It's a very horrible situation to be in, especially when there is that societal pressure hanging on one's shoulder. Horrible is an understatement infact lol. I am the shy type and hate to bother people for anything but I have amazed myself by some of the people I've spoken to,called, emailed, begged stylishly( so humiliating! lol), some of them are complete strangers. Again lesson learnt/being learned.

When you have no 'connection' in Nigeria, you are an orphan of a kind.

Sadly, it shouldn't be like that.

If you wont say am saying rubbish, the best for you is to quit honourably and find a business worth donig and if there is no capital to start a business I dont know your age but if you set a target of 3 months you can learn a skill and be the boss of yourself, depending on how smart you are. Let me use my personal story as an example, after graduating search for jobs no show, I got a secondary school in shagamu, ogun state where am been paid #10.000 with extra lesson fee, sometimes half payment imagine, so i thought i cannot continue like this cos there is no way such will accumulate to rent house and people that are suppose to help you carry the tag He's working, long story short I collected last salary register in a saloon as apprentice for 3months but within 2 months am confident of myself, I started taxing family and friends for money to set up. I was able to raise small money got a shop lo and behold as I got the shop, scale of preference set in, nobody selling gas in the street, i did feasibility study on cooking gas and realize its best in the location than barbing. I had no idea abt it and I already had a shop thats how I paused for 2 weeks to know more about gas before I conclude I found the Gas to be better. Thats how i started my life with a gas retail shop and after like a year i was able to gather money to setup my barbing saloon elsewhere which I really had passion for. So in a nutshell if you are afraid if you quit you will not have anything doing rethink cos despite not quitting you are not gaining anything. Make a plan and step up on it to make it work. Dont ever think you are too old to learn a skill cos you are a graduate. Now I have someone working for me collecting more than salary I was receiving when I was teaching in a private school and am afraid to quit cos of fear. Take a bold step and work towards it.

Quit the job before it quits you. It's a distraction.

Sometimes the new would only come when you get rid of the old. And then, believe something new is on the way.

Again, quit and start a job search. God will cause his face to shine on you by giving you a better opportunity.

All the best.

Sorry bro.... Let me ask u a question based on this ur advice to this sufferingyyoung man Aby woman.

Do u think this 11k is feeding and transporting him in a month? If am not wrong, There are 30/31days in a month and this is an adult here. So assuming he suffers to live on 1k per day, hw about the remaining 19/20 days of the month ..

Again, at what time will he/she apply to the microfinance bank? In the night? Or weekends?

Did u hear the part that he said from 2018 to date he has no savings?? Don't u think he is begging already even as an assumed working class?? What makes u think he won't be a better begger with very high chance of getting support when he begs as a known unemployed person than having to beg as a working class, u will u dash him money as a working class?, because am sure that whatever way he is running the remaining days of the month is not far from begging even as a working class...

Please brother, don't give anyone this type of advice...

That suffer of a job is the hindrance to his progress bro. Quote me.

So it's better he quits this night and stays at home and if at the end of 30 days no job yet he eats poo? Are you OK? Applying for job is done with email messages. You scout online and publications in newspapers for vacancies and you send applications and resume. When they call you for interview you just blow one lie to oga and get a permission then you attend your interview. Once they call you to come pick appointment letter then you quit your present job after the letter is in your hand. Employers find it easy to take on somebody that has a job already over a jobless fellow because they will always ask "where are you working presently" they will confirm your answer here before confirming your appointment after about 6 months of working with them and if u lie, you're fired. I'm sure you don't know these things and that's why I'm educated but if this person does otherwise like quit today that's Friday, I bet you he won't get any job till next 30 days which means that 11k won't come and it's hell in a cell.

To do well in the Nigerian job market, you need experience. Any job you can do that will add to your experience, needed experience, do it. Coupled with a Master's or some form of post graduate training will be added amunition to excel in the job market.

After a maximum period of 5 years gaining experience, white collar jobs with good pay should be within your reach.,

The problem is that most graduates want the best paying jobs once they graduate. It's not so for most but if you can work towards gaining that experience, thing can improve vastly for you.

Be ready to make that 5 years maximum sacrifice.

Those asking him to quit, do you have something else for him to do? I will advise you continue to pressurise for pay increment as you become more dedicated. Convince them reasons you deserve a pay increment, that you will use spare times to acquire more skills relevant to the efficiency of your job, it would build your confidence level, make you more dedicated and resillient and take care of your dependants that look up to you. Moreso, remind them that the minimum wage is now 30k which is more humane and advised by all employers to adopt. Keep pushing subtly and nicely with some emotional countenance. Don't be arrogant about it. If he is still going on without pay increase, acquire all that you need to know about a PA's job, build your CV in that line to be attractive and to portray your acquired skills over the years, submit while on the job and go to a better company with a better pay when the job is offered to you. Goodluck.

