaching In Private Primary/secondary Schoo by SirWhiteFish: 8:59am On Jul 28, 2019
I looked back at the beginning of this year, precisely 14th January 2019 when I started working at a private primary school. Three weeks later, I was told that I had to be taking two primary five students extra lessons after closing (3pm), and the pay was 1k each. With my monthly salary which was 13,000 added to the "1k" each makes 15 thousand.

You would think I earned 13k for three months abi! No I didn't. The first salary I got was the half of 13k. The woman just called the staff on the 28th of January and gave me 6.5k. I had no idea what was going on and I thought she was going to balance up at the beginning of February just like she said while addressing us but it was a lie. it was at the end of the term, the third month April, that I got to know I am being ripped off. She said she was going to pay 5000 naira at the end of the term as salary because school opened for just 10 days. It was the greatest shock of my life. A graduate, a grown up man like me, taking 5000 naira home!!
I wanted to leave but I couldn't because I wouldn't be paid for the common entrance lesson and I had not gotten any other opportunities elsewhere.

Sometimes in early February, She called me that I would be handling primary 5 Common entrance lessons which is meant to hold every Saturday and at the end of the third term the money will be shared between Me, a staff that partners me and the proprietress. She said the money will be shared 60%(I and another man) to 40%(the proprietress). The formula was very unfair and strange to me. The sharing formula seemed very strange to me and I challenged it but she enforced it.

Fast forward to early this month, precisely 3rd of July, the proprietress started acting strange and insulting all the workers and all that. The following week she sent one of the oldest staff by to inquire what will be the staff reaction if they are not paid at the end if the term. The staff said they won't agree to such and some even threaten various actions. Fast forward to Thursday 25th of July, vacation day. the woman started up a plethora of complaints deliberately she said she was going to pay 4000 as July salary. The same thing she did at the end of second term. At the end she ended up not paying a dime. She didn't pay any of us. Not even the common entrance lesson which made me stay.

I cried and stayed inside throughout Friday. I had a deep thinking, with my academic background! Was it that I didn't know my worth? with all my struggles to be successful academically I am now slaving in one private school for a paltry sum of 15k, money wey I no fit cope with as an undergraduate! Money wey be say no reach my NYSC allawe!
I really feel for graduates going through phases like this. I really feel for graduates teaching at private schools. I pray better days finds you and I soon.

The longer you stay, the harder it would be to get out. Start searching for business ideas/skills. They abound on NL. Your time is precious, don't waste it in the education sector.

Sorry dear, private lessons seems better than this . Meet up parents and offer affordable home lessons for their kids, then your spare time can be used to get a skill.

Has anyone noticed this?
Female school owners aka proprietress are very mean and wicked. Not generalizing though
I thought these women should be caring towards their fellow humans but they're even worse than their Male folks.
Well op should look for a skill to learn
I better do menial jobs that pays above 40k a month than to be a slave under someone cos I'm a graduate.
OP get your hands dirty and save a little money to start something.
God keep you bro

THIS IS Nigeria for you..... But frankly speaking, it depends on the personality of the woman. I have once worked with an ibo woman who owns a school. She pays frequently as at when due. But frankly speaking teaching work nor be work my brother. It's just because of the situation of the country that graduates are going into teaching. My little piece of advice if you have a skill, join it with your teaching job... 15k a month for this 2019, no oh..

It not too late to start something. U can still learn a skill, not necessarily vocational skill, cause that what most people think when they hear of "skill". Only that u are going to spend little money and much of ur time.
U can go into;
Web design
Web Development
Mobile Apps Development
Graphics Design.

Man did not reveal this to you, heaven did. The husband is a Pastor and she is a DEACONESS. Her husband always close his eyes to what she is doing and Infact supports her by quoting various Bible passages.

I hardly take my time to read much online but I read and really felt pity for you... I remember how much I spent weekly as an undergraduate...
Is there no educational body such schools can be reported to?
These are one of the few jobs that can ruin a man's life emotionally and physically

This is the reason why I chose to work for a man in our church, he is a minister but alas, the story is thesame thing just a little bit different from yours.

But I am done now, he's with my last month's salary, but he is gonna pay. No doubt!

Private school get class.

Just a select few get into the high class private schools. The rest are stuck in those neighbourhood schools that do not even have complete registration to run a corporate account...

I taught in one way back. It is usually the first resort for the average job-seeking graduate. I remember the pay was a little above 10k. They handed me a staffbook. It contained so many DON'Ts and each attracted a fine. Somehow, 95% of the DONTs looked like what you must DO (inadvertently).

To worsen it sef, the principal been dey send me to buy him chilled Pepsi. If e no cold well, e go send me back to change am.

Abeg, I pray for every Nigerian graduate looking for a job or source of livelihood. One day e go better.

I ran away fŕom teaching job very very long ago. A job that pays nothing but takes everything away from you.

You cannot dress anyhow to school but at the end of several months, you do not earn what is enough to replace your tattered clothes and worn-out shoes.

I may chose to go to my current place of work in bathroom slippers, nobody challenges me. Yet I earn monthly pay of around 6 figures.

Better to do 'alabaru' at Oyingbo than all these nonsense private school teaching jobs
