So why create a breach by letting participants of the scheme tamper with the uniform? I repeat, that lady would make a very bad employee, as she cannot follow simple rules and she is trying to tamper with the rule and bend it to suit her selfish desires.

Wearing skirts do not render pants “unreasonable” nor vice versa.

Wearing a uniform does not mean that everyone must dress identically, but rather uniformly, as can be seen in the picture of military uniforms that I previously posted (in other words, it merely requires uniformity in respect of all persons wearing the same attire). Accordingly, the NYSC can regulate the sort of skirts that a corper should - just as corpers are not permitted to wear just any kind of pants. Nigerians have to learn to think outside-the-box in an increasingly diverse society. The era of being mindlessly Zombies should have been confined to our past.

If rules were bent to suit the whims and fancy of each participant, what would be the result? Chaos. Rules are made to enforce order, maintain discipline, and achieve certain outcomes.

Asking for rules to be bent so that you can wear a skirt, instead of the approved khaki pair of trousers, is nothing short of frivolous.

If there were health grounds to justify such a request, then it might make a bit of sense. But trying to bend the rules out of a misguided sense of religiosity, is the height of indiscipline. There is nothing rational about her act of indiscipline. It doesn't matter if she is born again, born before or born afterwards.

Nobody gave her approval to wear a skirt. There is even no indication that she had sought for permission beforehand from the authorities to do so. She chose to discard the approved uniform, and invent her own outfit. What is that called, if not breaking the rules?

Let her live with the consequences of her actions.

Furthermore, you are focusing SOLELY on this one case rather than the concept that being discussed (which admittedly would encompass this one particular case but stretches well beyond it), but there used to be rules and regulations for where people could serve (or more precisely not serve) in the NYSC until it was changed to ACCOMMODATE reasonable matrimonial and other familial realities. For the umpteenth time, these rules and regulations are not bequeathed by Omnipotence but are made by civil/public servants and thus could be reasonably changed to accommodate reasonable realities.

What you have CONSISTENTLY failed to explain is exactly how changing the rules to accommodate skirts (that would be regulated in exactly the same manners as pants currently are) would INFRINGE on other corpers - except to keep repeating that it would be “different” as if difference is inherently a bad thing. SMH

NYSC had not changed the uniform or altered it, to accommodate skirts as there is no need to do so.

I asked you earlier, is there anything she can do wearing g a skirt that she cannot do while wearing trousers? You have not provided a coherent answer.

Instead, you continue whining about reasonable requests, and drawing untenable comparisons.

Why you are now advocating for an item of dressing to be changed is rather frivolous. It is not about being a zombie. It is about the purpose for which the uniform was designed.

If she had to do man-o'-war exercises during orientation camp, by climbing the ropes and jumping under the poles, would she be able to do so wearing a skirt? Not likely. Those under the rope bridge would see her undies, in all its colourful glory.

And in order to avoid such a situation, I bet she would try to avoid taking part in such exercises. Another contravention of the rules.

Even during physical exercises in secondary schools, you still find girls who wear skirts for PE making sure they wear shorts or leggings under such skirts to avoid indecent exposure.

So why bother with the skirts on the 1st place?

Wearing a pair of trousers is not a health hazard, that can be minimised or mitigated by wearing a skirt.

Secondly, the lady's defiant attitude in altering the uniform without seeking permission, portrays her as an indisciplined person.

If you like, keep ranting from today till tomorrow, NYSC uniform is not going to change. The khaki trouser will not give way automatically to a skirt, to please the idiosyncratic whims and religious fancies, of some faceless females.

If they don't like the NYSC uniform, it is not by force for them to serve. Let them boycott the scheme.

When women are undergoing recruitment exercises, drills or even carrying out physical training in the armed forces, they do not wear skirts.

They are also expected to be wearing shorts or trousers on the field, carrying out physical fitness exercises.

The pictures you posted are dress uniforms for foreign armed forces, which are worn on social occasions, during parades, patrols, in the officers mess, or during desk duties.

Combatant uniform does not permit skirts for women.

There are specific rules and periods, which dictate when such skirts can be worn.

You are trying to make it seem as if skirts are accepted in all events, as part of armed forces uniform.

It is not. It is restricted to specific events, certain cadres and specific duties.

The NYSC unlike the armed forces does not have a cadet corps, or an officers corp. Every participant is the same.

Which is why all participant dress alike in the same uniform.

And till now, there is no reason to change the khaki trousers worn by the corp members into a skirt.

All your long epistles will not alter this fact.