OK, I'll ask u again. Comparatively, what do u think this 11k is doing in the life of this guy looking at the prevailing circumstances..as a reason to stay cos I came make from u that's the reason he should stay...

If I may ask, why is ur view only about job hunting from there... More so a white collar job, Like that of a microfinance bank or what ever salary job with no bergaining strength say maybe a skill with which he can provide a salable service...

Why r u not seeing the bigger picture..

Well is ur opinion, but I don't think is good enough for that guy. Please don't push it. That guy deserves better than ur advice.

THIS IS WHERE I GET ANGRY WITH TODAY'S GRADUATES. WHY DID YOU GO TO SCHOOL IN THE FIRST PLACE IF YOU CANT APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE YOU BOUGHT (THAT IS IF THEY HAVE ANY) WITH YOUR MONEY FROM THE TERTIARY INSTITUTION TO SOLVE LIFE'S PROBLEMS?

YOU GO TO SCHOOL JUST TO GET JOBS?

I ONCE TOLD A GRADUATE TO GO AND ORGANISE THE COMMUNITY YOUTHS AND REFORM THE REVENUE COLLECTION UNIT. BEFORE NOW, THAT UNIT WAS BASICALLY FOR THUGS AND THEY HARASS AND INTIMIDATE PEOPLE JUST TO EXTORT FROM THEM. THOUGH THEY REMIT THE ALLOCATED AMOUNT TO THE LGA BUT THEIR MODUS OPERANDI WAS NOTHING COMPARED TO WHAT IS HAPPENING IN OTHER PART OF THE WORLD. THIS GRADUATE DECLINED AND CONTINUED HIS JOB HUNTING. I GAVE THAT SAME IDEA TO SOMEONE (ANOTHER GRADUATE) AND TODAY HE IS MARRIED, HAVE KIDS AND WAS BUILDING HIS OWN HOME WHEN I SAW HIM LAST. THE OTHER ONE IS STILL JOB HUNTING.

DO YOU KNOW THAT IN THAT COMMUNITY THEY OFFER ELECTRONIC RECEIPTS FOR DEVELOPMENT LEVIES AND REVENUE?

THEY CAN PAY FROM THE COMFORT OF THEIR HOMES?

ALL THESE FROM AN INNOVATIVE MIND WHO DIDN'T LOOK DOWN ON MY IDEA.

THIS ALSO CREATED INDIRECT JOBS AS NEW CYBER CAFES SPRUNG UP IN THE COMMUNITY.

SOMETIMES THE LGA'S ALLOCATE JUST 500,000 NAIRA TO A CERTAIN COMMUNITY. BUT THIS GUYS MAKE X10 OF THAT AMOUNT IN A MONTH. IF NOT FOR THEIR THUGGERY AND ILLITERACY, THEY WOULD BE MILLIONAIRES. SAME THING APPLIES TO COMMERCIAL DRIVERS TOO.

BACK TO YOU MY 11K SALARY SON.

ITS TIME TO QUIT THAT JOB OR ELSE I RECALL YOU. angry angry angry

IF YOU HAVE NO IDEA, THEN RELOCATE TO ABUJA AND GET A CAR FOR UBER/TAXIFY.

You can even start with zero balance. All you need do is to be sure the person you are supplying to is going to pay you as you drop it.

The day I started 5k was my last card and I needed about 27k to buy the sand and pay the driver his motor balance(truck fare). I was not discouraged. I went to the sand dump, the first driver I met and explained to was so kind and used his money to complete buying of the sand, and when the owner paid me, i balanced him. And the minimum gain u can make is 5k per trip, u can even make close to 17k per trip wen u add dagbo and when u jam a novice.

Great. Help a brother. I'd like to do this sir. How best can I reach you? I have my WhatsApp number on my signature just incase please

11k in a bank. Ah ah!
Op did you make this up?

If true that manager is very wicked. They cannot even match minimum wage of 18k.

If you can use that position to gain valuable experience and network aggressively and move on, stay on a bit longer.

If you know you cannot gain anything tangible from it, use the little exposure you have got so far to re-strategise.

If you are really fed up with it, play your last card. Give a deadline beyond which you cannot continue on the job. Unless offered something else or better pay. Explain why politely.

If you're fired, you know you have no regret. If you succeed, even better.

Sadly legions are lining up to take that job when you leave. Just to escape boredom and nagging parent at home.
