This is no scam.
It's purely leveraging on BVN database which I think all banks have access to. Your BVN record contains your Names, phone number, Bank accounts, and Picture. The only thing that may be wrong was creating bank accounts without the knowledge of the person and as an IT guy, I know your account can be created on request via the USSD code.
They were just trying to be "Technologically" Smart and proactive such that with the use of a USSD code, you can have an account created without stepping into the halls of the bank.
But I did not dial any USSD Code.
That's the point.

This is unacceptable. Well Fargo bank in USA did something similar by opening unsolicited additional accounts for their existing customers. Case was taken up by the Regulators and they were fined heavily. It is not just right

If the N450 charge was true, I'd say you didn't do enough to have it refunded. You can report them to the CBN, if you think you did enough to try and get your money back. Cost per SMS is N4, does it mean they sent you more that 100 SMSes in one month? No bank dare try that with me.

As for those whom accounts were opened for without requesting, simply contact the bank to close those accounts, report to the CBN or sue it! It's simple, isn't it? Many Nigerians fail to take action when they need to, preferring to just make noise to themselves. This is one of the reasons evil seems to be on the rise in the country.

But it's surprising to see some complaints about GTB, though. I opened my first bank account with this bank and the experience - overall - has been the best, compared to the others I have (had) accounts with.
Thanks for the bolded parts.
1. I contacted the bank, they have not closed the account yet, and from their responses, I don't think they intend to close it anytime soon..... Contacting CBN would be my next option.
2. My coming online is not really for noise making. But for wider views, so I can know what next move to make.

@Bolded..
Even if it is not a security breach, it is a Privacy Breach..
I should choose the institutions I bank or do transactions with.
I never signed any third-party agreement when I enrolled for BVN,, did I.??
Ooh, and if they got my data through my BVN, why then are they telling me to submit my BVN again since they already have it?
..
I don't believe they got my data through BVN.

I have told you where they got your data from and you are still arguing.

The security breach is italised for a reason.

- Your account can't be closed by verbal instruction. It must be written.

- What they actually need is your picture and signature (maybe ID card). They have your BVN. Every bank can access your BVN details.

- You can direct your grievances to the nearest GTBank to you... or CBN smiley

I did.
I went to the bank.. And I met with their customer care..
And yes, they accepted that they opened the account for me in my name, and intended it to be my account, and for me to use it as my account.
But then, they couldn't explain how they got my number and my name. They also couldn't explain why they opened the account, and what purpose the account should serve me.
They were just busy trying to preach to me so that I can accept the account.. That's All

Please call the customer care line or chat them if possible for a more genuine reason and why you are being sent the account details...

You know not everyone is knowledgeable about the bank enormous products ..

You'll definitely be provided with a more robust explanation.

The bank am sure know it limitations and rules guiding its operations... Peace

It has to be that easy, you can close an Account anytime you feel like it, especcially the account imposed on you by a bank, the cannot force you into Operating an account you didn't open. what if you have no money to run this account? or what if you leave the country? come on!

Only very very few gullible senseless Yorubas that follows anything Igbos say to make them destroy Yoruba success. What hurts Igbos most in this life is to see Yorubas shine. With perfect hatred, they hate to see Yorubas shine. They are subconsciously green with incurable envy of Yorubas, so, they tell other tribes very slanderous derogatory things about the Yorubas They never say a single good thing about Yorubas even though they are far more evil, less intelligent and greedy than the Yorubas. Igbos should naturally accept that God created Yorubas to be superior to them. They should just bow to us so that Nigeria can move forward. Igbos are the most selfish shallow-minded sad Souls on Earth. Igbos still don't realize that Yorubas are not ordinary beings.

Intelligent Yorubas have now understand why Igbos are forever pained. The pathological hatred that Igbos have towards Yorubas is unconsciously because Yorubas have naturally first achieved and still achieving every Greatness that Igbos hope to achieve in this Life: they stigmatized and spread lies that Yorubas are cowards, yet we gallantly won the 1635 Oshogo War against the Fulanis (something that Igbos can never achieve). They said we are not strong to fight yet we've produced the likes of Anthony Joshua the Strongest Man in the World for a while now, something no Igbo has ever and shall never achieve. Imagine if Olufemi was Igbo, we won't have rest from their shout of "Igbo Amaka" since all his winnings. Igbos started businesses hoping to produce the richest man and woman, yet non of them is as rich as Adenuga or Alakija. They started Churches, yet non of theirs could ever be as Great as that of Oyedepo or Adeboye. Igbos tried to top the Education sector and had to abandon that dream because Yorubas are the ones intelligent enough not only to lead that but lecture as numerous Professors in USA Universities and all over Europe Universities. Nigerian Ecommerce Crown belongs to Sola Akinlade of PayStack, Biggest Nigerian Forum owned by my Guy grin the great Yoruba son of Oshewa. Igbos started Arochukwu Cult, yet non of them could ever be as International as Ogboni. I don't know a single Yoruba man that belong to Arochukwu, but Igbos have no option than to bow to Yoruba superiority as many of them have joined Yoruba Ogboni Fraternity. We Yorubas are simply the most superior beings on Earth. They should stop fighting the natural truth. When they accept us as their superior, Africa would then naturally rule the World. It is the birth right of Africa to rule the World. God made it so. THERE IS A MYSTERY BEHIND YORUBAS THAT NON CAN UNRAVEL.

Igbos are the worst satanic ingrates in the World, they are never grateful for accommodating or showing them love. Yorubas should know that the only way they'll get their well deserved respect from Igbos is not by showing them love, but by treating them like Northerners do. The more you show Igbos love the more they'll disrespect and hate you. The only language they understand is to kill them and treat them without iota of mercy. Unlike HausaFulani that regularly slaughter them like chickens, we Yorubas accommodate them on our Lands as brothers but they are always enviously plotting evil against us and spreading slanderous derogatory lies about us.
Some intelligent NLander Yoruba guys and I were discussing Igbo/Yoruba observed stuffs and we came to one conclusion that some igbos were applying 48 Laws Power rules to brainwash gullible Yorubas here. Last year, they started derogatorily calling and generalizing all Yorubas as Afonjas when we were known as Awoists since my earliest times on NairaLand. They know you soon take on the Character of the name you accept. Before this igbos started this nonsense, we on NL know ourselves as Awoists portraying the great Awolowo values. Just like the igbos planned and hoped, now some gullible easily brainwashed Yorubas go like "we Afonjas are the best" Everybodys know that Awolowo died of natural cardiac ailment at the ripe old age of 78 years old(how many of those spreading the lie against him would even reach 70) till few year ago when this satanic Igbos invented suicude lie and started spreading the slanderous derogatory lie to posthumously strip him of well-deserved glory. Any igbo that calls we Yorubas afonja again instead of Awoists shall soon die a painful death!

Next time you see a Yoruba, duff your hat and bow!

If you quote me again, an uncontrollably bad runny stomach would catch you in church, I for say at work, but u seem like an unemployable individual, so let's leave it to Church grin

You still have the effrontery to talk to me instead of apologizing for your evil deeds and that of your satanic ancestors?! I thought you would have repented and change from the evil ways of your fathers. Just like your Igbos fathers brainwashed senseless gullible Yorubas and Hausa/Fulanis to kill their very own political Leader in coup that you promised to make Nigeria free, you are pretending to be fighting for sensitization of the banking system by destroying GTB, whereas all that you are doing is slaughtering GTB to make way for Igbos Bank(s) to become the No 1 in Nigeria. Satanic possessed evil greedy Igbos are never contented in Life, never. Always sad at Yorubas topping anything, while Yorubas gladly celebrate their. Henceforth, we shall not only pay you back in your evil coin but in 7 fold! Sad souls called igbos are just too senselessly greedy! What Nigeria is experiencing today would not have happened if not that you people changed the peaceful course of Nigerian History by your wicked heartless GREED, Igbos shed innocent blood Nationally just to hijack Nigeria's resources, wealth and political power. Such was never known till you satanic souls called Igbos introduced it into our once innocent and peaceful Country on January 29, 1966. You infected Fulanis with your pathological greed and introduced satanic blood shed into Nigerian politics because of you people's Hell-bound satanic souls. Not even Fulanis or Hausa was heartless enough to conceived let alone carry out the very first political blood-letting in Nigeria. Despite the fact that Igbo Azikwe was the President, and that Igbos head almost 68% of all Federal Ministries and Federal Control apparatuses during the era, stiil did not satisfy you! Satanic possessed evil greedy Igbos were still not contented. You satanic greedy sad souls still want to own the whole Nigeria and his people in your pocket. This led your evil fathers in the Nigerian Military; Izeagu, Ifeajuna, etc to deceive other Nigerian officers to kill leaders from other tribes so that Igbos can enthrone Aguyi Ironsi and fully pocket the whole Nigeria. What a greedy satanic set of pathologically greedy animals in human skin called Igbos. Nothing satisfies Igbo unless terrible excruciatingly painful catastrophic death! You taught Fulanis this evil killings happening today, you showed Nigerians that killings could be used to intimidate other tribes and enslave them. It's unfortunate that we Yorubas are paying for your satanic ways that you infected Fulanis with because of you demonic GREED!!! People should stop blaming Fulanis, it was Igbos that sowed the evil seed and taught Fulanis this heartlessness. Yet, Igbos have not apologized to we Yorunbas! The problem of blood shed we are facing today was started by Igbos. Unless you igbos apologize to Yorubas, we shall ensure that you and your unborn generations are wiped out permanently. It is not a threat; it's a Promise! All Igbos shall never die well! Terrible terrible deaths to all Igbos wherever they are! ASHE!!!

It's obviously very true that you Igbos have hidden agreement and evil plans to destroy anything great achieved by Yorubas and replace it with your own. I pity the gullible Yorubas have been played like pingpongs by you for ages.

You know, I never liked GTB for anything.
And that was why I never had anything to do with them all the while., and I still don't want to have anything to do with them.
Thus, now they have my details against my wish, I am beginning to get worried who else that might have information about me, and what they might be doing with it.
You may see it as very Simple, but I see it as potential danger.
